This week we are turning my all time favourite Christmas movie into CAKE! The Grinch who stole Christmas! I love this movie and all of its versions, especially the last one. Christmas isn’t Christmas without watching The Grinch while wrapping up gifts for my family & friends.
I decided to make this cake the easy way! Instead of carving a complicated design we are simply using square cakes to shape the Grinch and his Santa hat! This cake is done all in buttercream icing, no fondant here!

Awesome. My granddaughter wants a Grinch Birthday cake.
I attempted to make this for my son's birthday today. I had fails all over the place. I think it was probably just too hot in my kitchen so the paper towel trick did not work for me. And I couldn't get the color right....but it was my very first attempt decorating a cake and he's for so I don't think he'll care lol. You just make it look so effortless easy it's amazing!!!

Best Grinch cake I've seen !

Merry Christmas Laurie. I love your videos so much there amazing. I am 12 years old and I love to bake and decorate them. My all time favourite RUclipsr. When I bake and decorate the cakes I use all your brilliant technique to help me. My all time favourite video is the one where you carved the snowflakes in the icing with the clay tools. I have made all the mini cakes you have mad we. I have also made your hot chocolate make the one with marshmallows inside and I crumb coated it and I also you a paper towel to smooth the icing. I also house all your piping techniques to pipe my icing on my cake. I love you so much laurie. You are such an inspiration to me and your videos. LOL!!! His nose and mouth area is called his muzzle. You 2 are cute. HAHAHAHA!!! I love Your Grinch and may try to make Him. Your's is SOOOOO AWESOME that it is kind of intimidating but I may still try it, anyway. If it doesn't turn out well; I can always just eat Him with My Hunny, Our Son and Grandkids; right?!

What kind of cake mix did you use or did you make your own cake? Did you also make your own buttercream as well? I’m trying to make this with Betty Crocker mix and icing.. was curious to how much of those it would take for this?

Thank you so much for this video! I made one for my daughter and all the color guard kids who are practicing during winter break!! They all loved it! I just had a bit of a problem with the whole paper towel thing....the buttercream kept sticking to the paper towel. I would post a picture but not sure how too :)

So sorry you had a hard time with the paper towel, it sounds like your icing was a bit to soft I would recommend making it with less water to try stiffening it up a bit or letting your icing crust for about 20 seconds then paper toweling it. Awesome idea!! I have follow your cakes for a while (made cheeky chocolate for my daughter birthday everyone loved it) and now I would like to do this one but I have a quick question I tried to paper towel but didn't work lol the icing got stuck on it. Any suggestions? Thank you
Hey thats awesome! I'm so glad you made the Cheeky Chocolate cake and are going to give this one a go :) For the paper towel I would lower the water content a bit so the icing isn't to soft. That should help. You can also let the icing crust for like 20 seconds then paper towel it. :)

I made two and a half batches of icing. I dyed about 1 cup red, left 1/2 cup white, 1/4 cup black and just a little yellow. I dyed the remaining icing green :)
