  • See how a home freeze dryer works. Have you wondered how to freeze dry at home? It's easy. Learn more.
    Fresh or cooked foods are placed in the freeze dryer where they are frozen to -40 degrees Fahrenheit or colder.
    Once the food is frozen, the freeze dryer creates a powerful vacuum around the food. Then, as the food is slightly warmed, the ice transitions into vapor and evaporates.
    The freeze-dried food is then sealed in moisture and oxygen-proof packaging (Mylar bags, mason jars, or cans) along with an oxygen absorber to ensure freshness until opened.
    When water is added to the food it regains its original fresh flavor, aroma, and appearance.
    People love the taste of freeze-dried food. It's a great way to build up a food storage that can help you prepare for the future. If interested in learning more about freeze driers please visit harvestright.com/

    Can you seal the freeze dried food in canning jars and use the Food Saver Jar Sealer to get the oxygen out?

    • @harvestright
      @harvestright  6 лет назад +4

      You can vacuum seal jars, without an oxygen absorber, for short-term storage, but, we suggest adding an oxygen absorber to every jar for long-term storage. And, store them out of the light, in a dark, cool location (pantry, basement, etc.).

    Lol, so ridiculous to argue that it is economical to buy produce when it is in a cheaper season and freeze-dry it. The savings from doing that will never cover the cost of the machine itself and the electricity it consumes.

      The value of freeze dried food is over 3x that of none freeze dried and a fraction of the weight (with a 25 year shelf life)
      If you knew how much the average person wastes in food every year, this machine (a couple grand) could pay for itself rather quickly, plus.. in these times having the ability to so easily store food for the future is rather priceless.
      With the ability to professionally label your mylar bags, you could make a living off of this (and many companies do) and they are very successful.
