I think history and southern pride is important. You can't change history. You can't change the fact that there were good people on both sides. Great men who marched valiantly into cannon and gun fire for their state, families, and personal honor. The Civil War is overshadowed by slavery when there were other causes involved. One major of which was state rights; not letting the federal government have too much power (look where that got us now). Considering Slavery wasn't even brought up in the Civil War until a year after it started & the North still had over 500,000 Slaves & the Saint Andrews Cross/Confederate Battle Flag was only a flag used during Battle the fact is it has nothing to do with Slavery. Slavery existed under every flag Americas flown & its also existed under many Nations Flags but Flags are inanimate objects & in the case of the American & Confederate Flags they represent the States & Colonies that were united. The Confederate Flag is really a Christian Symbol the Saint Andrew's Cross which is used by many European Nations. Even if these flags did mean what they claimed it would still be people's Constitutional Right to to fly them.
You’re sharing white supremacy disinformation. The north had 84,000 slaves. The south had nearly 4 million slaves. The south brought up slavery immediately at the beginning of the war: In his March 21, 1861, Cornerstone Speech, Confederate Vice President Alexander H. Stephens presents what he believes are the reasons for what he termed a "revolution." “[The Founding Fathers] rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error.… Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, and its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the [black man] is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.”
That's false. It's the first line the articles for declaration of war submitted by the south. The right to hold slaves. States rights was the rights to hold slaves.

I'm not even white (mixed), yet I support your ability to speak freely and express yourself in anyway, whether it is morally right or wrong. Heritage, not hate.
I guess I just don’t see how the pride of heritage isnt stained by the blood and atrocities that slaves went through. You sure can say fly the flag but If youre flying it and use it to represent heritage you misunderstanding all the hate that is also flying along side it. Fighting primarily for slaves rights and auxiliaries of slaves rights is not something I could see myself being proud, even if you cut around the naughty bits and downplay racisms role, its still entirely spawned through hate and I dont feel that’s something worth supporting.
@@ShpeeCrabDeDerp but that is your opinion. you’re trying to make it seem like the confederate flag has some type of spiritual connection with hatred or something, just shut your mouth and cry or something. go outside and make friends.
Couldn’t say it better myself
sure, be proud of your "heritage" but know that it was based on slavery and slavery is wrong, as racism is now. If you can go with that, then good. I will also be proud of my heritage that my ancestors fought in the American Revolution and that others marched with Sherman to the sea.
@@oldrrocr agreed.. slavery is an unjustified institution. But it’s important to note that Lincoln and the Union wasn’t fighting to end slavery. For example when the E.P was passed in 1863 there are writings of Union soldiers deserting the army and moving to Canada quoting “I joined the Union to restore the Union and not to free some damn n**ggr.”
I have some ancestors who fought in the revolutionary war which I am very proud of as well. One of my ancestors was Col. Thomas Terry

Thousands of blacks fought for the Confederacy like black Confederate sailor David White from CSS Alabama, Cuban Woman Loretta Velasquez dressed as a man to fight for the Confederacy, Cherokee and Choctaw tribes fought for the Confederacy. The last Confederate General to stop fighting was Cherokee General Stand Watie. 10,000 Jews fought for the Confederacy, like Moses Ezekiel. 13,000 Hispanics and 3,000 Mexican-Texans fought for the Confederacy as well, like Santos Benavides. He’s got excellent points. It’s true that most people that fly the confederate flag aren’t flying it for support of slavery, but for heritage and history. A lot of confederate soldiers that fought weren’t fighting for slavery, most never did and would never own a slave. When the Union soldiers captured a confederate soldier they asked him “why are you fighting? You don’t own any slaves.” He replied with “I’m fighting because you are down here.” A lot of it was simply defending their home states and southern heritage, the Union did invade the south.
Don't forget that Confederate forces attacked the U.S. Fort Sumter in South Carolina first, starting the war in April 1861.
Don't forget Lincoln supplied Fort Sumtner despite warnings from Confederate generals not too. As it would be seen as an act of war. He did it anyway. Why? Because he wanted the war.@@claytondavis2866

Your comment is stupid. The president wants to keep the statues to preserve history. I don't see how he's giving privelige to statues instead of people.
You change history, trump don’t want to change history
The south brought up slavery immediately at the beginning of the war:
In his March 21, 1861, Cornerstone Speech, Confederate Vice President Alexander H. Stephens presents what he believes are the reasons for what he termed a "revolution."
“[The Founding Fathers] rested upon the assumption of the equality of races.
A symbol of culture. Heritage not hate
