    Thank you very much for this demo. I will try this out and ask my printer friend to help me pull a good print through his press.

    The main advantage to me is that when you do the painting first on the plexiglass and you decide you want to make changes to it you can just wipe that part off and redo it. Making changes to a large painting on paper is a much more difficult process. Only when it has been completed to your liking do you pull the print.

    I was just recently gifted an etching press, with little to no idea how to print with it. Being I’m an acrylic/mix media and watercolor artist, this video by far has given me ideas on how to experiment with it without having to go out and buy all new inks and other items, I can use what I have readily available. Thanks so much ❤

    Thank you for showing the “fails” and successes in the water soluble materials you used. Saves a lot of time and guessing for us!

    Thanks for this well crafted video. I intend to do some small water soluble media monoprints, so this video caught my eye. I really appreciated you showing how the different media printed. It gave me ideas beyond my original plan of watercolors and watercolor pencils and saved me time with failed experiments. I wondered after you pulled the print if you had tried to get a ghost print, but based on your comments, it sounds like the attempts at ghost prints weren't successful. Thanks for being so complete in your explanation.

      Hi ghost prints didn't work very well, parts of the plate that were heavy with media (paint) did print some what other parts little or nothing. however I didn't spend much time trying so it might have worked with more effort on my part. you might want to give it a try and see if you get better results JOHN DAWSON

    Hi John - thank you for the excellent tutorial - can you tell me if the water based ink is dry by the point you put the finished plate onto the press to print? Is the printing ink re-wetted by the damp paper or is there still residual dampness in the ink. Kudos to you for doing this in dry Arizona, I imagine this will be easier for me in rainy damp England.

      Hi
      None of the ink or other media needs to be wet. You can do the plate and print days or weeks later. It's the dampness of the paper that should cause the ink to print. Thanks for your interest JOHNDAWSON

    Hi, great informative video, what weight of paper would you recommend? I don't know the one you have mentioned, not sure if it available in the Uk.

    Thank you so much. I’m new to this, do you ever use acrylic paint as it’s water based? If not is there a reason why? (Also: what type of press should I buy? Could you poss toss out a couple of examples from lowest as I’m just starting to the better ones as well. $-$$ Again than you so very much! Beautiful art & enjoyable to watch.👍🏾👍🏽🧚🏻‍♂️

      acrylic paint wont work, because it isn't water soluble, once dried it won't dissolve and transfer the image to the paper. It's hard to suggest what press to buy. It depends on what you want to do and how large the pieces you would want to do would be. Even though they are expensive I like a traditional etching press, you can do almost anything on them. They have what is called a mono print press that is cheaper, but you can't adjust them for other things, you are stuck with something with very limited use, and they aren't that much less, so I wouldn't get that. Hope that helps JOHN DAWSON

    Beautiful! Can you pull a ghost print from your initial inking too, or is the media too quick drying?

    • @johndawson9683
      @johndawson9683  3 года назад +1

      I doubt that you could get much of a ghost image from the water based mono print method. you might get some, but I think most of the media on the plate comes off on the first print. It would probably depend on the material you used and how heavy it was to begin with. The oil based usually always leaves enough of a residue to get a ghost print.
