- Nurnberger Symphoniker - Conductor Kachun Wong
Sergei Nakariakov - Flugelhorn/trumpet
1st piece : Rococo variations by Tchaikovsky
2nd piece (@ 19:46) Carnaval de Venice by Arban
I remember when I was a conservatory student (classical saxophone) and hearing him play; I was blown away by his incredible virtuosity and the beautiful sound he gets out of his instruments.
Inspired me a lot and especially his reworkings of cello repertoire (like Rococo variations) played on the beautiful sounding Flugelhorn (comes closer to the sound of saxophone than trumpet;-).
There are great trumpet/cornet players (Hardenberger, Marsalis, Roger Webster, Friedrich etc..) but what Nakariakov did/does is waaay beyond what was done before he arrived; he's a leader in a field of one.
His performances in this clip were taken from a concert given by the Nürnberger Symphoniker in 2019 with him making a special appearance.
The motto of this concert was "Europe across all borders", music from different parts of the world with the main piece being Mussorgsky's "Pictures from an exhibition"; the orchestra is in great form (!) but the main pieces I was interest in sharing here at youtube were the 2 pieces with the trumpet master virtuoso Nakariakov.
If you want to see the whole concert;

There are uploads of concerts in which he plays the very pieces he plays here but this concert captured a very good sound (thanks people at Bayerischer Rundfunk/sat3!) and subjective as it is, I dare say that this is one of his better performances. I found his intonation and articulation incredibly striking and his overall musicality satisfying.
Disclaimer: I don't own the rights of these recordings and I hope that Bayerischer Rundfunk will allow this clip to exist here on youtube so we can enjoy this great performance.
This is a fantastic performance of Nakariakov and the Nürnberger Symphoniker.....but was fascinated me most....
many thousands of people still want to hear classical music, as you can see in the audience....thank you for posting.
His dynamic control of the flugelhorn is just amazing.
Best flugelhorn performance i‘ve ever seen. When there is anything near perfection, it‘s his playing.
4 things make playing these transcribed works feasible on flugelhorn; the 4th valve, circular breathing, his absolute mastery of every technical aspect and his wonderful musicality. Enjoy, because these performances will never be equalled.
Nakariakov is one of the greatest trumpeters in the world, his sweet way of playing with that enveloping sound reaches into the soul, and then he also has an incredible technique and speed that only hard study combined with his great talent make him a true example for those who play this wonderful instrument. thanks for posting this concert 😊
Love the conductor. Very respectful of the soloist, letting him be the focus of attention. And of course. Sergei is Sergei. Wonderful performance by all!
Beautiful, I've been listening to Nakariakov for a long time, but I think this performance is really outstanding even for his (incredibly high) standards. He plays so freely and effortlessy, concealing the extreme technical difficulties of the pieces, so making a great joy to listen.
It's hard to beleive this is an outside concert. It sounds like it's in a studio.
👉My most favorite performance of Sergei, yet. Thank you❕👈
With a tear in my eye, I wish I could find the words.
Bravo!!!! énorme, tu nous régales Sergeï .
Truly amazing
The best in all time history
❤
Piango per la felicitazione.
Bravura che non trova limiti a definizioni.

Can't you hear his outstanding musicality? Do you only hear technique? Well, you can only hear technique because you don't have musicality.
It’s just so tasteful.

That TRIPLE TONGUING /// /// ///
is easily, THE MOST, 3rd. from the end interestingly enough, DIFFICULT/STAMINA-REQUIRING passages in ALL of the brass repertoire.

Notice how the audience claps...acknowledging this difficulty and fact, being music-people of knowledge.
Not bad technic but the sound and the way Nakariakov holds the trumpet down are not even close to master-virtuoso Timofey Dokschitzer...Sorry!
