Not all of the Lekgolo were loyal to the Arbiter's faction, some of them still stayed with the Prophet of Truth, with other Sangheili factions that splintered off, etc. It was moreso that a Hunter pair most likely continued following the orders of whoever their immediate commanding officers was at any given time, in most cases. Or you could have cases like the level Uprising, where they feel more sympathetic to the plight of the Sangheili at that moment. It just depends, really.
Fun fact, the Goliaths from halo wars 2 are in fact hunters the only difference is that they don’t have a arm cannon and a shield because they’re anti-building infantry

I thought it was kinda obvious that Goliaths were Hunters… given that they’re a unique unit only usable by the Colony. I think the more fun fact that lots of people still don’t know is that Scarabs are technically Hunters, though they’re operated by one whole colony rather than two halves like a pair of Hunters would be. Lekgolo are probably the most important aliens within the Covenants war machine.
Lets not forget Lek'golo are used to pilot vehicles like the Scarab and possibly other large vehicles like the Locust and Lich, there are factories that pour hunter worms into the frame of a scarab to pilot the walking fortress with the help of the Covenant onboard.
The only reason the hunters sided with the elites is because of the fact that the elites had a lot of honour in battle and the hunters respected them. One of the reasons they chose to join the covenant was because they had access to interstellar space travel as a result too.
The more I learn about the covenant the more I realize just how terrifying Chief was, being able to take out hundreds of these things with what the covenant considered primitive armor(the mark V)
A single Lekgolo is still mildly intelligent. An example of this would be when a shard of Mendicant Bias was still on the Anodyne Spirit and he tried to launch the Dreadnought from High Charity, only for a Lekgolo worm that was *luckily* inside to disable the ship and keep that shard of Mendicant Bias on High Charity.

If you ever played Halo Wars 2 there’s a Hunter commander you can play as called The Colony, they have another unique configuration of Lekgolo called a “Goliath” it’s a hulking mass of Lekgolo and its meant to destroy buildings and vehicles. The Colony also has a special hero unit which is a super Hunter, it’s bigger and solo and equipped with better weapons. And finally there are “Skitterers” I believe they’re called, very tiny configurations of Lekgolo worms that can attach to other units and buff them up through symbiosis. The Colony can also just use a leader power that infuses Lekgolo with any selected units to empower them.
I read up on Hunter's in the Halo Waypoint and it said that usually there's 4000 worms in a Lek'Golo colony, and 2000 per Hunter. I can't remember if it was in Legends or one of the books, however, but on the Lek'Golo home world the Covenant ran into a colony of almost 20,000 worms that formed itself into a singular massive beast. That's what originally caused the Covenant to adopt the Hunters, their sheer adaptability.

That is hilariously incorrect. When the Covenant found the Lekgolo on the planet of Te, they soon found out that the rings around the planet used to be a forerunner orbital that the Lekgolo ate. Seeing this as heresy, the Covenant declared war. They DID NOT glass them as doing so would risk damaging the "relics" the Covenant wanted to collect so instead, they tried a ground campaign that would be less than successful. Because of this, the Arbiter at the time suggested taming them, claiming that they could be put to better use as a part of the Covenant and eventually, it was done. There was no glassing of the Lekgolo.
Remember. Hunters aren't only weak in the back. Most exposed body is a viable target. Typically I go for the knees from the front, the neck from the side with a sniper, or if course the back.
I love the Hunter design in Infinite, I also love how they deflect direct grenades, as in the past, loading a Hunter with as many sticky grenades as possible was the most effective method to kill them. I also like the enrage mechanic that I believe was introduced in Infinite (could’ve been H5, I only played it once so I don’t remember anything)
And lekgolo are also in control of scarabs (you can see them when destroying the core in halo 2 and 3), which means scarabs are technically another type of hunter
Funny thing is, I recently studied these guys, I’m still trying to think on why they would need to adapt like that, but they are extraordinary creatures, and they are immune to the Flood

Fun fact, 2401 Penitent Tangent, an AI like 343 Guilty Spark, was about to blow up the High Charity by launching their sweet captured forerunner dreadnought out of sequence, but a lekgolo worm munching its way through the ship happened to eat the cables carrying the firing signal just as he attempted to initiate the plot.

They help the Elites during the schism mostly out of remorse since they were close allies, the Elites treated them with respect and taught them many things while in the Covenant.

ive always wanted to see the Lekgolo be expanded upon as well as the San’Shyuum. We have seen art of the supposed Shyuum warrior caste, specifically San’Shyuum that were not prophets, but who were erroneously reported as ‘female elites’. They would, or could, have made a great enemy type. A balanced unit with formidable skill and weaponry that sits somewhere between the H3 Brutes, H2 Elites, and the jackals. Unfortunately the timeline continues to progress into increasingly ludicrous territory and stories. Hunters on the other hand have i think almost unlimited potential. A colony could form into a squad of smaller creatures, or a single mega-hunter, we also see, in lore i believe, that they seemingly are a part of what makes up scarabs. Meaning they can congregate into larger forms. Hunters also (and we have actually seen this in recent titles, 5 i believe) ought to have access to a wider range of weaponry. Boarding hunters like vehicles and performing multi step assassinations seems like a no-brainer gameplay wise. Flood hunters have never been shown and i think dismissed as possible by the lore (which would make them literally the perfect biological foe to the flood) However i think it would be better to be retconned as simply unlikely, but made possible. that is should we see flood in game again. San’Shyuum infantry could be very interesting. perhaps utilizing the floating tech in prophet thrones as a means to move unpredictably, idk, their weaponry could be more unique and incorporate more forerunner tech. They could have strong shields but be weak underneath. Some could wear powered armor. I think they could have filled the gap left by elites in Halo 3 at the very least. Elites imo should have been present in 3 (and especially ODST) as enemies, with only the forces present during the schism joining with humanity. They ended up making the timeframe seem incredibly rushed for the massive change in the entire covenant. while we were only seeing Truth’s fleet and those Elites that changed sides with the arbiter. So friendly & enemy hunters would’ve also made sense in 3 to some extent, as well as the introduction of San’Shyuum warriors as like special forces units within Truth’s fleet or from High Charity.

Flood hunters have never been shown and i think dismissed as possible by the lore (which would make them literally the perfect biological foe to the flood) However i think it would be better to be retconned as simply unlikely, but made possible. that is should we see flood in game again. San’Shyuum infantry could be very interesting. perhaps utilizing the floating tech in prophet thrones as a means to move unpredictably, idk, their weaponry could be more unique and incorporate more forerunner tech. They could have strong shields but be weak underneath. Some could wear powered armor. I think they could have filled the gap left by elites in Halo 3 at the very least. Elites imo should have been present in 3 (and especially ODST) as enemies, with only the forces present during the schism joining with humanity. They ended up making the timeframe seem incredibly rushed for the massive change in the entire covenant. while we were only seeing Truth’s fleet and those Elites that changed sides with the arbiter. So friendly & enemy hunters would’ve also made sense in 3 to some extent, as well as the introduction of San’Shyuum warriors as like special forces units
within Truth’s fleet or from High Charity.

Yeah, Halo 5 hunters were off the charts, crazy strong, their AI is amazing. Only halo infinites hunters are more powerful on legendary.
