RM is a poet and is deeply into philosophy & reading about the human condition. He’s a wordsmith who can pun and wordplay in three languages Korean, English & Japanese.

There's also a common ARMY saying that when it comes to music, Suga will punch you in the teeth, j-hope will help you collect the teeth that fell out while RM will tell you why you were destined to lose them.

@@JanB-qm2bi i do know that. What i ment is that, with bts, bighit saw that in a group it's better if the leader and the eldest are two different people because they saw that RM could rely on for example Jin and viceversa. This is just a theory going around, and i would think that being fit for the role is the main characteristic that they consider when choosing.

This song is from his 2018 playlist mono. According to RM himself mono is a reflection of RM from 2016 to 2018.
About forever rain he said ,"I feel that there can’t be another song that is more like me than this song. I have strong feelings attached to this song and I love it so much that I want it played at my funeral."
2016 to 2018 was a time when bts rose immensly in popularity worldwide and at the same time facec brutal attacks from ants, harsh unwarranted criticisms which kept piling on leading to the members doubting if they were strong enough to continue (thankfully they found their strength). RM being the leader suffered probably the most which shaped him of that time. During the live where he discussed the album he described mono, as a friend, and to army it has been that friend forever, you listen to it to feel catharsis or to sometimes just remember who you are. I highly recommend thaf you check it out. 💜
English isn't my first language so please ignore the inconsistencies.

Highly, highly recommend for the rest of the songs to listen to the album from start to finish. I’m an album girlie in general but this one especially is perfectly placed. It’s almost like one long song. It’s pretty short, a little over 20 minutes long.
It is my depression album. It’s like having someone hold your hand through depression, not pressuring you or telling you to get better, but just waiting and helping you through until you’re ready to get better again.
Perfect album to listen to in the car at night after a really hard day.

They use rain in different ways. A baptism, or cleansing of a troubled mind. Sometimes it's a curtain to hide behind, or as you noted, a reflection of the self, looking back at him through a puddle.
They've used rain to talk about an inescapable storm; and to describe being in a rut. Korea gets it's fair share of typhoons so it makes sense for rain to express various aspects of life.

So here's what you need to know about this track:
“FOREVER RAIN” - written and produced by RM, Hiss Noise and Adora - is a contemporary Indie Rap song by RM from his 2nd mixtape "MONO", describing his struggle with depression and the constant fear of change.
The definition of “mono” means “alone” and “single”. This word is derived from the “monolithic”, meaning “without interesting differences" or “unable to be changed”. And that’s what Forever Rain is about: the sentiment of being an outcast.
The music video is visually in black and white to capture a theme of loneliness. When it rains, most people symbolize it with the weather which accompanies an introspective and dejected state of mind. However, it can also be seen as a cleansing agent that purifies the atmosphere after some disaster.
RM sees the pouring rain as one of his friends, as if the raindrops were always concerned about how he’s feeling. It is possible to notice the deep lyrics consisting of lonesomeness emotions when the first verse is sung. It really expresses how he wishes that the rain could stay pouring forever so that his tears wouldn’t get noticed - as they appear to be when the sun shines.
NOW EVERYTHING GOES BACK TO ITS PLACE
Recall that in “uhgood” (5th mixtape track), RM talks about the feeling of being out of place- being caught in between the ideal and the reality. Here, in “forever rain”, it seems that RM has found a consensus between (or a way to go about the conflict between) the ideal and the reality, as everything “goes back to its place”.
MY SHADOW’S REFLECTED ON THE SKY
Following the idea of seeing the pouring rain as a friend, this sentence prompts the listener to compare what RM is feeling to the weather. It´s as if the world was being empathetic with the way he feels.
    WHEN IT RAINS I
GET A LITTLE FEELING THAT I DO HAVE A FRIEND
    KEEPS KNOCKING ON MY WINDOWS
ASKS ME IF I’M DOING WEL
Even though we might have friends that love and care for us in real life, we still feel lonely sometimes and that loneliness cannot be filled up by the presence of other humans. It could be a problem that others can’t solve, thoughts that others don’t understand, or interests that others aren’t into… it is something unique to us, something that we have to deal with on our own, or with imaginary “friends” like the rain or other objects that we attribute human characteristics to.
    I DON’T LIVE BECAUSE I CAN’T DIE
    BUT I’M CHAINED TO SOMETHING
This line directly contrasts a line from Agust D’s “So Far Away”:
    “I’m living because I can’t die”
Both lines portray a struggle with trying to define why each of them are alive. However, both highlight the fact that they will continue to live despite not always knowing the reason why.
In “Forever Rain,” RM discusses his hopeless loneliness in a dreary setting that makes him feel less alone. You can find reasons to live in the smallest of things, whether it’s in the moon’s light, a cold city, or the never-ending rain.
WANNA LIVE IN THE ASHY WORLD
Ash is a common motif throughout mono. In the opening track, “Tokyo” (1st mixtape track), RM says that “ash is a thing that someday we all should be,” as a metaphor for death. In “Seoul” (2nd mixtape track), he talks about Seoul’s “same old ashy face,” its grayness and his conflicting feelings about it. Here, he expands ash from a result of fate and mien, to a universal phenomena.
The ash metaphor, which is mono’s overarching concept, befits this song’s monochromatic M/V.
I KNOW THAT THERE’S NO FOREVER
The title of this song is “forever rain”, yet RM points out here that there is, in fact, nothing that can stay forever. This might explain why RM says “I wish it rains all day” in the beginning of the song, because it cannot rain forever, and he will eventually have to face the reality of life without the rain to comfort him.

I came to BTS via alt rock and indie music. I honestly wasn’t much of a rap or pop fan. Mainly because I found most western pop and rap artists to be shallow and boring. But BTS changed all that for me. They have a catalogue of like 350 or so songs, and I honestly can only think of one song I don’t like. (I’m looking at you On featuring Sia. That was her fault, not BTS.) Yes, there are songs I like more than others, but I genuinely like all of their music. I think it is a magical combination of fantastic music, deep/meaningful lyrics, and their ability to float in and out of different genres like it’s natural.
Many of their songs are very deep and have incredible references and wordplay that we Americans won’t understand just by reading the lyrics. I recommend for songs like Ugh, Baepsae, Idol, Spring Day, Spine Breaker, etc. that you also watch and react to the explanation videos that you can find at DKDKTV and other channels. It will broaden your appreciation for the songs.

The first time I heard this song..I cried so hard coz as a kid I loved running in the rain but when I grew up the rain started to wash my tears away. Crying in the rain, feeling alone, or just looking outside seeking for comfort in the rain, RM understood what if felt like. I was not alone after all. Mono is my ultimate favorite album. It made me cry so hard, it still does, I listen to it when I'm sad, but at the same time I listen to it for comfort. I hope you listen to the whole album, too. Thank you for giving them a chance. 😊💜💜💜

They put a lot into their music. What I mean is, every song is quality, whether it’s your cup of tea or not. So, even though a person might only know their promoted singles/title tracks, their B-sides are just as good if not better. That’s why with every album, we have faith in what they put out would be worth buying. They don’t half a*s things, because they want to give their best/all what they have that’s within them and their creativity for their faithful listeners and supporters. Army.

I see Armys asking why RM in particular doesn't get the likes or streaming numbers that some of the other members do, but that is because he has musical integrity and he wants to remain true to himself. His music is not for the masses. 💜

This song is so relatable to anyone struggling, but there's an added layer of meaning for RM personally, which is his struggle with fame. The rain here can synbolize hiding in plain sight, where he can actually be his fully authentic self in public, even when sad, instead of having to wear a celebrity mask of happy perfection to please anyone looking. This is the sad reality for anyone who attains mega celebrity. RM has always been honest about his struggles with depression, self-esteem, being overanalytical, etc. And poetry is his first love.

The song and video are pretty self-explanatory if you pay attention, I don't think you need additional context to understand the lyrics or animation... But I'll expain it anyways: It's an introspective song about someone who is familiar with feelings of loneliness, alienation and depression. These negative moods come back cyclically, like an old curse or a vengentful ghost, haunting you.
Being alone under the rain, being less easily recognized under winter clothes and having an excuse to not speak to other people can be comforting, specially when you are exhausted or overwhelmed; whenever you may need to spend time with yourself and your own thoughts, when you need a break from a hectic job load or from having to be aware of social niceties (like people who need to frequently deal with costumer service or being a public figure or with formalities or who may even need to mask) in order to process your own emotions or reflect about your life or circumstances. The rain is like an old friend, with its consistent cadence, soothing sound and the way water is symbolically related to the idea of cleansing your body and/or soul, the water washes away dirt, pain, worries, confusing thoughts, negative feelings and bad memories. The rain sings you to sleep and clears your mind.
The people who are discriminated against or rejected by their communities, the people who are considered "weird" or "scary" or "wrong" or "disrruptive" or "bad" or "unforgivable" or "abominations" or simply "losers", for whatever reason, those individuals seem like monsters under their unbrellas, because monsters are often used to symbolozed marginalized or alienated people (specially in films and literature, some examples that come to mind are the Elephan Man, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Beauty and the Beast). Or maybe the monstruosity symbolises how they view themselves/how they are being treated.
PD: Wildflower and Forever Rain are narratively and sonically the "closure" of two different RM projects, the songs are far more impactful when you listen to the full projects in order.
Some additional thoughts: Rain is also a cyclical natural phenomenon. Like sadness, it has existed since ancient times. Like a chronical (mental or physical) illness or (social or experiential) afliction, it comes back every winter season, but doesn't stay forever. People often retreat to places surrounded by nature when they need time to be alone and reflect. Nature has a healing quality. Rain is needed for plants to grow. An old wise friend, indeed.

Oh boy here we go again.
I love watching your reactions, I honestly wish you guys posted 3 videos a day or something lmao.
Just to get it out of the way. BTS is a group of 7 artists from south korea. 3 rappers (RM, Suga and J-Hope) and 4 vocalists (Jimin, V, Jungkook and Jin). Anything else you should get from the Taylor guide "The bangtan 7" it's long and I would literally have to spend all day writing to fit in a proper intro to each of the members, so if you guys could react to that video to help us out on flushing out a lot of info at once it would be great :)
    So to answer questions:
4:20 I feel like that's the feeling you get when you listen to his newest album "Indigo", 10 songs, 10 different genres, the range this man has is absolutely just stupid high, and that happens just with BTS discography in general, if you were to chose 2 random songs out of their 300+ catalog you're almost guaranteed to get 2 completly different genres and I love that abt them. (Side note, it's okay to eventually find a song that isn't your taste, they have so many, it's bound to happen).
11:10 Forever Rain, as well as the "Mono" album, is so soothing, I love to play it when it rains lol. Mono has 7 songs and was actually released as a free mixtape for fans in 2018, it's not an actual solo album release like "Indigo" was last year. RM is always very analytical, he does a lot of self reflection, he wrote this song around 2016, that's also the year he started writing his album "Indigo", and you can see from his writing how much "wildflower" is a continuation of these thoughts in forever rain. RM feeling this sense of "the world sees me as more important than I see myself" is something that you see evolve in his songwriting.
In mono (Forever rain) he writes
"I wish it rains all day cuz then people wouldn't stare at me" (he dives even more into this concept of always being in the public eye in his song "Still life" from "Indigo").
"Gonna breath a little slower cuz my life and my rap, they're usually too fast" (BTS literally has a song called "Run BTS" which talks abt how their lives as BTS has always been a race, always working really hard and doing everything they could to keep growing and outdoing themselves despite having everything agaisnt them in the industry).
The rain helps slow down everything: traffic becomes slower, ppl become more introspective, he can take a few breaths when it rains bc everyone becomes distracted with their own lives and stops paying attention to him. In the video, all the people are floating and covering their "ugly" faces with umbrellas, they're concerned with their own sadness and minding their own business even while RM is walking through a runway in the middle of everyone. This runway is created bc it's raining and in the runway RM is able to see his own reflection as he walks with his head down. It's only when it rains, that he has the right conditions to truly take a pause of everything else and analyze himself and who he is.
"When it rains I get a little feeling that I do have a friend that keeps knocking in my window (the rain is that friend, it keeps knocking on his window) (He/It) asks me if I'm doing well; And I answer, I'm still a hostage of life"
One thing to note abt BTS is that they NEVER in their wildest dreams expected to become as popular as they are today. The level of fame they have is the result of a one in a million miracle. That will become clearer to you once you get to videos explaining their journey since 2013.
"I'm not lonely when you're pouring (his friend is the pouring rain), please stay by my side, I want to live in an ashy world, I know that there is no forever." Even though he desperatly wishes he could stay in the rain forever (Hence the repetition of "forever rain" so many times), he knows nothing is eternal, he will eventually be put in the sun again, in the spotlight.
It's a sad and lonely song that talks abt RM feeling a disconection from his life as "RM of BTS" and his life as Kim Namjoon. This theme is even more explored in his solo song "Persona" in BTS's album "Map of The Soul 7" which dives into psychological concepts by psychiatrist Carl Jung. "Persona" is the intro of the album, "Shadow" (Suga solo) is the interlude and finally "Ego" (J-Hope solo) is the outro, these 3 titles are references to the work of Carl Jung.
    In indigo (Wildflower) he writes
"Even before the beginning, I imagined that I’d be able to smile and applaud at the end"
"When all things I believed in drifted away from me, when all this fame turned into shackles"
"Please, take this greed away from me, no matter what it takes, please let me stay myself"
"My life that has grown larger than what I deserve or can afford"
In wildflower he also plays with the english and korean words for fireworks and turns it into flowerwork in the chorus "light a flowerwork". From a flaming "flower" of fire (firework) that burns out quickly to a flowerwork (wildflower) on a field that can have a tranquil life. This song comes at a time that BTS has been on a break for the second time ever in their 10 year careers. All the boys are planning their solo works as they wait the right time to enlist in the military, and RM can finally breath for a minute.
"I shall remain in this desolate field"
    "Ah, someday, I shall return"
He will eventually come back, but for now he gets to enjoy being in this desolate field and not have to live the hectic life of being active as BTS.
    13:30
The vocal line has some pretty amazing songs as a unit too. And solo works.
Boracity Magazine has an amazing video on her channel (all her videos are amazing) which talks abt Jin specifically, but she makes a charecterization of BTS' vocal line that is just perfect IMO:
    Jimin: feminine, unique sound
    V: dark, soulful sound
    Jungkook: stability, modern sound
    Jin: beautiful, classical sound
All 4 voices are very different and yet work amazingly well together and with the rap line.
Some vocal line songs (all 4): House of Cards, The Truth Untold, 00:00 o'clock, dimple
    Jimin: Serendipity
V: Rainy days (song from his upcoming album)
Jungkook: Dreamers (official World Cup fifa song)
Jin: Astronaut (his goodbye song for armys before he enlisted in the military)
As far as BTS unit songs...it's really hard...what should your first impression of BTS be? Like... they have so many different styles and eras it's really hard to chose. I say: just type BTS on the youtube bar, scroll a bit and chose a video you want. lmao. We'll give more context for the song in the comments if you need it.
Ok that's it. I'm done. Hope you made it through. Borahae

Please know this comes from a place of respect: There's 4 of you, and we are eager to hear YOUR thoughts, reactions, and contributions to understanding the ART of BTS/members and here, specifically, RM, who is so artistically minded, poetic, and insistent on the listener thoughtfully engaging and interpreting his music for themselves! Of course ARMY will share our own perspectives and what info we think important to know, but don't be so afraid that that is criticism of your own ideas! SHARE!! EACH of you has something to offer, and that's why we're giving you our time watching! Mono is a great album/mixtape, and is a favorite for many. It's my understanding that before their official solo debuts starting in 2022/2023, their solo projects (not the solo songs on BTS albums) were self-funded, managed, produced, etc. RM requested a world class (Korean?) animator to do the video for Forever Rain.

i felt the same when i heard this song the cores is just so impactful. RM is afraid of what other people say. he has scars from the beginning of BTS and he is the leader so he took the heat. and also he is very intelligent so he has to many thoughts in his head. i can´t even pretent to understand how he feels but he is so admirable. he dont like being famous i feel but at the same time he loves us fans so much and he dont want to stop or disappoint us in any way and he loves making music so it´s really a dilemma for him. i think he want to hide from people it´s easier than face people. in wildflower he was saying the same ting. he want to be a regular person but he still want to keep making music and be with the fans.

Fun reaction. Here is my list of recommendations:
Agust D/Suga: burn it, snooze, d-day, people (not people pt 2), intro shadow, the last
JK: still with you, euphoria live at wembley stadium, stay alive, my time live
V: sweet night, Christmas tree, singularity live, stigma live, inner child and his new album that drops september 8 (first 2 singles have music videos-love me again and rainy days)
Jimin: set me free pt 2, like crazy, serendipity, filter,
RM: uhgood, persona, everything goes, joke (for insane rapping skills but lyrically he is doing it as a joke to show the rappers that were hating on him that he could do everything they can only better)
J-hope: more, arson, chicken noodle soup
Jin: the astronaut, epiphany live, moon
Rap line: outro tear live at wembley , ugh, ddang, cypher 2. Cypher 4 (all four cyphers are good though and the cypher medley live is good)
Vocal line: house of cards, the truth untold, dimple live
BTS: everything (just kidding, i will list a few but seriously if i even stuck to my favorites the list would be long so this is just a start) fake love (my first bts song) black swan, your eyes tell, on (both kinetic manifesto for incredible dance and the MV for some powerful symbolic messaging) mikrokosmos, we are bulletproof the eternal, mic drop, make it right, heartbeat, boy in love, run bts (dance practice), blue and gray, not today
Favorite live performances: MMA 2019 and 2018, outro tear at wembley, suga's entire d-day tour, tiny desk concert, hobie singing more at lalapaloosa, ddang, magic shop, your eyes tell in japan, born singer from proof
Also, check out DKDKTV for explainer videos for Ddang and Ugh and the Bookish Theories channel for explainer videos for almost all BTS songs. If you are wondering if something means somethimg she will give you a breakdown to a level that will blow your mind.
Two of the songs with the deepest symbolism in videos are spring day and blood, sweat, and tears. Those definitely need explainer videos. The best ones are not on either of the two channels that i mentioned. Spring day is about a tragic ferry incident in south korea where a ton of school kids drowned. Search for the explanation video made by italian army. Blood, sweat, and tears is based on the book damien and pretty much every item in the video means something. It isnt my favorite bts song but the symbolism in that video is mind blowing. Everything bts does is intentional and means something. My favorite explainer for it is by the don't worry i'm not afraid channel and the video is Blood, sweat, and tears: what does it all mean? Also i would recommend the explanation video by DKDKTV for Deschwita that you reacted to already by Agust D.

I don't know what this song is about specifically. I take it at its lyrics. He's feeling tired of the fame. In rain, he can walk around the streets without being recognized. People are busy minding their own business and trying not to get wet. And, sounds like he's tired of a lot of things happening in his life at that moment. He says how he wishes he could knock on some door and someone would hug him and welcome his exhausted self. Probably been thinking too much. RM analyzes every thought and every action. I can relate to that. lol

RM is very poetry lyricism. He will come with lots of words that you have to rethink about it.
Suga is very great at putting words together. He had a different style when it comes to expresses feelings.
please react to Tear by the rap line. Lyric video and live performance.
JHope is very clear on what he was saying, and always spread sunshine and hope .

ruclips.net/video/WSqkfXsc3AU/видео.html A video of Namjoon talking about Mono, the album with Forever Rain. He's known to be kind of clumsy, cute and smart, and here you see some of that. 😉

Thank you for taking your time to dive deeper than most :-) I really like the four of you - your Interaction...
Been hearing BTS music since 2017 - I was soooo sick and tired of, sorry, the same boring shit on the radio.. Raunchy lyrics or just lazy music... BTS is art, borderless love, different, deep, interactive fanbase, charitable, humble and a movement that im proud to be a part of.
Congrats on your channels journey - I hope that it will bring you a lot of joy - or at least a place to escape for a moment or two..
    - I do have mad respect for Americans saying "Sorry, we are just stupid Americans" ;-)

If somebody told me 3 years ago that I will like korean rap and BTS. Now I'm almost 45 years old and thinking why do humans always have fear of the unknown. Forever Rain is my favorite RM song, Persona second. So much said in a song.

I hope you react to all of mono, it’s one of my favorite pieces of work ever made, to me mono stands above all else when it comes to RM’s work.
We are all hiding from everyone else because we all believe we are monstrous in our feelings. To let the rain hit you instead of hiding under the umbrella it means accepting what you feel, accepting you aren’t happy, that you no longer hide from these depressing thoughts.
I hope you react to Jimin’s EP which came out this year, 6 songs, I think you’ll like it. It’s called Face, everyone will want you to react to the MVs which I do agree you should watch, but I believe Face needs to be heard and experienced in order, because it’s a retelling of Jimin’s life and feelings through the pandemic.

RM is the middle child in BTS, so he is younger than both Jhope and Suga (and Jin who is actually the oldest).
