I personally love the Hildebrandt Brothers Marvel Masterpieces 94. I love them since their works on Tolkien and The 94 X-Men Limited Edition Subsets! Here, I was spoiled thanks to Wizards coverage of the brothers paintings ( There was even a shot of them working on a behind the scenes illustration of psylocke!) and even Kay Bee Toys selling sealed boxes at $20 a box! I was instantly in love, and considering i was learning terms and tricks with artists, i appreciated the artists notes on the back of each card! Also, this help me continue collecting as they featured Signature Cards of every single card, including the checklist, that I am still looking for to this day( these were treated like the earliest 1st editions before Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh)! Even Walmart packs had a variants with their Halofoil rare cards, where the border would be red, gold, or as it's called 'rainbow' in collector magazines, instead of silver.
As a kid I was very impressed at how real they werea ble to make the characters look. All the Marvel Masterpiece cards inspired me to attempt painting. I love their use of colors. Great sense of energy from each image.
The Hildebrandt brothers are masters at lighting. This is an amazing set that featured some amazing cards. It was awesome that you got Powerblast, Holofoil, and signatures cards in this set. I'm trying to complete both PSA amd CGC Gem Mint 10 sets.
This is excellent. Ty. So much great art. I recall one of your earlier videos when you had a whole set of comic cards mounted and framed... reminds me of the Vallejo Bell Titans art book - sick!
I wasn't disappointed in the 94s but I do remember not loving them like the 93s. But totally agree with you about seeing realistic versions of these characters. It's like we were getting a sneak peek into what the movies would be like 20 years later. One thing I love about these old sets is how collectible they are. These days there are SOOOO many inserts and chase sets, it makes me not want to even buy them because I know I can never have them all.
You need definitely take them of the plastic cover and show us each, there were so many gems which we missed when you showed only whole page, like black panther. Absolutely love those pieces.
These comic card vids u been doin lately have been hittn the spot, my dude! They tell the story of my youth and really bring me back! Not the most valuable collectibles on the market yet sooo valuable in my heart. Thx Gem! Keep em comin
Umm this was my favorite series. I grew up during most of the 90’s. I appreciated these cards immediately. I probably never stopped appreciating them 😂
Since 2023 Nov (I think) Marvel comics has started pushing out variant covers for various comic lines using this very set artwork from the Hildebrandt brothers. So far I've only seen just over 30 of the artwork used, I'm hoping they are not stopping until all artwork has been reproduced as variant covers...I haven't seen any news about any new covers after Blade. This was the very first set of Marvel cards I ever collected as a kid when it first released. I remember packs were being sold at the dollar store - because it was so overly produced, I was able to pay $1 for 10 packs. Basically used $10 and got 100 packs of this set. Loved everything about it.
The masterpiece cards and the X-men animated series were my first introduction to comics. I will always remember the first time I saw these cards in elementary school when another kid brought in his collection. I was blown away and thought they looked incredible. I never had a full set, but a mix of the different sets. Getting a full set to frame would be dope.
These were the first comic cards I ever bought. A friend of mine turned me on to them. I ended up selling them years ago. Wish I would've held onto them now. That Spider-Man card in the base is dope.
The best Marvel card set ever. It would be so cool if Greg, the remaining living brother, did a few Marvel characters that were not featured in this set.
My short run into comic cards was the 92 MM, 93 MM, 94 MM, and the 94 xmen fleer ultra… 6/7th grade… always remember how much better the jusko cards were and how much i was kinda disappointed with the follow up series even back then bc 90% of the other artists just couldnt compare. His art really embodied the “masterpiece” moniker.
If you take the 1993 Masterpieces Human Torch, Captain America and Namor cards and put them together in that order, its an homage to those three heroes that fought alongside each other in WW2. That version of the Torch is not Johnny Storm (as you probably know)
What modern artist would you want to see do a complete Marvel Set of cards? I could see maybe a set by Johnny Desjardins with chase cards by Peach Momoko.
I’ve got stacks of uncut sheets of marvel cards somewhere. I gotta dig those up. It might be this series. I can’t remember. I’m not even sure I still have them, it’s been so long since I’ve seen them.
I appreciate you show casing these great cards! Damn that's a Gem Mint Collection bro! I'd love to complete my set but the buy-in for sealed boxes is pretty rough ($500-$600)-- I'm too stubborn to buy used T.T maybe someday though.
just in the last few months I’ve been putting together some card series for the early 90s. That’s one of the last series I just finished putting together
Noooooo! The Brothers Hildebrandt were my favorite set. I like the Jusko set, and skipped the 93 set, so I never knew they didn't use a single artist like 92 and 94.
I totally arranged my powerblast sets backwards then! I thought the back was the front and the shiny foil was the back. It was how I naturally thought it went when I was a kid. Weird realization finding out I had it backwards.
Same man, 92 was the goat set, and I slept on these but they’re pretty nice. Might pick em up. I just got the surfer vs thanos from 92 and been hunting venom vs spidey to finally complete my busted ass set after 30 years.
I always preferred Flair 94 and 95 over the 90s Masterpieces. But i do love the Masterpieces Signature series cards, The Gold sigs looked great on the cards. The most frustrating part about this set is the the Holofoil set. The Silvers (you have in the pic) back in standard boxes but back in the 90s we didn't have the internet to know about the other variants. Gold Holofoils- Jumbo Boxes only, Bronze Holofoils- Walmart only and Red Holofoils which i don't even know what store had them.. I'm complete on every 90s Marvel card set to date except for this one. I have all the Silvers but The Red and Golds are a fortune on ebay. so annoying
I got these for free at a video store I worked at. For some reason they were told not to put them in the inventory and just throw them away, but my manager asked if anyone wanted them.
This was a huge step up from the 93 set. Way more cohesive look, there were some artists in that 93 run that weren't top choices for the assignment. Hildebrandt's really crushed this set. How much longer we have to wait for the Jusko kickstarter book though?
Marvel Universe (encyclopedia) comics, did the same thing for me, as the cards did for you! When I saw a cool hero or villian, i wanted to know 1st app, powers, poss. Death... I have 1 set, dont know which one 😂
Hi, I just got this set from a garage sale only abt 88 cards, are they hard to collect individually? I'm interested to get the remaining cards in the set
Dude you're making me want to get out my collections and fill in the few [very expensive] holes I have. This is my collection, but there's always room for more. Gem you went to Deerfield Mall ? In Illinois? Didn’t realize that -would show there all the time in the 90’s when I started selling Comics and Toys - did that from 91-2005 -
A good colorist is more important on card's and who knows the best way to enhance and make artists work pop. Unlike a comic there is know story that can sometimes overcome bad pencils or color's.
I think its time to commission several new sets of Marvel Masterpiece card series. I'd like a set by Alex Ross, Ariel Olivetti, and Phil Noto. Any other artists known for their painting that should be considered? Any painters outside of the comic book industry. If we could reanimate Frank Frazetta...
Was there ever an official binder released for any of the Marvel Masterpieces sets like there was for the Marvel Universe series 1-3? Are you going to review the 2016 set by Joe Jusko?
93 were koo but the 94 were kind of plain the same artist was meh . jusko did the whole first set & they were koo but you can definetly tell he phoned it in on some & went all out on others.. that wolverine was on every comic shop back then & looked wicked
ATTENTION ATTENTION. I had to let you know Hobby Lobby has a canvas print of 92 Masterpiece Spiderman Card. I keep looking on line to see if there are anymore but no luck. I think brand Is Home Spring it's there in house brand.
Thumbs down! Kidding, but I did love the '94 set. I loved the Hildebrandt brother's artwork back then. Tim passed, unfortunately. I got a Red Sonja prelim sketch from a cover Greg did a few years ago.
The 94 set is very solid. I loved the art on these growing up
Consider making these a series of videos where you take every card out and go over every set. Man that would be absolutely amazing to me
👇 If he nailed that Galactus voice!
🫡
@@GemMintCollectibles I was like damn... Cast this man for a movie! Got that trailer voice for sure! "In a world...." 😂🤣

Definitively my favorite card set of all time, the ROGUE is my favorite trading card of all time I have many of these in the gold sig series also
This is awesome, it’s great that your giving us a look at these amazing sets
As a kid I was very impressed at how real they werea ble to make the characters look. All the Marvel Masterpiece cards inspired me to attempt painting. I love their use of colors. Great sense of energy from each image.
94 Marvel was my introduction to trading cards. Thanks for sharing!
Man, what a flashback. Reminds me of great times at the comic shop.
Every set you show I personally love, beautiful art on all of them!
I hope there will be more Marvel Masterpieces Set videos.
@@jgmshadowgames it was a card collection that introduced me to marvel
Broski, this video made me dig out my '94 set. Damn, they're beautiful!
My favorite was 1995 masterpieces
The Hildebrandt brothers are masters at lighting. This is an amazing set that featured some amazing cards. It was awesome that you got Powerblast, Holofoil, and signatures cards in this set. I'm trying to complete both PSA amd CGC Gem Mint 10 sets.
The shehulk and spider women cards are fire 🔥

That’s how I feel about modern runs too
You need definitely take them of the plastic cover and show us each, there were so many gems which we missed when you showed only whole page, like black panther.
Absolutely love those pieces.
I love the 94 set. I have an incomplete set so was good to see all the cards in full. Love these videos
You’re crazy. I love the 1994 masterpieces.

They did variants from the 92 art as well
That's interesting, I remember being a kid and thinking how much better the art style was in the 94 set than the 92.
My favorite set of cards, love these!
The masterpiece cards and the X-men animated series were my first introduction to comics. I will always remember the first time I saw these cards in elementary school when another kid brought in his collection. I was blown away and thought they looked incredible. The golden signature series make these look even better
Hildebrandt Brothers have Hulk strapped up!
Gemmmmm.... Comic cards are also what really made me dive deeper into comic books.
This was the set that started my hobby of collecting cards. Back then cards were affordable but these days you need to take out a mortgage lol.
Captain Universe and that Cyclops is what I remember from comic ads
Loved this card set
This wasn't my favorite set, I sold a lot of them when I had my store back then. Thanks for sharing all the best cheers from Canada!
I absolutely love this set. Still have it from my childhood. Also, the 1992 set with the Spider-Man poster promoting the set. I need to get it framed.
I have that Spidey poster framed!

I didn’t realize during the video, but others have commented that. The android torch!
The 92 Marvel Universe series are the ones that really got me into trading cards. Has a special place in my nostalgia box.
Loved vol 1-3 of those
What modern artist would you want to see do a complete Marvel Set of cards? I could see maybe a set by Johnny Desjardins with chase cards by Peach Momoko.
Tyler Kirkham
I’ve got stacks of uncut sheets of marvel cards somewhere. I gotta dig those up. It might be this series.
I can’t remember. I’m not even sure I still have them, it’s been so long since I’ve seen them.
Nothing beats 93 for me, but art hits everyone differently.
I take the time to give a thumb up on each of your video! You’re the man! Have a great day! :)
Appreciate it!
That Spider-Man card is nice.
It’s seems once they remove the boarders around the art it was never the same
I appreciate you show casing these great cards! Damn that's a Gem Mint Collection bro!

i still have this set from when i was a kid
“What a beautiful beast.” I see what you did there lol.
I was 12 too when I started with these cards turn 13 that summer . Interesting we could of went to school together
Rest in Peace Greg Hildebrandt ✊

Great video Gem. I hope you get your hands on the Spiderman cards that are from the 90’s.
That Colossus outfit was from his acolyte days post-fatal attractions, when he left the x-men
I lol'd at Blackaboltian Guardian
I remember at 8 years old thinking the '92 set was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.
Still is

can you make a video about the rarities. I have for example the iron man gold PSA 10, but hard to find how hard to pull it was. greets from Germany
Nice artwork! Especially for 94?
A good colorist is more important on card's and who knows the best way to enhance and make artists work pop. Unlike a comic there is know story that can sometimes overcome bad pencils or color's.
My dad bought a lot of those back in the day
I was about to turn into a werewolf with how many full moons are on that black cat card 😅
😂
What do you think about the 93 marvel impel set? Thought the set was awesome.
The get Ross to do a lot of covers… let’s get a dedicated set already
Great video Gem! Pls do more card reviews. Did you ever play MTG?
I never got into that. I tried to buy a starter pack in the 90’s… but just didn’t understand the game
They finally did more with shatter star.......they threw him into some helicopter blades. 😂
Hey GemMint, i just bought a bunch of Marvel Metal cards from i think '95. Have you seen or heard if those? I dont know much about them
I have seen them, but never owned a set
Now do one for a really ugly Marvel set. Marvel Universe series 4 from 1993 gets my vote.
Was there ever an official binder released for any of the Marvel Masterpieces sets like there was for the Marvel Universe series 1-3?
Are you going to review the 2016 set by Joe Jusko?
Not sure on the binders. Unfortunately I don’t have the 2018 set. I did go over the hardcover art book a week or so ago
@@GemMintCollectibles Are you considering tracking down Jusko's more recent Masterpieces as a card set?

You know what, I was actually thinking 94 fleer ultra and not the masterpieces. Would love to see your take on thag
😮💨
92 was the best
Didn't the Kuberts also do some of the masterpiece cards?
Not from 92-96, not sure if they did any from later sets

do they still make marvel masterpieces? who did the 2024 set?
They do. I think 2022 was the latest if I’m not mistaken
