That dog caused forgive n forget to run out by the looks of it. What kind of knucklehead owner has a dog loose when the biggest race of the season is running? I’d have been fuming if that happened to my horse.
@@hughhull2646 I know but whether the dog being loose caused the problem or not the owner should NEVER have a dog off its lead next to a racetrack like this.
Thanks for uploading this for me. Haven't seen it since that day. If you have any races from cheltenham or royal ascot from 1986 & 1987. I appreciate giving up your time for this. Its great watching all these old races.
The year before 87 I told everyone to back it and told them if ever there was a cert this was it and they did ,I did my brains in on it and it was the first to fall and I felt terrible ,88 I kept my mouth shut and never backed it and it won ,story of my life and the story of many others people's lives
Forgive 'N Forget looked to be in with a great chance, until that little dog ran in front of it. Didn't notice that, when watching this all those years ago. Some great memories in these clips & nice to have the runners/riders & odds at the start too.
I don't remember that dog either but i think he was pulling the horse up straight after jumping the fence, that's where he went wrong it seemed to me....Think the winner would be in trouble with the whip rules today
@@danpalmer7676what idiot would have their dog off its lead next to Cheltenham racecourse while racing is on? Imbecile. It’s likely to have caused FnF to make an error at the fence, I believe the horse broke its leg that day and you can clearly see the dog running towards where the horse was pulled up.
I get flack all the time for saying it, but though a great man whose legacy remains, Sir Peter was not as good a commentator as people remember. In my estimation he cannot be held in the same league as Hoiles, Holt and others.
Playschool had an incredibly hard race prior to this race in winning the Irish Gold Cup on Heavy ground at Leopardstown where he almost fell at the last. He`d had a Hard season this being his 7th race that started in Mid October at Kempton in the Charisma Records Gold Cup, and included the Hennessy and Welsh National which he both won. I actually think Rhyme N Reason would have won this had he not fallen at the tricky 4th last, as on that soft ground he would have stayed on strongly up the hill.
I followed Beau Ranger when he Ran up a long Sequence of Hurdles Wins before going chasing..A grand Horse.. And Poor old Forgive n Forget..He would have Won barring that shattered fetlock..So sad...
Id been backing Forgive b Forget to win this for months. He was absolutely cruising until that dumb fkn dog appeared from nowhere. Awful that he died that day. He was my favourite horse for years.
Paul Nicholls, now a brilliant trainer, rode him that day and maintained he just wasn't right during the race. The horse had been outstanding that season, and what is not mentioned in the commentary is how surprising it was that he ran so badly. It was one of the few sub-standard commentaries by Sir Peter during an illustrious career.
don't anyone tell o'sullivan was a great commentator, at times he was absolute rubbish. like this race My old tb was related to cavies clown I am so proud of him.
Have you got a serious issue with Sir Peter? Every upload of him you seem to have a go at him, he commentated for over 50 years do you honestly think he could go all that time without making mistakes. Daft old twat.
Brilliant memory. The little dog on the course on the run to the third last made me chuckle.

What a line up. Fantastic!
what a lineup for this race, thanks for uploading

Never forget watching this with my mum. Poor forgive and forget (what a name) such a game horse x nice to see Cavvies clowns big ears again x.
Great to look back at that race, went to school with Mark Dwyer,he was devastated to lose forgive n forget, think he would have won
Great field some of the best chasers of all time all top class they were 😊nice to see that again beau ranger many a time l backed him and kildimo 😊

MEECHIO,
I totally agree with you - great era etc and very sad about Forgive n Forget - great horse. Hard game horse racing
sad indeed
Playschool's jockey is none other than Paul nicholls. He was a decent rider in his day.
Always good to be able to say @I was there'.
Live commentating is so interesting; If one was listening on the radio I would want to know about the hash that Cavvies Clown made of the penultimate.

@@keithknight1686 Yeah no mention of the fact Cavies tried to take the fence home with him
@6:49 the West Highland Terrier was making a move on the outside
Yeah but it ran like a dog though.

There was talk that he had been "got at".

the 2nd most important race in the nh calender and theres a dog runnin about, didnt take security too seriously in those days
I think it is THE most important race in the NH calendar to be honest.... and who takes their dog along to Cheltenham?...... ridiculous.
What were the odds on the dog? :)
go on Beau :)
It's impossible to say Forgive N' Forget would have won, there was still three fences to jump & more half a mile to run.

Rhyme n reason would go on to win the grand national that same year
Wow how did simon sherwood not fall off bet he felt like hed been gelded after the race must have weighed in a few ounces lighter
And almost back level at the last , , doubt he would have been beat but for the shuddering error at the 2nd last
A lot of people were of the option play school who was a terrific horse n consistent was got at ,including me 😤
Mark Correll and the evidence for that accusation is? 🤔

6:50+ there's a fkin DOG running about on the course!
+Jeef Moss Never trust a Cairn Terrier
Not the dog's fault, always the owner's. God alone knows how no-one was injured because of it, including the dog!
2 out done for cavvies clown
i think cavvies clown might win it

Dunwoody was the best
Agree ruthless he was mc coy was the same magnificent jockey s both of them loved Graham Bradley to tough one of the best but was controversial 😊
regardin the dog forgive n forget jumps fence 19 joint 3rd then seems to have to avoid the dog and pulls up
The horse broke a hind leg and sadly had to by put down and so maybe just looks like it was due to avoiding the dog, with the way he was pulled up.
shame about forgive and forget 😢
