      What's to question? Asked about scariest moment and his answer either meant there were no scary moments or the scariest moment was thinking they may not get to go. If you trained for years to go, only to have it called off would be a scary thought

    • @DeadEyeJedi
      @DeadEyeJedi 2 года назад +10

      Because it's not weird, it's him saying that they'd trained so hard for so many eventualities that fear wasn't part of the equation. They were test pilots, they already knew fear would kill them faster than most malfunctions.

    • @DeadEyeJedi
      @DeadEyeJedi Год назад +5

      @@tonykunkerino4087
      As I said, they were test pilots, they knew that the minute they started feeling fear, it could lead to panic, and panic achieves nothing. Like pilots who will, despite being terrified, continue reporting for the black-box as a plane is crashing in the hope the information will prove useful, that rule applies _twice_ as hard as test pilots, test pilots are literally chosen on their ability to not panic or get scared in tense situations, that's actually part of the requirements for _being_ a test pilot in the first place.
      So, yes, it's perfectly normal for Buzz Aldrin to say that 'being scared' didn't happen, that's why he was chosen to go.
      And I see that good old 'I don't care whether we landed on the Moon but [insert textbook Moon Hoaxer argument here]' is raising its head again. Yes, strangely enough, technology developed in 1969 is out of date and not much use, in fact, our computing and heat-resistance technology is decades ahead of Apollo, because it's been decades since Apollo and we learned a lot from the technology, but there was no point hanging on to the manufacturing facilities for stuff that was out of date.

    • @DeadEyeJedi
      @DeadEyeJedi Год назад +4

      @@tonykunkerino4087
      Your initial mistake is assigning the name 'handler' to the person with Buzz Aldrin, it already shows that you have assumed what their role is based on your bias.
      Secondly, they asked if he was scared, not if he felt 'fear', there is a difference between the two. He wasn't scared, even when he felt the adrenaline of fear, for the third time that was one of the criteria he had to meet in order to qualify for the astronaut program. He even at the end of his explanation says that, had the engines not fired it _could_ have been scary, but the situation never arose, so he wasn't scared, why worry about what _didn't_ happen?
      The comment you are referring to wasn't said by 'one of the heads of NASA', it was by Don Petit, an astronaut, and, once again, he is correct, until recently we did not have the equipment to return to the Moon with people, the original Apollo missions were about reaching the moon, there wasn't much interest in doing anything else until we recently started developing technology that could possibly make use of the Moon's resources, now the Artemis program etc. is looking at going back.
      I'm sorry to hear that me daring to respond to your accusations of me being a troll is so horribly inconvenient for you, I'm sure you'd much prefer it if people didn't defend themselves...

    • @DeadEyeJedi
      @DeadEyeJedi Год назад +1

      @@tonykunkerino4087
      And you claimed that fear _had_ to be part of the equation, which is doesn't, that's what the training is for, to remove fear from the equation so you can do your job. I paraphrased what was said, stuff happened that could have been scary, but it didn't happen, everything worked at they took off just fine.
      And thanks for proving my point.

    So at 30:17 a lady asks what was the scariest part about going, Buzz says "It didn't happen", but the more telling thing is that Buzz has a handler in case he messes up. So if we did go to the moon, and Buzz is telling the truth, why is there someone there to catch his mistakes?

      Not really, it's more a case of Hoaxers taking ONE sentence out of an entire conversation and then presenting it in a way that looks incriminating. It's not at all that he's 'admitted it', in fact, he punched Bart Sibrel in the face for calling him a liar, which was well deserved.
      It's like when he had an interview with a little girl, the Moon Hoaxers showed an edited version of the interview in order to change the context of what he said and tried to claim he had 'admitted' then as well when he was clearly saying that we didn't go _back_ to the Moon after the Apollo missions.

You are dismissing his claims which contradict the narrative you choose to accept, and accepting the claims which are in line. If you were consistent, you'd dismiss this claim as you interpret it just the same. But you don't. The quality of the source has nothing to do with the source; only the claim. It's a worthless methodology. You're also vastly misunderstanding his quote, but context clearly isn't important to you.
      If Buzz had first claimed that he never landed on the moon, and THEN claimed he did, you wouldn't dismiss the original claim. His words have nothing to do with what you choose to accept. First question from the audience: How did you feel when you landed on the moon and looked back at the Earth. No answer. Instead he talked about his wives. WTF. Zero technical discussion about getting through the thermosphere. Zero discussion about how the moon feels when you walk on it. "The moon dust might be poisonous" he said ie we still don't know whether it is or not ? So zero tests have been done on the dust/rock that they bought back ? What was the scariest moment of the journey ? Answer: It wasn't scary. Circuit breakers and the ladder were the top topic for some bizarre reason along with swimming, pole-vaulting and meals he had with presidents. Should we go back to the moon with better technology? After no answer and rambling on he blamed the budget. Anyone who had been to the moon would have said yes we should go back immediately. Constantly trying to be funny instead of discussing the most amazing feat of mankind. If someone went to the moon they would actually talk about it rather than rambling on about absolute rubbish. If (big if) we went to the moon he did zero to prove it. Their first interview in 1969 after their return was also absolutely bizarre. Cheers Buzz we know everything about going to the moon now. Lol.

      Good contribution and summary. Nothing really said from him, like a politician about the bush. If I had been on the moon, wow incredible feelings of being proud and overwhelmed about the extraordinairy experiences. But what is: He talks like he has been on a stage with grey dust in a studio with backdrops in the background making a video of 2,5 Hours lenght. And they were in the orbit of the earth for a few days, that is the feat. They have no idea about what the universe, the moon, the planets and stars really means, particulary Buzz Aldrin seems to be totally unaware and clueless about these subjects, he has no relation regarding these topics, like an ignorant.

    30:07 I time stamped the lady's question.
    So here's what you should do when listening to this. Use your brains and ears (whether you're brainwashed or have selective hearing or not) and stop taking things out of context.
    Put 2 & 2 together. It's not rocket science quite literally at this point. It's common sense and the way you comprehend the question and answer given.
    The lady asked, "what was the *_scariest moment_* of the journey?"
    Aldrin replied, "It didn't happen."
    Now let me translate for those who may be a little slow.
    *_What was it that didn't happen in the journey?_*
    He said the *_"scariest moment"_* of the journey didn't happen, when he said, "it didn't happen."
    Clearly there is an entire 1:04:57 of this Q&A between Aldrin and the interviewers in the audience who have asked dozens of questions. And yall chose to take this question and answer entirely out of context because ppl like making things up, misconstruing, and misinterpreting things so that they seem like lies. You're essentially creating a delusional hypothesis rather than actually listening and gaining cold hard facts.
    If she were to ask the question differently and received the same answer, yall would still make these false claims that he had denied that the moon landing ever happened.
    I can't understand it for you so don't get upset when I say, "I told you so", after you dig deeper into his answer. There's so much more evidence that the moon landing happened than there is evidence that it didn't happen.
    Just do your research, stop taking things out of context and actually listen and use your ears.
    There are many, many other events similar to this that ppl are taking out of context and running with it as an, "oh, here's the proof, you heard it from the horses mouth, this or that did or didn't happen."
    It shouldn't come to a point where people, like me, have to point out the obvious.
    Edited for spelling.

The real answer is that he's saying we never went in the first place, but it can also be interpreted as him saying that scary moment never happened. It was indeed a clever response that hits both sides. He's ambiguous for a reason because he's hiding something. Another quote from Prof. Van Allen
      "Dear Mr. Lambert,
      In reply to your e-mail, I send you the following copy of a response that I wrote to another inquiry about 2 months ago --
      Ø The radiation belts of the Earth do, indeed, pose important constraints on the safety of human space flight.
      Ø The very energetic (tens to hundreds of MeV) protons in the inner radiation belt are the most dangerous and most difficult to shield against. Specifically, prolonged flights (i.e., ones of many months' duration) of humans or other animals in orbits about the Earth must be conducted at altitudes less than about 250 miles in order to avoid significant radiation exposure.
      Ø A person in the cabin of a space shuttle in a circular equatorial orbit in the most intense region of the inner radiation belt, at an altitude of about 1000 miles, would be subjected to a fatal dosage of radiation in about one week.
      Ø However, the outbound and inbound trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft cut through the outer portions of the inner belt and because of their high speed spent only about 15 minutes in traversing the region and less than 2 hours in traversing the much less penetrating radiation in the outer radiation belt. The resulting radiation exposure for the round trip was less than 1% of a fatal dosage - a very minor risk among the far greater other risks of such flights. I made such estimates in the early 1960s and so informed NASA engineers who were planning the Apollo flights. These estimates are still reliable.
      Ø The recent Fox TV show, which I saw, is an ingenious and entertaining assemblage of nonsense. The claim that radiation exposure during the Apollo missions would have been fatal to the astronauts is only one example of such nonsense.
      James A. Van Allen"

    Gosh this video is not a very good advert for higher education in the UK, these people are our future lawyers, judges, doctors, accountants, mps etc and yet, almost 50 years since the 'event', can't muster up any decent questions to ask Aldrin. I thought the object of these discussions was to come away having garnered more information and stimulated by the whole thing?
    I mean come on "What was the silliest thing you did on the moon?"
    What the f**k? What a cretin, how does a question like that that further any kind of serious discussion?

      Those men are extremely intelligent and were trying to explain complicated matters. I understand why it’s hard to believe, it took a series of miracles, hard work, extreme intelligence, and collective teamwork. It’s no small task to undertake, but I firmly believe we went to the moon. I just don’t see why we would fake it when there were many other ways we could have proven our superiority. As I am writing this comment, Artemis 1 is currently orbiting the moon, testing and paving the way for the next series of moon missions, set to establish a permanent presence on the moon and eventually to Mars.

      For example, in the video you keep lauding regarding an interview between Buzz Aldrin and a young girl named Zoey, the bit that is avoided is the question leading up to what he said, Zoey asked Buzz "why didn't we go back to the Moon?", Buzz's reply was "that's the thing, we _didn't go_" and he was talking about how much of a pity it was that we never returned to the Moon after the Apollo series.
      People like you try to twist a few moments from an entire interview in your favour without _ever_ bothering to look at the whole of said interview. Buzz has never (publicly) entertained the philosophical notions of his moon landing. What was the biggest impact of the first moon landing? The development of an industry capable of strategic missile defense. What were his initial thoughts upon exiting the lander? "I had a job to do." Is landing on the moon again with more advanced technology a good idea? What's more important is stimulating public interest and then funding for a clearly defined objective. He actually answers every question, though it sometimes seems like he doesn't. My absolute favorite moment in NASA history was when he punched that guy in the face for calling him a liar and a fraud. On September 9, 2002, Aldrin was accosted by conspiracy theorist Bart Sibrel and a film crew outside a Beverly Hills hotel he was lured to on the pretext of being interviewed for a Japanese children’s TV show. Sibrel cornered Buzz Aldrin in Beverly Hills and badgered him about whether the moon landing and his lunar walk was fake. “You’re the one who said you walked on the Moon when you didn’t,” Sibrel says.
      Sibrel even shoved the Bible in Aldrin's face a couple of times, asking him to swear on the book. And if that wasn't enough, he went on to call Aldrin “a coward, and a liar, and a thief.”
