- In this installment of "The Good, The Bad and The Underrated," I take a deep dive into three Pandemic-themed movies. I'll detail why Contagion (2011) is so effective, why Outbreak (1995) is so underwhelming and I'll make a case for The Happening (2008), an under-appreciated Summer flick from M. Night Shyamalan.
The Great Pandemic:
2020 is but an unpleasant memory. Like a bad dream you can't shake off. It will forever be known as the year of the Pandemic. Viewership across all streaming platforms inevitably increased and so did interest in movies about the spread of viruses and diseases. Escapism is so passé!
