I'm from Boise and have been considering these Contis. Knowing you're from this area and the terrain you ride has sealed the deal for me on getting these Contis. Thanks!
@@dustinbjohnson Hell yeah! Picking up a set of Conti's this weekend even though I have a brand new set of Schwalbe Super Trail casing Wicked Will Addix SpeedGrip rear/Tacky Chan Addix Soft front that I haven't even mounted up yet.
Glad you are finally converted. Continental unveiled they will finally be making softer compounds in lighter casings. The super soft version of this is unreal! Currently running Argotal SS/Kryptotal S on my DH/freeride wheelset and Krypto S/ Xynotal S for AM/Enduro. The Argotal is the most impressive tire I've ever tried for loose mountain jank.
Thanks dude! Yeah, it took me a minute to fully convert. But now I don’t think I could ever go back to maxxis. I’m absolutely in love with these tires. My buddy said the same thing about the argotal SS. I’m going to try that as well.
Couldn’t agree more with your review. These Conti’s definitely run better if they’re a bit softer. The DH casing can feel a bit “wooden” and it takes some time getting used to, messing around with psi etc. My next combo will be Kryptotal Front (DH casing) on the rear, and Argotal (DH casing) on the front.
You've inspired me to give these a proper look at again. Have a few of the Kryptotal Enduro Soft (F/R) sat about. I ended up using Kryptotal rears on front and back as they are similar to my favourite DHR2 front/Rear setup.
@@coryhill8446 I also thought it is odd they made a 2.6 rear and not a 2.6 front. Seems like they’d do the opposite of they were going to leave one out.
I did give the krypto Rear a try on the front and I dig like it. But was also the endurance compound so wasn’t in love. I’m sure the enduro soft is much better!
Love the colour of your SCOR- I’m on a 4060Z LT and just took of the stock Maxxis for Kryptotal F/R - the stock Assegai is shit on a 50lb e-bike. Tried every psi imaginable and it can’t hold a line on any trail conditions. Worst thing is the chunking of all Center tread blocks. Excited to try the Contis! Great video btw
Thanks dude!! Scor is the most underrated brand in MTB! Their bikes are insane!! I think you’ll love the contis especially for e-bike. They will be perfect 🍻
Love your tyre reviews, simply the best. I run Magic Mark soft front and Wicked Will blue rear. Love this set up always use them especially here in the UK mud. But been interested in Continental and your review has defiantly sparked my interest. Getting a new bike in the summer so lets see what I get
I just switched from Assegai Maxxgrip front and DHR II maxxterra Rear to a conti setup. I'm running Kryptotal front enduro soft and a xynotal enduro soft in the rear. Only have like 3 rides on them but they definitely roll much faster than my last setup. Grip feels almost the same, I haven't noticed much of a difference yet. For anyone wondering, the enduro casing feels tougher/heavier than the EXO+ maxxis casing, and the soft compound feels a bit harder to the fingers than a maxxterra tire. The endurance compound is more similar to a maxxis dual compound tire. Also, how much do you weigh? 20-22 psi seems a bit low for my riding weight (165lbs). I usually run 23 front 26 rear with my maxxis (but I also run cushcore so idk if that makes a difference). Still running cushcore with the conti tires. Only downside is that the enduro casing was much more of a headache to mount with cushcore compared to my EXO+ casing maxxis. So far I'm impressed.
I've been a customer of many different Maxxis tire models. Maxxis is good, and I've used them for great ridiing. I swapped to Continental because I've been hearing good things about them. I will say Kryptotal Enduro casing, even the Trail casing is the best tire I've ever used. Really durable. Really fast rolling, and the lugs on the side for cornering holds really well. The transition from mide tire to side lugs isn't seamless but when you transition to side ot gives you confidence.
How is the transition to the side knobs compared to say the DHF "dead spot"? Obviously the Assegai is seamless which is one of its biggest selling points and in my personal experience the Vittoria Mazza also transitions to its side knobs seamlessly. There's no reason for a "dead spot" tire anymore
@@mrvwbug4423depends. For many and myself assegai is great but feels boring and suits beginners better. With the DHF you have to ride with focus to engage the side knobs. The assegai makes gripping so easy it can be bad for technique. Also they slide out weird and sketchy at times surprisingly which the DHF doesnt
Xynotal 29x2.4 Enduro - 1250g. It has good rolling resistance, works great in dry conditions, but it lacks of predictability if things get wet, especially if track is filled with leaves, needles and other forest stuff.
I have been a tire junkie since the mid 90s. Owned a custom high end shop as well in the early 2000s. I have ridden danmned everything applicable for rocky technical terrain. I am digging these same tires as well. Can't wait to get up to Angel Fire for some downhill action next month on them.
Yes!! 🙌 love hearing for other tire junkies. Just something about these tires that are addicting.. I got confirmation that a trail/soft and enduro/supersoft coming soon. Stoked for those
If it wouldn’t have been for the ridiculous sale on Maxxis tires a few months ago (which may be why you can’t sell your DHR) I was just about to pull the trigger on Continentals. Given how spot on your Maxxis Dissector/Agressor recommendation was in an old video I’m stoked to try them when put on my next set!
Dude no wonder this thing isn’t selling!! Funny enough someone came it snagged them all this morning! 🙌 I appreciate the words man!! I really like these contis! Just so much fun to ride them
That's funny and interesting. I was on Kryptotal F and R for a few months (back tire blew out), Michelin Wild Enduro for 3 months (side knobs shredded off and Victoria Mazza and Martello for maybe 2 months (3 flats/punctures). Loved them all for the triangle reason, BUT. Back to Maxxis DHF OR Assagai EXO Front and Agressor DD Rear for me. Ran that combo for an entire year (2K miles) and no issues just wore out from so much riding. I'm done caring about "heavy tires". Fixing flats and having issues on the trail is so annoying and frustrating than carrying a few extra grams around. Its always the back tire for me that blows out from hits, but im sure everyones riding style and terrain they ride plays into factor also. I do 2 xc rides amd 2 enduro a week. Maybe 3-4 Bike Park days year and just have one bike for it all (hoping that'll change soon and get an xc bike for long mile days).
I agree! I ram Maxxis and Vittoria tyres and now am running Argotal (2.6") front and Kryptotal (also 2.6") rear. Have already purchased another set just in case I slice one. Amazing grip F/R and now run lower pressures (from 13/16psi in loam and 20/23psi in extremely rocky terrain, usually 16/19psi for all around riding) with a lot of grip and like you say, not much drag. And BTW, I weigh 96kg, so not a lightweight 😎
I run the Kryptotal Front Super Soft downhill casing, Rear Soft downhill casing. I absolutely love the grip even when wet. Almost everyone I ride with uses them.
Main thing I've heard is the Conti DH casings are so hard to get on and off that you might as well get a new set of wheels haha. I've also heard that DH casing SS/S combo is the way to go.
Good to hear your views! Thanks!!! I tried them on my friends bike and felt they were so heavy and draggy, wasnt sure if they were the super soft. Running maxxis forekasters Fand R on my SB140 29ner. Wet roots and rocks, mainly slow techy trails.
Thanks dude!! I do want to try the super soft. My buddy in Cali runs them and he fines them less draggy then assegai MG/ dissector MT combo. But i will hopefully try them soon 🤞
I’d swear the Kryptotal rear would have been slow, it was fast. The rubber is amazing. Grips, doesn’t rip knobs and doesn’t wear. Did Kryptotal front and rear. Trail on rear and soft enduro on front. Sticks! No punctures!
I’m running both kryptotal front and rear and holy shit did it change my bikes feel COMPLETELY. It’s Insane how much more grip these have compared to my maxxis or schwalbe. They also roll so much better than any other tires I’ve had in the same bike park sections. I think I’m going to be rocking continentals for good now
I have Vittoria on my Trek Rail now.. but i will be trying the conti's next because of this review! Also i just emailed Conti asking them to send you some tyres in the future.. I feel you deserve it ;-)
Still a Schwalbe fan for MTB main tyres but also run a set of gravel specific tyres on narrower rims on the hardtail. For these I run Continental. Crossking II front, Raceking II rear. Both 2.0. The v2 are tubeless compatible. Excellent casing, very grippy. Most gravel riders are going to 45-48mm. These on a hardtail run pretty much the same.
Tried the magic mary big Betty combo last year on a demo Transition - running them on my bike now. Way better with keeping me upright than maxis or the specialized tires
My current setup is DHF front and Dissector rear. Are you telling me that this setup is faster? If so then I will switch over due to my tires being worn out. Also do these pump up to a true 2.4 ?
@@justinfournier1285 Xynotal feels similar to the Maxxis Dissector or even better, IMO. I ride mainly in the wet & muddy and occasionally in the dry. No matter the riding condition, the Xynotal rear and Kryptotal front feel amazing. However, it may wear quicker than Maxxis tyres since the compound used on the continentals is softer
Dustin , Have you ever tried the Maxxis Crossmark or Crossmark 2 ? They size on the narrow side of XC and I’m talking strictly for the rear out your way might work . Just thought I’d throw it down to you to look into 👍😎
@@johnfinelli6882 yeah I’ve spent some time on both of those cross marks. Not my cup of tea just too XC for me. I tend to prefer the dissector aggressor if I’m running maxxis. But I have switched to the Continentals. And they are a game changer. 👌
Yea , I’m seeing lots of great Reviews/tests on The Conti’s. Especially The Kryptotal Fr and Xynotal Rr in the compounds and casing combo ur running , I’m in inland northeast Connecticut totally different Terrain from yr hometown . I’m running Supertrail /Magic Marys Fr/Rr on my 2022 Nomad CC v5 . Great combo at 1135grms per tire with 2.6 width For the rocky and rooty terrain .The tires aren’t even broken in yet . Would love to see you do a live ride sometime on the contis Peace bro 😎
I agree with you 100%. These tires are lively. Have grip great sidewall protection. And Yet the rolling speed is amazing. Your pressure can be lowered For different terrain like roots. Other obstacles because of the side wall strength. I weigh a 150 pounds. I wish there was a test on these tires. Showing different air pressures On different terrain VS rolling speed. I'm 71 so I look for anything I can get. By the way, I love your passion.
100% mate. I used to ride a hardtail a couple years back and Maxxis tyres were not an option. Either punctures all the time, or sidewall slashes. Switched to Conti and have used the same tyres now for over a year and not even one puncture or burp.
I would go krypto Re as a front tire (very similar to dhr2) with xynotal rear. That setup will destroy on a short travel trail rig! Enduro soft up front for more grip. But the trail endurance will probably be ample traction. But can’t go wrong either way!
Sweet dude thanks for the intel. Maybe will give them a try when these are worn. I like the exo+ casing for support but don't need super tacky rubber rear so I like Maxx Terra for durability and rolling. Seems that'd be analogous to enduro casing / endurance compound, which I'm not sure Conti offers Hard to go away from maxxis with all of their available combinations!
Just picked up Kryptotal Downhill SuperSoft for my front and a Kryptotal Downhill Soft for the rear. Now I don't do gravity but they're going on an Orbea Rise so it's like gravity but on the flat :)
Great to get your long term usage feedback for these tyres. Can you please remind me the wheel size and travel for that bike as well as the type of trail surface you usually ride?
I'm about to upgrade my 27.5 150mm F/140mm R all mountain bike. Currently it's a DHF 3C Maxterra 2.5 F/Dissector DC 2.4 R. After watching your earlier videos I was thinking DHR2 F/Forekaster V2 R (both 2.4). However I'm in eastern Australia in Sydney, which means sandstone!! So there's usually a mix of large rocky platforms, loose sand over a rocky base or sand-based trails. I usually avoid riding wet trails as they get chewed up easily and don't cope like more loamy soils overseas. Availability of Continental in Aus might be limited but would you recommend the same sort of set up as your current choice? Also, have you looked at any of their XC tyres or would you still go with Maxxis for that discipline?
Where to start. I read the reviews and months ago bought a Kryptotal for the rear of my Trek Rail. I'm an old fart and still like to run tubes - and run 30 psi to minimise punctures. For the life of me I couldn't fit the Kryptotal to my Bontrager rim so I took it to my Trek bikeshop and watched as two guys stretched themselves and the tyres to mount it. Rode with the tyre and really liked it (it rides firm but weight not an issue given the ebike) but I eventually recognised if I got a flat kilometres from home I don't have 4 hands to be able to change the tube off and on, so I bought Maxxis DHR II. I really like Maxis as reliable and easy to fit. In the mean time I bought myself some Industry Nine wheels to move away from the issues of Bontrager wheels (which independent bike shops would tell me about too). I recently wore the rear Maxxis out of tread and the rear was locking up and sliding more than I usually enjoy, so swapped the Kryptotal in. Took no time at all to fit to the Industry Nine - going straight on!! First ride today with the Kryptotal on the back and I couldn't believe just how much grip I had leaning the bike over through twisty single track, and going downhill I just can't tell you how much faster these things roll than the excellent Maxis DHR II. Great review which pretty much sums up everything I experienced today.
Same, I've not tried the Contis yet, but have tried other tires and the only thing that has touched the Assegai up front was the Vittoria Mazza. Magic Marys are a wet conditions tire, they're squirmy on dry conditions, Butchers ... lol.
@@mrvwbug4423 I tried though what I experienced was other tires not being reliable or had a squirm or just plain didn’t grip I remember I found a set of tires that I had heard were very good & I loved the traction & grip but i ride very rocky trails & I was getting flats or burbs on the uphill & I’d flat almost everytime going downhill. I’ve just never found anything better all the way around then Maxxas & they are expensive but I feel like when you pushing your limits that’s your life on the line mountain biking can be gnarly & the terrain unforgiving. Real life stuff.
Great review! Currently running kryptotal enduro soft f/r and agree with you're entire review. My only gripe is kryptotal f doesn't come in 2.5. I still think assegai is king for a front tire. Fyi kryptotal trail soft is coming out soon!
I run the same combo for about a year now, soft kryptotal in front and endurance xynotal in the rear. It has the grip for enduro and almost as fast as an XC combo. And that endurance tyre still looks like new. For really wet and muddy days I have an argotal/xynotal combo in soft, I'd go with super soft if I could get that in a lighter casing though. And yeah, no more maxxis for me either.
Really looking forward to them releasing the trail casing tires in soft compound that they previewed at Sea Otter to try them and see if I prefer a Krpyo/Xyno over my current DHR2/Dissector combo in EXO 3CMT.
DJ - where do you normally ride? Ive been on diss/agg for CO front range and high country. Pretty solid until aggressor wears down then can be sketchy in cat litter.
@@theskilawyer yo! I agree on the aggressor when I wears out. I’m out in Idaho. Pretty similar terrain as CO! I’m still loving the conti’s I show no signs of going back to maxxis!
@@dustinbjohnson reply in real time! Heat and smoke in ID no bueno today. Im ordering xryp/xyn today since I holed my aggressor yesterday. My nearly new dissector will be a garage ornament i suppose. Stay out trouble!
Any experience with xynotal enduro on front? I pulled trigger on xyn trail for rear. Seen some Mention of going xyn f/r and im considering enduro front trail rear.
I have a DHF 2 in the rear 2.4 and a Krypto 2.6 up front on my 100mm travel and it’s is so dang smooth! And I’m saving a little here and there for that xynotal, I bet it’s going to feel amazing. Riding hard packed mixed with loose stuff. That front has not let me down at all. I feel the same way about maxxis in terms of how everyone just has those. Conti is a head turner.
Kryptotal FR Trail casing with the soft compound are coming to the public real soon, Revel has been shipping their new Rascals with it. not sure about an enduro super soft, but we can all hope lol
Hey Dustin, Continental said at Sea Otter that they are going to release the Kyrptotal FR in trail casing / soft compound starting Q3 2024. Hopefully this change will be reflected with the rest of their lineup going forward. The Xynotal is my favorite rear tire for trail riding.
Ive been riding Cross Kings for a while. Really good tire but not so good in loose dirt/sand/ mud. About to mount another rear Cross King in a couple days. The front tire is 2.5 years old and still has plenty of life ( no wear !!) well worth the 52.00 dollars !!
I just got a XC hardtail and I’m interested in these tires for some light trail riding. What would be your suggestion for front and back as far as compounds go and something that handles a little of everything. I live in the North East and can have anything from hard packed to loose and sandy. I should probably also mention that I ride on the street a lot with my kids. Would the Kryptotal in a enduro casing and enduro compound be my best bet or should I mix front and back like you did? I need help because if fallen into the rabbit hole of online reviews chasing my tail trying to find tires🤦🏻♂️
Ya dude the new Contis rule! I run Kryptotal f/r super soft/soft on my levo and they grip and roll so damn good! Also run same setup as you on my regular bike and I can’t believe how well they roll and grip they inspire confidence and I no longer worry about my tires
I love my Continental Cross Kings 27.5x2.6 on rigid atb. It's so fun and fast for xc while not a pitb on connecting paved roads. Been singing the praises for a year now and see what these alt gravelist are talking about their xc tires. Durable and fast.
I was a continental lover! And then I rode them in the wet and realized that my XC Schwalbe tires felt better on a wet rock than a Continental Enduro/DH tire. If I didn’t ride in wet from time to time I might still have them. The most recent PB revel review also matched my review so I’m glad it’s not just me.
@@JulianKent I used endurance compound which was sorta marketed as exo competition but it’s more like dual compound. Last forever and lacks grip. If we see the lighter casing with soft compound then I’ll maybe give continental a try again but was very not impressed with endurance casing. If you are going to be a “gravity” line even your lightest tire shouldn’t be shit.
@@MillerRL96 there are 2 things, the casing and the compound. Right now they are paired directly with trail and endurance, which I think is a bit dumb. Yes, the trail casing is like exo, maybe even exo+. But the compound for endurance is like the maxxis dual compound, except it lasts even longer. Hopefully in future they will give tyres with the trail casing and soft compound, for people who don't have so many sharp rocks but still need the grip. But in the mean time try the enduro/soft combination, it is way better in the wetthan the endurance.
Would you consider that you need the additional grip from the super soft compound? I still did not get any feedback from conti on possible release dates
@@michaelgoodwin593yeah my dissector is toast so tempted to switch for xynotal soft and run the assegai MG down till it’s released. My friend actually runs KrF SS DH/ Kr S End rear and says it’s killer
I wanted to love the Continental tires but I slashed two tires with the Enduro casing on XC trails in the first four rides that EXO casing I've run for an entire year. The Continental were good for what they are and I was going to keep them but I didn't want to spend even more money in the hopes they wouldn't cut yet again. Maybe after the current setup burns out I'll try again
@@DR_mountain76 damn you cut the enduro casing? Man they seem super tough to me. Much tougher then my maxxis EXO or EXO + that I used to ride. I run trail out back and still no flats.
@dustinbjohnson yeah it was crazy I've always run EXO front and EXO+ rear never cut a single tire. I put Trail casing front and enduro rear. Cut the rear on a tech trail so I assumed I was running to low of pressure at 24 psi (185lbs kitted) so went with another enduro and went to 26psi. Cut it two rides later on a fast XC down section just wide open over roots and light gravel.
I currently run Kryptotal Enduro Soft Fr and Re on a trail bike, they ve got a shit load of grip especially on low pressure and I can't imagine to flatten them but hell they are ridiculously slow both when climbing I have to ride passages first gear sweating where I usually (MAXXIS Dissector) ride second third gear with ease and also on rather flat trail passages it's very hard to gain some speed with those Kryptotals. I definitely have to test lighter Xynotal Trail version at least on the rear. Generally, the continental's seem to wear much slower than maxxis
I ride super dry rocky and loose over hard stuff, almost always run exo DC dhf/aggressor or exo EC dissector/forekaster. Tried kyrptotal trail/endurance front and rear, was not impressed and front felt more squirrely and less hooked in than the dhf. I still have my trail/endurance xynotal, so I'll have to pick up a enduro/soft kryptotal and see if i can like this tire.
For my ebike I got a 27.5 argotal Conti at the back. A 27.5 Assegai front for bike park. a 29 schwalbe smart sam plus front wheel for hardpack doubletrack gravel stuff. road to work. a 29 front wheel Argotal for muddy days, a 29 front whell nobby nic as a reserve (from my all mtn analog bike) Like Conti too....
Have Argotal on front and Kryptotal on rear of my Firebird. Do quite enjoy them (especially for bombing down Sweet Connie) and also found that I had to run 18-20 psi in front for best traction and rolling performance combined (when I normally ride 22-24 psi on my Assegai, DHF, or Butcher front tires).
You're going to get a flat eventually at those pressures and those casings imo. I hope you don't but you're taking the risk. With these tires with the weight difference, for tubeless, go for the DH casing when in doubt (unless of course you aren't doing much downhill). They are fantastic, the kryptos for me were a big upgrade.
@@Fordtruck4sale 1000 miles going now and no flats 🙌🤞 I don’t ride super aggressive. I rarely flat no matter what tire. With maxxis I flat once a year maybe on EXO
What's better EXO+ or DD? I'm just getting back into mountain biking after playing D1 soccer. My bike came with the Forecaster EXO and I still haven't gotten a flat with my beginner riding but I know once I progress/better my skills I'm going to be an aggressive rider. I've been looking for some new tires but I'm having a hard time deciding between the EXO+ or DD as my full suspension bike is a trail bike. I do ride my bike from my house to the trails (skyline park) here in Napa, CA since it's only like a 10 minute ride. My main concern is getting a blowout/flat on the way to the trails or while on the trails and having to walk the bike back. @@ogmr.c3714 EXO+ is light and solide . I ride on hautes Alpes in french with lot off bad rock .(assegai/dissector) . Never blowout/flat except in bike park . You can take EXO+ back and front and go to exo+/DD only if you have probleme
Hi, did you already trying the krypto re on the back. I'm not sure if I order the krypto or xynotal for the back. I'm not sure if the krypto is to much
What a great review! Thanks for posting Dustin. You inspired me to get a new Kryptotal 2.4 Enduro soft for my front. Looking for a rear option xynotal. Looking at the enduro soft or the trail endurance. It’s been a while since you posted the video. Would you still recommend the trail endurance for the rear?
Hey Bud, great review. I've been hearing raves about these Continental tires. I guess I'm just sick of hearing everyone (including you) that Maxxis are the best. I'm a Schwalbe fan tho, but like hearing about different brands. I've also heard Michelin Tires are making noise too. Good review man.
I always get the impression from every review of the Kryptotal front that is never quite at the level of the MaxGrip Assegai. The biggest thing the Contis have as a selling point in their favor right now is that Vali Holl runs them and won her world championships on them last year. I still want to try a set, but with them as expensive as Maxxis I'd want to try them on a demo bike before I plunk down $200 on unknown tires. And for me I would probably run DH casings on both ends with SS/S compounds, for loose, rocky Colorado conditions and a fair number of bike park days, I'm hard enough on tires to need DD casings and cush core out back.
Yeah it’s not really comparing apples to apples for me. The Krypto Soft is equal to the Assegai Maxxterra. And the maxxgrip would be equal to the Krypto SuperSoft , which I haven’t tried yet but hope to soon! But kyrpto soft to the assegai maxxterra. I’m definitely taking the Krypto. Grip is equal and conti is more predictable for me
I have over $1000 in testing tires between Conti and Maxxis across 3 bikes, (German and Chinese made Conti) and the Kryptotal front Soft Enduro isn’t as grippy as a Maxxgrip Assegai in my conditions. It’s just not. I don’t have a DH casing requirement so I don’t have experience on the super soft conti, but that’s because they chose not to make it. At the same time, I’m in the PNW on the Xynotal soft enduro rear and it’s terrible for climbing. It has almost no grip on roots and no bite. Looking at the ramps why would you expect it to. So it’s easy to read comments and understand a bit about how someone rides compared to their comments.
@@justinfournier1285 well you really have to compared the krypto enduro soft to the assegai maxterra. That’s the right comparison. The assegai maxxgrip should be compared to the krypto supersoft. I ride dry dusty trails. And I agree the xynotal performs more like a semi-slick. I really love the speed of that tire. But if I needed more climbing traction I’d go krypto rear. But like I said I’m not trying to tell anyone what to ride. Just sharing my opinion
@@dustinbjohnson Yeah, I was basically seconding your opinion it’s not a good comparison, but with no equivalent casing/compound combination from Conti, it’s not an actual choice for someone who wants a really grippy front. Soft compound on trail casing would be a pass for me anyways, I’m close to 200lbs kitted up. That being said, my Conti Enduro/Soft are on a 140/120 bike and DD/EXO+ are on a 160/157 bike so one can prefer more grip for potentially higher speeds where pedaling isn’t as important, line choice, suspension setup, terrain and PSI are going to determine more than people seem to expect. Just casing changes ideal PSI, and inserts, rim width, and tire volume change more than people seem to understand as well. Running a 2.5” front with more volume and less PSI is going to provide more grip than a narrower higher psi option you can’t run lower, in most conditions, not to mention rim width varies across setups and effects profile. Someone running a 2.4” front on a 28mm isn’t in the same discussion as someone on a 2.5” front 33-35mm inner rim.
@@justinfournier1285 yeah I was actually going to say I actually kind of messed that up a little bit in the video on the comparison. And I think your spot on. You actually bring up another good point on the bigger bikes we’re rolling isn’t that big of a deal? I could see where a lot of people might prefer maxxis
I ride to my local trail on tarmac (5 mile round trip) and wear out rear tires faster than normal. Assegai maxx grip front/ dissector dual compound rear (rolling speed is noticeably less than fave dhr2). Soft front/hard rear. I’m sure I could sort a similar combo with a Conti, but as Colorado Cyclist selling Dissectors for $31, I just bought two to stock up…..
Ah were have you been i have missed the tyre arguments i regularly think of you when out riding and sliding the front into corners and saying to myself its not a motocycle ha ha greetings from down under bro .
Teravail honcho durable (not light and supple )is a great tire imo. Fast rolling with decent to good grip. The tires that clear mud well slow down the ride so much it takes the fun out of it imo
Couldn't agree more... Amazing. Maxxis needs to invest again, Conti has really won this round, they last longer, side knobs don't rip off, much better in the corners.
Dude yes! 🙌 I feel like maxxis has gotten complacent. Their knobs just fall apart after a weekend of aggressive lift riding. I think continental has nailed speed, grip, and wear.
My favorite tire combo, which I use on my Stumpy Evo, is the 2.6 Maxxis Rekon front and 2.4 Rekon rear, both in 60tpi Dual Compound EXO/TR. Rolls very fast. Predictable traction. Consistent cornering. I've tried Dissectors, Rekon Races, Minions, Ikons. These give me the perfect mix of traction, rolling resistance, and weight.
You used "consistent cornering" and Rekon in the same sentence? Assuming XC bike? I demoed a bike with Rekons on both ends and I would NEVER put a Rekon on the front of a bike, on the back sure, but it doesn't have enough corner knob for a front. Forekaster would probably be a good front to run with a Rekon out back.
@@mrvwbug4423 A 2.4 Rekon, 2.4 Forecaster, 2.4 Dissector, none make a good front tire but they all make good rear tires. The 2.6 Rekon, 2.6 Forekaster, 2.6 Dissector, all make good front tires but I would not recommend them as rear tires. The 2.4 Minion DHR makes a good front or rear tire. The 2.6 Minion DHR, I wouldn't use front or rear. Changing the width of a tire just that little bit, totally changes the way a tire performs.
The definitely have a different feel. I would say the Conti have a little bit more of a supportive feel. The Enduro casing is probably similar to an exo+ but not quite a double down.
Great review, do you think a Hardtail would benefit from a Xynotal enduro soft rear (since it inherently has less traction)? Planning to run Kryptotal Re in enduro soft up front (I'm a DHR II guy), on my aggressive 140mm hardtail (I like it being as versatile as possible, since it's my only ride)
I have ridden continental tires for 18years on my road bikes. Hands down best tires! I concur. I only ridden Maxxis on my MTB. I was looking at the continental but I will wait until it is time to replace them.
2 Continental Race King tires have a wobble, while Maxxis Ardent are really good tires! I had few pairs of Maxxis tires, and I never had one single problem with them. Schwalbe? Same as Conti, unreliable and they puncture easily. My choice? Maxxis and Bontrager! Of course, I don't ride high end stuff,I can't afford that. Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
@@dustinbjohnson I hope so 😅 Having 2 tires with exactly the same problems, not a good selling point for the brand! And we can't all afford that high end Black Chilly stuff 😌 Greetings from Kris 😎
I’m in between trying new Schwalbes and any other brand for my replacements on my new Epic EVO. The stock Ground Control T7’s ride soft and supple, but the grip sucks big time, scrubbing in corners and they are quite unpredictable too. I can’t wait to dump those tires!
If you live in the south like Texas or Florida somewhere with rolling terrain just stick with the endurance. I had this set up in the endurance casing trail compound and he’s right they literally felt like XE tires on the rolling speed side of things.
Understandably reviews are done with brand new rubber..however I’ve found Conti really wins big when you compare after miles have been logged. Maxxis side knobs chunk-off or detach from casing whereas Conti’s just wear “normally” DHF being the worst of all as stipped knobs decenergrate almost immediately. Liked and subbed broch !
Thanks dude!! I forgot to talk about that. It’s crazy how maxxis tires literally just fall apart. I can’t believe how well these tires wear for how much grip they have!
@@mrvwbug4423 Oh I’m no enduro bro lol, I’m on a shorter travel trail bike, don’t want to sacrifice rolling resistance for increased grip on trails that my travel numbers would struggle on. Kryptotals with a trail casing would be a great choice
RAD! I wanted to try them too, I hope one day you could try to new michelin ones, but Im afraid their weight will scare you haha... I also notice, you are using shimano brakes now instead of magura.
Yoo Dustin , Great Videos man. I watched one of your old vids when you first bought the 4060 and now I just bought my 4060 ST frame and awaiting delivery! Im curious to know what Head angle setting are you currently riding Steep or Slack mode ? Cheers from Denmark !
Ran Kryptotal Fr/Re trail endurance on my Fuel Ex, got 2 punctures on the Rear after like 18 miles.. . Might have been bad luck but I also think I destroyed the casing because I can´t get it to stop wobble afterwards. Liked them otherwise, switched to a Xynotal enduro soft in rear instead and I´m very happy so far Might switch for a Kryptotal enduro in front also. Dont feel draggy and even done some PBs with the Xynos (Doing trail, some enduro races and park days)
Swapped my Krypto / Xyno trail casing on my new set of wheels and now both have wobbles : ( bummed because they've been so good on the big rig (krypto FR/RE DH)
Drinking Corona and calling it beer does not inspire me to believe your tire choices are any better, but that’s just my thought process🤣

Thank you! 🙏 that’s a very good combo!
@@dustinbjohnson thank you. It works really well for me
I just switched from Assegai Maxxgrip front and DHR II maxxterra Rear to a conti setup.
Couldn’t agree more man! The enduro is kind of a pain to install. If I ran CC I probably would have given up on installing them 😂
Rider weight 150lbs
I've been a customer of many different Maxxis tire models. Maxxis is good, and I've used them for great ridiing. I swapped to Continental because I've been hearing good things about them. I will say Kryptotal Enduro casing, even the Trail casing is the best tire I've ever used. Really durable. Really fast rolling, and the lugs on the side for cornering holds really well. The transition from mide tire to side lugs isn't seamless but when you transition to side ot gives you confidence.
I completely agree with everything you said!! 💯
You need to try Butcher T9 front with Krytotal Re rear.
Xynotal 29x2.4 Enduro - 1250g. It has good rolling resistance, works great in dry conditions, but it lacks of predictability if things get wet, especially if track is filled with leaves, needles and other forest stuff.
Same weight as a Michelin dh34...
Yeah probably wouldn’t be my choice for wet conditions. I live in the super dry climate
Yeah it’s really bad in the wet and in particular when climbing. Heavy as well. Dry hard pack it would probably be awesome.
I have been a tire junkie since the mid 90s. Owned a custom high end shop as well in the early 2000s. I have ridden danmned everything applicable for rocky technical terrain. I am digging these same tires as well. Can't wait to get up to Angel Fire for some downhill action next month on them.

They definitely seem to be making a big impact and seem to be really giving maxxis a run for their money!
Main thing I've heard is the Conti DH casings are so hard to get on and off that you might as well get a new set of wheels haha. I've also heard that DH casing SS/S combo is the way to go.
This is the same combo that I'm going with. Tires arrive this week and I'm preparing for how hard it will be to get them beaded lol

There’s definitely some magic in this rubber! 🪄
I’m running both kryptotal front and rear and holy shit did it change my bikes feel COMPLETELY. It’s Insane how much more grip these have compared to my maxxis or schwalbe. They also roll so much better than any other tires I’ve had in the same bike park sections. I think I’m going to be rocking continentals for good now
Hell yes!!! I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks that! I’m so hooked on these tires. Continental hit a home run with these new line !

Yes!!! Thank you!! 🙏 I’d love if continental reached out to me 🙌🍻
Still a Schwalbe fan for MTB main tyres but also run a set of gravel specific tyres on narrower rims on the hardtail.
I’ve ran the old continental xking and mountain king. They feel nothing like these new gravity line of tire.
My current setup is DHF front and Dissector rear. Are you telling me that this setup is faster? If so then I will switch over due to my tires being worn out. Also do these pump up to a true 2.4 ?
100% faster then that setup! Not a doubt in my mind bro! And yes they are a true 2.4 maybe just a hair wider! 🍻

I agree with you 100%. These tires are lively. Have grip great sidewall protection. And
Yet the rolling speed is amazing. Your pressure can be lowered For different terrain like roots. Other obstacles because of the side wall strength.

100% mate. I used to ride a hardtail a couple years back and Maxxis tyres were not an option. Either punctures all the time, or sidewall slashes. Switched to Conti and have used the same tyres now for over a year and not even one puncture or burp.

Current favorite for Colorado on my Tallboy 4:
Forekaster exo+ rear
DHR2 exo front
What would the analogous Conti setup be?
I would go krypto Re as a front tire (very similar to dhr2) with xynotal rear. That setup will destroy on a short travel trail rig!
Enduro soft up front for more grip. But the trail endurance will probably be ample traction. But can’t go wrong either way!
Sweet dude thanks for the intel. Maybe will give them a try when these are worn. I like the exo+ casing for support but don't need super tacky rubber rear so I like Maxx Terra for durability and rolling. Seems that'd be analogous to enduro casing / endurance compound, which I'm not sure Conti offers

Great to get your long term usage feedback for these tyres. Can you please remind me the wheel size and travel for that bike as well as the type of trail surface you usually ride?
Hey Ben! I’m on a scor 4060 , 29er 140/150 travel. Here in Idaho it’s loose, sandy and hard pack conditions
I've been hearing good things about Continentals. What do you think is comparable to a Forekaster?
Xynotal for sure
Oh you crack me up I remember the day I tried other tires that was the same day I realize I’m only using Maxxas. 😂

I agree with the endurance compound, but even the soft has lots of grip, never mind the super soft. What compound were you running?
@@JulianKent I used endurance compound which was sorta marketed as exo competition but it’s more like dual compound. Last forever and lacks grip. If we see the lighter casing with soft compound then I’ll maybe give continental a try again but was very not impressed with endurance casing. @@MillerRL96 there are 2 things, the casing and the compound. Right now they are paired directly with trail and endurance, which I think is a bit dumb. Hopefully in future they will give tyres with the trail casing and soft compound, for people who don't have so many sharp rocks but still need the grip. But in the mean time try the enduro/soft combination, it is way better in the wetthan the endurance.

I’ve have them on since launch. I still have almost full tread. Last super long. I ride a lot too.
The wear on these tires is truly impressive!
Do you Still use cushcore on that setup?
I do want to try the Argotal. That tire looks badass!
I'm leaning towards the DD just for the fact that it seems more "bulletproof". Thank you in advance 🍻🙏🏽🤘🏽
Can you do a long term review on the galfer rotors?
Yeah! Might be in a short but I will 🍻
Thx!
And you have kept that bike for a while. Must really like it
Dude I know right. Bike is amazing! I love my Scor
Thanks dude! I agree the new Michelins look really good
The tires ‘i currently cant take off are Schwalbe racing Rays on the front with the new racing Ralph out back, light and super fast 💨
Oh wow, that’s a killer deal! I don’t blame you there
Am I missing something... does Conti not offer the Krypto front in a trail/soft?
Ah were have you been i have missed the tyre arguments i regularly think of you when out riding and sliding the front into corners and saying to myself its not a motocycle ha ha greetings from down under bro .
Hahah yes bro! 🙌🍻
Try some Conti's
I’m thinking about running this combo on my Giant trance but I was worried that the front Rekon would be sketchy on downhill stuff.
Hey man, how would you compare the trail casing to maxxis? Is it like a exo, or more like exo+ ?
Yeah man! I’m 100% sold!! Won’t be going back to maxxis anytime soon
Is the Kryptotal / Xynotal as fast as Dissector / Rekon ?
Lol I think you answered my question in the video 🤣
Conti’s are much faster
@@wd99999 I did 😂😂🍻
2 Continental Race King tires have a wobble, while Maxxis Ardent are really good tires!
Yeah man those old race kings had wobble issues! These new tires from conti are far better 🙌🍻
@@dustinbjohnson
I hope so 😅
Having 2 tires with exactly the same problems, not a good selling point for the brand! And we can't all afford that high end Black Chilly stuff 😌
Greetings from Kris 😎
I’m in between trying new Schwalbes and any other brand for my replacements on my new Epic EVO. The stock Ground Control T7’s ride soft and supple, but the grip sucks big time, scrubbing in corners and they are quite unpredictable too. I can’t wait to dump those tires!
Hi, can I have some tires so I can put on my Marin Bolinas Ridge 2?
If you live in the south like Texas or Florida somewhere with rolling terrain just stick with the endurance. I had this set up in the endurance casing trail compound and he’s right they literally felt like XE tires on the rolling speed side of things.
Thanks homie! 🍻
Understandably reviews are done with brand new rubber..however
I’ve found Conti really wins big when you compare after miles have been logged.
Maxxis side knobs chunk-off or detach from casing whereas Conti’s just wear “normally”
DHF being the worst of all as stipped knobs decenergrate almost immediately.
Liked and subbed broch !
Thanks dude!! I forgot to talk about that. It’s crazy how maxxis tires literally just fall apart. I can’t believe how well these tires wear for how much grip they have!
@@dustinbjohnson
Yup
BTW Corona is better than no beer
@@denisrogers4358 I mean hey… if it’s good enough for Dominic Toretto… it’s good enough for me 🤣
Maxxis Rekon for mild SoCal trail riding in dry/loose conditions work great
And the Conti Argotals would likely be great for gnarly loose/dusty SoCal conditions when you get onto the rowdy trails there.
@@mrvwbug4423 Oh I’m no enduro bro lol, I’m on a shorter travel trail bike, don’t want to sacrifice rolling resistance for increased grip on trails that my travel numbers would struggle on. Kryptotals with a trail casing would be a great choice
Yeah but do they have the Maxxis wobble?
😂😂 so far so good 🤞
RAD! I wanted to try them too, I hope one day you could try to new michelin ones, but Im afraid their weight will scare you haha...
I also notice, you are using shimano brakes now instead of magura.
Was hoping no one would notice the brakes 🫣😂 I’ll update soon
Just ordered a set for my ride
Yessss 🙌
Looking forward to trying these out!
try Butcher T9 front with Kryptotal Re Soft Rear !
What do you think rolls faster on the rear? Dissector MaxTerra Exo+ or Xynotal Soft Enduro?
That Tribal and co shirt tho.. 👌👌👌
Tribal!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Ran Kryptotal Fr/Re trail endurance on my Fuel Ex, got 2 punctures on the Rear after like 18 miles.. . Might have been bad luck but I also think I destroyed the casing because I can´t get it to stop wobble afterwards.
Liked them otherwise, switched to a Xynotal enduro soft in rear instead and I´m very happy so far
Might switch for a Kryptotal enduro in front also.
Dont feel draggy and even done some PBs with the Xynos
(Doing trail, some enduro races and park days)
Swapped my Krypto / Xyno trail casing on my new set of wheels and now both have wobbles : ( bummed because they've been so good on the big rig (krypto FR/RE DH)
I’m hoping I don’t get any wobbles with these tires because I love them so much 🙏
