I have a male Anatolian shepherd that's 34 inches at the shoulder and is 150 pounds. He just turned a year 11/21/2019 so he's still growing. Anatolian shepherds are in my opinion the best dogs in the world. I've had pitbulls, Huskies, German shepherds, Rottweilers and Doberman Pinschers and though they are all great dogs in my opinion the anatolian shepherd is the best due to its personality, independence, strength, athleticism and there gentle touch toward children even though they are giants. I have no farm animals but my anatolian shepherd watches over my children and family as we are his flock. If your thinking about getting an anatolian shepherd then I say to you my friend your making a good choice

@Demo Thanks for putting this comment up.
I've been debating if I should get an Anatolian shepherd, my one fear being I don't live on a farm or have animals for it to herd. Wasn't completely sure how a dog would react to a situation like that.
Your post was very helpful, thank you.

I trust my dogs instincs over mine any day... They are highly intuitive. I have a pit. Hes very loveable but if someone comes in our home and is a bad person (no matter how long they have been associating with us) he will let us know by not biting but nibbling at their hand... Hes never been wronge. He is a good 2 yr old. Now we have 20 acres in the middle of no where and i am looking at a pup that is great pyrenees, anotolian shepard and maremma. She is absolutly gorgeous and since we are gonna have livestock and have such a big property and 3 boys(our kids not dogs) we figure she would be a perfect addition to our family.

Mine is a mix of some sort. She's 12 and has seen better days, but she's the best. I didn't have any idea what she was, but her behavior fit perfectly. She just lay in the front yard all day and was very wary of everything and barked as necessary . At sundown she perked up and barked at every shadow.. Aloof, but loves attention at times.

My daughter bought a purebred in late April. Got her at 8 weeks old, had her in puppy school by 12 weeks old to start training away from the stubborn streak, major tantrums for a couple of months (which were actually funny as hell) and now at 6 months she is the size of a small horse. She's gorgeous; tan body with black shadowing, dark black face and years. Very striking in that darker colour. They are not City dogs..acreage or farm is best.

I have one. The bite power on this animal is absolutely insane. Ours just turned 9 months@ 130 lbs and when he stands on his hind legs, he's taller than me. He is bred to retain the Kangal size, power, and speed to kill wolves, coyotes, and our breeder has shipped her bloodline to areas to attack mountain lions. This is NOT a dog for the first time dog owner.
