Been wearing my USGI Woodland boonie for a while now and while I love it, it does trap heat. So I purchased the Flecktarn boonie from UF Pro, I mainly bought it for the ventilation and camo being that I'm as US/Germany dual citizen.

Dose that mesh stop UV from the sun burning your head? I'm thinking of a desert environment with a bold head? Also what about in the tropics, heavy rainfall. I know it will wet out but will that mess simply be as if you had no hat on at all.
I was hunting around for a better quality Boonie hat. I came across this and loved the look of it but quickly disregarded it because I am in Vancouver BC. That means working outside in the mild winter but rain, all day every day. I know this type of gear is hot weather generally and I could very obviously see this is very much that. Still, Boonies are just something I've used forever in my system. With WR treatment they're good. Someone in a group from a Winnipeg store said he had them so I bought one anyhow. Summer dress for sure but damn. It is super nice. I've not had much use yet so only my first impressions. Of course the first day I got it the rain was pouring but I wore it. Not the worst for rain. The wire for shaping is a game changer in my opinion. It fixes what is an annoyance with most others. Also, the drawcord system works terrific. I don't know how the mesh will do with hard use over time. It is very lightweight material but I get that is part of the premise of this overall light hat. It just has the feel and the way it wears like actual thought was put into it. Maybe someone even listened to the end users or use one themselves. It is a pretty sigificant step up from brands like Propper or Tru-Spec. Nothing against them.The UF Pro is immediately recognizable as work use, not the airsoft feild. I got something else for the winter but this will absolutely be a favorite in summer. It was 120F here last year!
the brim wire is really an upgrade, but mesh on the top is just a no, even traditional boonies put the vents on the side at least.

I like the look of the low profile of the boonie.Also better than baseball caps for sun protection and the multi-cam print is different than solid color. This is my first boonie ever. And won't be the last.

I agree with that. The uv's are not to be taken lightly, I'm recovering from skin cancer because I didn't take the necessary steps to protect myself.

When he was folding the back, it didn't keep shape he had to bend it about 3 yes and it went limp, is the back malleable too? Or just the front?

Hey there! The Striker Gen. 2 Boonie hat is primarily designed for sun protection, with the vents providing extra ventilation. For rain protection, we recommend one of our jackets that features a waterproof 3-layer laminate hood. This combo will keep you dry and comfortable. 🌦️🧢💧

Thanks for the question. Striker Boonie Hat Gen. 2 does not have waterproof properties sorry about that, but however, the composition of the fabrics allows for extremely fast drying 😎🤙

The different needs of our customers make it almost impossible to offer just one size, although this could be a great solution.
This is nice, but I can just sew up a propper boonie like Grand Thumb did for about 20 bucks.
First UfPro i dont like. Other company made it better. Defcon5 made nearly the same hat but their hats have a flap with 2 velcro sites , with which you can close the ventilation mesh in case its rainy/stormy.
For a company based in Europe this seems like a big oversight, thanks for the comment, I went with the defcon5 gear 😀. Seems better thought out.

@Alex Marian as we thing the cap fits more nicely to this outfit and the boonie in black would be too hot in summer.
@@ufprogear I was thinking about the police use of this. In my country, most of the special police officers wear UF Pro gear (black), so I tought a full outfit would de nice. Thank you for the reply and explination !!
