    Great video. Thank you. Love to see some videos of or instructions of home made tools you have made ie the roller. My husband has a lathe and mill and welder and very handy.

      Thank you Melly, I do have other videos showing how to build the cabbing and polishing machines, you also can see in one of my videos the Hydraulic Press I built, however, I didn’t make a video on that because of liability issues if someone builds it the wrong way, they could injure themselves and if your husband is a welder I’m sure he will understand that. Again thank you for watching my videos.

    is it important that the scotch brite is the non scratch version?

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  8 месяцев назад +1

      The Scotch Brite I use is the one that used to clean pans and dishes and you can get it from anywhere, I’m not sure about the scratch version but I don’t think it will matter much.

    Do you know if alumina ceramic is as good as the manufactured corundum as a burnishing tool? Nice video instruction.

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  4 года назад +1

      gordo seven, in order to burnish copper you’ll need a harder material than copper, alumina ceramic and/or man made corundum will do the job as long as you don’t scratch or damage the surface of the lap you should be okay.

    Thank you for your nice information.
    I have some questions.
    1. Can i use a Sapphire instead of Corundum?
    2. How often do you need to load diamonds after this first application to the copper disk?
    3. Do u use water while you burnishing gems?
    Thanks.

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  Месяц назад +1

      Yes you can use Sapphire, you also can use hard agate.
      Once you notice the cutting or polishing is not fast enough you can add a little bit, not too much like the first time.
      No I don’t use water, your diamond powder is already mixed with oil and that’s enough, if it gets dry you can add a bit more oil.
      Thanks for watching my videos!

      @ElieGhanimeEG  Год назад +1

      Para el desbaste utilizo 100 y 260, luego empiezo a cortar con 600, 1200, 3000 y luego pulo con óxido de cerio.

    Thank you…very informative! I know it is a subjective question, but approximately how long does the charge last before having to re-apply? So for say a 8000k pre polish, how many stones of around a carat size would I expect to be able to polish? Regards…

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  7 месяцев назад

      Like I mentioned any hard stone will work or you can use a roller bearing if you have one, don’t use soft stones because you will be grinding the stone at the same time and you don’t want that. Thank you for watching my videos!!

    sorry 1 more questions ahah, I just received my copper lap and did what you said, it works very well, I used 220 grit for preforming, I can't believe how fast it's eating the stone.
    Since we are not running water on it how do we manage swarf? should I run a paper towel on the lap after every facet? the grit being big it's shredding the paper towell and grabbing some all over.

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  8 месяцев назад +1

      I’m glad it worked for you, but way you’re not using the water drip? You have to use it in order to keep the lap clean, the other way you can do is use a wet sponge over the lap and clamped on the side so it stays in place, however, I like the water drip better. Good luck!

      @@ElieGhanimeEG oh, I will then, I was under the impression that using the water drip with diamond powder/paste was forbidden, thanks

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  8 месяцев назад

      I didn’t know you’re using diamond paste, I thought you’re using diamond powder which is permanent on the surface, then you’ll need to use water drip, if you’re using diamond paste then you need to clean the stones not the lap with a paper towel, make sure you don’t use the same paper on another diamond grit and when you’re changing grits make sure you wash the stone with alcohol.

  • @rcmoot

    What stones do you polish on tbe copper lap? Are you using both sides with different diamond?

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  9 месяцев назад

      I use the copper lap only for faceting, you can divide the surface into two sections and use two different grits of diamonds, make sure there’s no contamination when changing from one surface to the other by washing the stone first.

    What machine do you use I’m trying to find a cheap one?

    • @ElieGhanimeEG
      @ElieGhanimeEG  Год назад +1

      I have 7 different machines in order to create a video on how to setup each one properly and then how to use them. For you the cheapest one would be an old Grave machine and that would be about $1,200.00 give and take. Try to find one on Facebook or join the Faceting Finds group and ask them if they have any for sale. Good luck.

    • @ElieGhanimeEG

      Con la placa de cobre uso esmalte de diamante, cuanto mayor sea la arena de diamante, mejor será el pulido. No puedes cambiar la arena de diamante una vez que la añades a la placa de cobre.
