  • How to make a spinning barber pole prop. Here's a close behind the scenes look at the way we went about creating this fun spinning prop for our Halloween old western spooky mining ghost town this year for October called Grave Rock Gulch. The barber pole prop will attach to the first level of our new haunted barber shop and dentist halloween facade false front wall that will live in the front yard of our home haunt. It's designed to spin if the trick or treaters choose to touch it but we may make it into an animated motorized moving prop later if we have time. Its constructed of painted, aged, and sanded wood and we used old modified caster brackets to mount the pole to the wall. We created the paint strips by measuring and using 2" masking tape. It was a fun detail to add that should get a few interested peoples attention so you may sneak up behind them for a quick scare. The prop is perfect for a film or independent movie set or for decorating your salon or barber shop.

Cutting a caster bracket in half is a great idea why didn't I think of that!! I had several I'm not going to use laying around and if I cut them in half I would have had to grind off all the sharp edges anyways so no one cut themselves, its one of several ways to do it. I think the pole outside was representing the pole used inside for holding if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for watching and the comment. =)

Ok ?? Is there a reason you didn't split a single caster in half and saved the time of grinding the weld ?? looks great. I never heard the part of using the pole to hold onto but have heard the bloody rags that were hung outside would twist in the wind ......

you should add a blue stripe as well so your barber not only did bloodletting (red stripe) but also performed surgery (blue stripe) extra creepy

emmmmm....actually they would hang the bloody red and white bandages outside the shop to dry and the wind would make the bandages spiral thus giving you the spinning Barber pole effect you see today...
