- Boba Fett, the infamous intergalactic bounty hunter, has tracked his next prey into a dusty saloon in the outskirts of a remote space port. In the shadows of the busy space bar the hunter confronts his target’s three sinister henchmen. Who will blink first?
The Twelve Parsec Stare is a Finnish Star Wars -inspired short film with combining the Sci-Fi and the Western genres as its ambition. The non-commercial, non-profit project was funded entirely by the production team and the film has been made from start to finish in the duration of 2015, including the week-long filming period.

I'm surprised how much of a story you can tell without a single piece of dialogue.
1:47 "Let's see what you got. I'm all in."
3:10 "Here, give me some of that good stuff! Yeah, that!"
5:50 "My wife's gonna kill me..."
9:33 "What happened here?"
9:38 "Hey, you."
All joking aside, though, you're absolutely right. This was a great fan film.
Ur no good to me dead
I think this also makes a good point of why Boba Fett is a great character even without dialogue.
all of the good westerns did this back in the old days
The best filmmakers know how to do that.
I love how Boba stops the third guy from firing with his boot, and lets him live. He's merciless with is enemies, but not just a murderer either.
+Boris L I think he did that as a repayment for the guy trying to give the information, even though he was intimidated by the 'boss' at the table
@@Praxus42 Perhaps there's more to it than meets the eye. Notice how the man Fett spares is the same man who's at the bar at 2:34, only seconds before Fett himself arrives. Perhaps he was secretly helping Fett the whole time, leading Fett to his target. He would, of course, have had to feign moving toward his weapon after the confrontation began.
@@rbjr208 no, because why he sit the table and show them who he was looking for instead of showing Boba where the guy was behind him.
Ok I know I’m late but I totally agree he’s not a criminal he just has a job to do
That droid making the classic the Good the Bad and the Ugly sound was fucking awesome
He's just a simple man making his way through the universe.
The Imperial March in the western style made me smile! Nice work.
I've always said that the best parts of Star Wars are distinctly western. Jeremy Bulloch said he felt like the man with no name as he donned Boba's cloak. Boba is said to have "spurs" and you can hear them as he walks in ESB. The Han - Greedo shootout is a distinctly western scene.
I hope more western tropes are used in the future of Star Wars, I truly feel that it is and should remain steeped in Western mythology.
+Dallas Van Winkle I agree.
Read my last name
I love how most of this is very Western, too. From the actual movie to the soundtrack.
+Dallas Van Winkle I think Boba was a bit based on Clint Eastwood.
This short has direct references to Sergio Leone's westerns, those western masterpieces with Clint Eastwood, Gian Maria Volonte and Lee Van Cliff
great short. creative characters, very authentic mandalorian armor, and you stayed true to the mysteriousness of the character. Well done!
Thanks Stephen!
@@RuinedFilms pls get in touch with Disney !!! They need you
@@tom2gunzbombadil689 For real this guy wrote a way better Boba than the people in charge of his own series.
When fan films are more faithful to the character than the official TV show...
Sadly, that is the truth.
Or better than the Disney?
@@FunkMasterJunk Absolutely, Disney completely fucked up Boba in his own series.
Except for the big ass gigantic jawa but yeah 😅
When you have a near death experience, come see me and say it didn’t affect you.
The "Man with no Name" "whistle" from the short droid was excellent. :)
Isn't it the very start of "The good, the bad and the ugly" music that the droid is whistling ?
+Julien Thévenoz (TheChade) Yeah, haha!
+Julien Thévenoz (TheChade) Yes, which is the 3rd movie in "The Man With No Name Trilogy" otherwise known as "The Dollars Trilogy". The first movie trilogy ever made, by the way.
Dallas Van Winkle Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it never started out as being a trilogy in the first place. It was referred to as "The Man With No Name Trilogy" for marketing purposes later on, but as far as I know, the movies aren't really officially meant to be tied, they just used three similar main characters, played by the same actor with - for most part - the same clothes. And some of the actors who played characters who ended up dead in one of the previous films return as new characters in a later film, etc.
Yeah, you're right.
Whoever is in the boba suit had the mannerisms down perfectly. More please.
not enough of him in his underwear getting beat up and humiliated. 0/10
Please Disney, please make the future Boba Fett movie in the style of a old Western.
space western
victor arana MOTHERFUCKIN SPACE COWBOYS!!!
Boba was based off of Clint Eastwood so it would be fitting
Proper Drashig We got the Mandalorian haha.
@@matt55800 and it's absolutely amazing
Dead serious, this is the best Star Wars fan film out. Tied with "Darth Maul:Apprentice" but I am a fan of the Fett more so this is number 1 to me. Captured the character of Boba Fett perfectly and was very well done
Fantastic stuff. Fett is not a hero, he's a bounty hunter and probably "Lawful Neutral" on the alignment chart. Some people try to make him into some kind of hero and others say he's aligned with empire but he's really not, he's just a guy who's good at what he does.
If there's one small constructive criticism I can give it's that maybe the guys at the table overacted slightly, little too much twitching. Sometimes less is more. Loved the bar tender though, very subtle.
shingnosis Thanks for your feedback! And agreed on your view on our favorite Bounty Hunter.
+shingnosis Yeah that was the only thing that annoyed me, the one eyed alien dude kept sort of twitching/snarling and then the guy with the red stripe across his face starts twitching like a hamster as well. I could have done without that but I still sent links of this short film to all my friends, it was kinda cool
+shingnosis I don't know if Boba Fett is Lawful Neutral. I'm willing to bet he's liable to go above the law if the price is right. True Neutral perhaps?
Obviously his reputation precedes him.
@@yugen I know I'm like, 5 years late, but Lawful doesn't just mean obeying the law. It means having a personal code one will not break. Batman is, in this sense, Lawful Good. He only has one rule, but he won't break it.
Boba is similar. It's been established he has a code (I don't actually know the detail myself) but he follows it. This is a good example, where he has a rule to not kill innocent people, perhaps, and so holds the gun with his boot instead of shooting him. A True Neutral character would have simply executed all three.
This video definitely played a part in the production of Jon Favreau Mandolorian script being a spaghetti western
I just can't abide by those Jawas, the end credit scene is so great! This is the Mandalorian before the Mandalorian! Really well done. This should be canon!
Probably one of the best shorts ever made. I loved the use of real locations, models, and practical effects! The Jawas at the end where really fun too! There was a great mix of Star Wars adventure, with the old school Eastwood Western suspense. The costumes looked great, and I love how you incorporated the early Fett ideas such as the slinged pistol and poncho! I really hope this is nominated for some type of award in the future. It was really fun to see one of my favorite SW characters doing his daily routines. I would really love to see more Star Wars!!!
+CML-Studios big thanks for your message! It's great to hear people acknowledge the practical elements, as those were really important to us as well. A big part of the Star Wars' essence is in its practical design!
This absolutely nails the badassery of Boba Fett. The morphing of elements from Spaghetti Western films, but still retaining a Star Wars atmosphere. This is VERY well done. The music at 7:47 is also REALLY cool. I loved this.
ruinedfilms you have just done justice to boba fett
This remains the best Star Wars fan film I’ve ever seen.
"Bounty hunting is a complicated profession"
THIS is what The Book of Boba Fett should've been in a first place.
This short was so ahead of its time. Sergio Leone would be proud.
I didn't know Boba Fett had a hot glue gun
The original pre-production sidearm prop was actually scratch-built out of a camera grip, but it was never seen onscreen!
+brandon jenkins Lol
+brandon jenkins He's crafty.
+brandon jenkins it is a hot glue gun XD
+brandon jenkins i have a new glue gun and i used it to shoot skywalker right up his butt.
Love the western feel of it kinda reminds me of a new hope
The thing about Boba Fett that i find so interesting is how a character was created around him by the fans. Watch the old movies and he is just a guy in a cool outfit. But the fans have made this really cool lore around him that was so popular, it even got him and his father to have a small part in the prequels. I hope that Disney continues this by making one of the anthology movies about him. It could be really cool, like a western set across the galaxy after his escape from the sarlac pit.
Truly a fan film worthy of the Greatest Bounty Hunter.
That was great! Loved his stare when you can see their three faces on his visor
11/10 This was full of amazing cinematography, great costume design, wonderful acting and felt like something that came straight from one of the film's,
overall this one of the best Star Wars fan films ever
This film is brilliant. Kept me interested for eight minutes without a word of dialogue.
I've watched this countless times since its release. In my opinion the best Star Wars fan film ever made.
Amazing, thank you!
I love how you were able to make the characters feel new and unique but seemed like they fit in the star wars universe. Definitely in my top 3 star wars fan films
BEAUTIFULLY DONE! Spaghetti Western played well with the Star Wars story! This is the way 👍
GAWD I LOVE EVRYTHING ABOUT IT, THE CAMERA DISPLAY , THE REFERENCES TO OTHERS GREAT MOVIES THE POSTERS ON THE CANTINA WALLS, best fanmovie ever
Thanks mate! Please share it with your friends too!
The scoring on this was over the top awesome (I see everyone already complimenting everything else production-wise, thought I'd get this in too :D). When we see the Fett-man swagger in I knew awesome was about to happen and the droid chirping the Good Bad and the Ugly theme sealed the deal- and of course you deliver! Keep making these please!
***** thanks for your kind words! I'm afraid our take on Boba will be a one-off project as the ambition is to focus on our own original productions in the future. :)
***** Thank you for your kind words. Made my day :)
+CRocketSlim I thought it interesting how well the Empire theme worked as a western background music, and of course the Ennio stuff works well in Star Wars because much of Star Wars is Western mythology in space.
That's exactly what I thought while composing this. I started off by playing and recording some John Williams' stuff but then just erased it, played some guitar and then came up with something from between the both worlds :)
Incredible, didn't expect this to be this good. Well done, highly impressed!
Even though this is almost 7 years old this is truly spectacular
This is the Boba that we all wanted to see, not the naive talkative pussy we got from Disney.
This was fucking beautiful. Everything from the props & costumes, the atmosphere & camera work, right down to the music. The fact that you can convey a story without words is always +1 from me, and it looks even more badass here in the western bar setting. That along with the fact that Boba was a silent badass in the films, so it fits perfectly with his character. This 9 minute scene could easily be canon.
To put my two cents in, first; this was epic. From start to finish. Great production. Props were as good as be expected (I want that glue gun). And the best part, the freaking score. The music sold everything beautifully. The tension. The climax. And the western style imperial march as he strolled out the door. Like a boss. Take notes Disney/Lucasfilms. The Boba Fett story SHOULD be a touch of spaghetti western. Fucking brilliant. More please!
Did you notice the good, the bad and the ugly theme at 2:20?
Hugh Warner yes. It had the spaghetti western theme all over it. Great film
Thank you so much. I am the composer for the film. Just got to read this comment right now and it really made my day :)
+Frostcurrent Dude, that was epic 👏👏👏👏
Whoa :D. Such kind words really strengthens my confidence as a music producer. I rarely get feedback but this is all worth it. Are you yourself affiliated in production of audio or video -projects?
Wild West version of the Imperial March, excellent rendition!
Three years later and it's still just so damn good! That moment at the table with everyone fingering their blasters, no one daring to shoot first, it was just so brilliantly timed and edited, and that droid near the start was one of the most charming things I've ever seen. This is without a doubt my favorite Star Wars fan film, bar none. Brilliant work, guys! I'm in love!
Apparently Disney liked it too.
A brilliant film - telling a story completely without dialogue, and building the mood of both the Spaghetti Westerns AND the original Star Wars movie!
I wish Disney had done something like this with the Boba Fett series
RuinedFilms
I have to say you did a great job.
It's very awesome.
You captured the feel of Boba Fett badassery.
I love the connections with "The Man With No Name".
And that extra scene at the end with Jawas made me laugh a lil' bit.
This is what a Boba Fett movie needs to be,in my opinion.
Guess what i was the tallest jawa on that mini movie ;)
This is the bobba we wanted!!! This is so much better than the book of bobba fett.
I love it! Especially the western Star Wars theme at the end
the "good the bad and the ugly" note from the little astromech - brilliant idea
So there's a couple things I have to say, first being the sets and costumes. You absolutely nailed the environment of the cantina and the atmosphere of Star Wars as a whole. There were little details here and there that really made me appreciate the video for what it is, for example; the posters showing that the Empire is recruiting and the pod racing going on in the background, and also the fact that you included that the people at the table were playing some pazzak. The costumes of everyone where almost spot on, for one minor exception, nothing too big to make a deal out of, but at 3:28, the man spitting at the Jawas, it almost seems as if he's wearing normal clothes that you could see anyone on the street wearing, but then again, there aren't many options when it comes to civilian clothing in the Star Wars universe.Next, the Boba Fett costume was magnificent, almost spot on, but there was one minor problem I had with the outfit. I'm not sure if the "cape" that is wrapped around Boba is the iconic cape that everyone sees Boba wearing that is usually almost never wrapped (I don't even think it's long enough in the movies when seen). Lastly, I didn't like how the most notorious bounty hunter in the galaxy walks in to a cantina on Tatooine and is basically shrugged off as another dime-a-dozen bounty hunter. Not until Boba Fett sit down did people somewhat start to notice that terrifying Mandalorian. But all in all, these things hardly take away from the overall quality of the short film and are only things that Star Wars nerds like me point out, otherwise, good job!
+TheJangoLegacy thank you for your message and the constructive feedback! We made a conscious decision in changing his traditional cape to a poncho cloak that is not canon as such, but worked well in our crossover theme. This is better detailed in our Making-of Series.
Still one of the best fan films ever made
Disney: we have an idea for a Mandalorian story. Base it on a Western.
Ruinedfilms: Hold my drink.
These guys at Ruined Films are Wizards & truly great work at this very much covered subject of star wars
Very well done. Nice homage to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Tension nicely builds and then disapates. Oh and if I may be so bold as to say the lady at 06:46 is so beautiful.
+Shannmeister im pretty sure that was more inspired by "for a few dollars more" :)
+VJ89VJ the twitching of that guy's face was like the hunchback in the bar with Mortimer!
Simp
06:46… that ain’t no lie…
BEST FAN FILM EVER. PERIOD. GREAT WORK.
Erinomaista työtä! Näyttää todella hyvältä ja ammattimaiselta. Hieno tunnelma, kuvaus, musiikki, kaikki. Kiva että sain olla mukana! :D
Cinematics are amazing. 10/10 as a huge star wars and growing up with a love of boba and the mandalorian soldiers (i thought they looked sick as) i love it! Awesome stuff
This video is about to EXPLODE with views. You guys deserve all the love you are about to get, bravo.
March 2022....and I just came across this??? Awesome work!! I agree with a commentator, loved how Boba stopped one guy from drawing his blaster, but did not kill him.....as he did not see him as a real threat.
I just got home from the Rise of Skywalker theater.
I had to cleanse my eyes and my heart.
Love the western references, well done
This was really well done! The character and costume of Boba Fett was spot on.
Great vid, the rythm, the pause, sound of the moving glass on the table, the kill was so westernly cool, love your vid, love you guys, looking forward to your new vids inthe future
Regardless of you shit talkers they put a lot into the making of this film and given the style and overall feel of it, i think they portrayed him pretty well and it gives me hope for the future for boba fett. I mean hes so badass someones gotta show him off more in a spin off film or at least feature him in a film for more than 8 seconds. Hopefully when the day comes it will be as or more tasteful than this one.
2:20 the droid makes the "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" theme
That shot with the group of 3 reflected in the mask was BRILLIANT. Very well done!
Now thats how you make a short film dammit :). Amazing work, great job guys
I like how the little droid plays the good, the bad and the ugly jingle
This was great to watch and very well put together, really liked the inverted speaker dome R2 unit giving it the western whistle. Good make up, costumes, location and props were believable for the star wars verse, intense and dramatic enough to portray the situation without dialog, a very enjoyable fan-film from a hive of cut-throats and mercenaries by the most infamous bounty hunter known of, in a galaxy far far away!
This is criminally underrated!!
My new favorite star wars fan-movie
This was a great concept, executed incredibly well. This could easily be the opening scene to an actual Anthology film. Plus, I love the after-credits scene!
Utinni!
It is now.
If Disney ever makes a Boba Fett film, let’s hope they stay as true to the character as you have here. Bravo!
This didn’t age well
Wow! How does it feel to be ripped off by the mouse? Unless you work for them?
Absolutely awesome I gotta say. As a huge Sergio Leone fan and boba fett nut job I loved every second of the audio and visual and concept. Bloody brilliant!
Great action sequence. Smooth and calculated. Looked awesome, and felt like star wars. Noice work.
That was cool , we defo need a boba fett origins movie
We're getting one, just wait a few years
But we already know Fetts origins. I may not be a good one but it's an origin story
That droid In the beginning that makes the good the bad and the ugly theme is so awesome
You've gotta love The Infamous Mandalorian Boba Fett. I just like how he killed 3 and left one alive. He's infamous, but he's got that mercy side as well.
I loved how he casually fixed his belt when he stood up from his bounty.. :P
I seriously hope the Mandalorian can have similar elements. I have high hopes for that show!
I used to be a Star Wars. I hate the current franchise. However, I loved this piece. Well done. I was engaged.
And Vader’s theme song at the end with a picked guitar is subtle but cool too!
Omg the droid doing the cowboy whistle in the beginning was perfect 👌
I would pay to see this on the big screen!
When you realize that the R2 Unit at 2:18 beeps the traditional cowboy stare down theme... This is a masterpiece.
very great, well done. One of the best star wars characters in a mysterious way :)
Love the fact this is made without a single word said phenomenal. But it can easily still execute a Clint Eastwood vibe to it since that's who he's based off of. this is old but idc Great work!!
Boba fett is such a hard character to film even in a fan film but you guys captured his mysterious nature, George Lucas based Boba off of western gunslingers and outlaws with a fast quick draw, you’ve captured his very essence in this film. Please do more…
More stories about Boba Fett and Mandalorian culture, they are a fascinating lot. Shrouded in armour trained in the art of war, sworn to a code of honour. Keep up the spectacular work.
Thank you so much!
By far, the best Star Wars fan short i've ever seen
Nice job! Just a friendly tip on audio: all the stereo effects seem to be panned full left or full right. This is very distracting, especially if listening with headphones. It's much better to do something like an 80/20 or 70/30 pan to indicate something off-screen, and hardly pan at all for elements on screen. If you think about it, in real life, you don't hear a car approaching from your right through the right ear only. You hear it more predominantly through your right year, but your left ear picks it up clearly too, just to a little lesser degree.
Also, the extras and supporting roles are doing a bit of over acting (guy sleeping in front of the bar at the beginning comes to mind). Try to keep the focus off them and more on the main characters.
Great job setting the mood and atmosphere, especially on what I assume is a modest budget. The music was great, and I liked the droid's nod to Good, Bad, and the Ugly.

Hi
I am the sound designer for this film. What you said makes a lot of sense and I totally understand what you mean. I will re-watch the film and take into consideration what you said, maybe play with the mix session also to try and get better results. Always open to learning!
Thanks for taking the time to write the comment! And I'm glad you like the film.
No problem! Glad I could help. Keep up the good work.
Love the Imperial theme on the guitar near the end, gave me chills.
Thank you! I'm glad I managed to reach someone with the idea!
This was the best SW fan film Ive seen yet. Most try to get a huge storyline into a small time frame. It just doesnt work. This hit the mark in every way. And that lady w the silver lips was smokin hot.
Oh, and I love the old westerns feel to this. Great work here.
+brian patrick Cheers mate!
1:47 Dengar! 3:30 Giant Jawa! and I love the Spaghetti Western Empire March at the end!
We want more western boba fett! 👍🏽
Love the tongue-in cheek quality to this. (And that we never hear Fett say anything.)
This is perfect for a Boba Fett film. He's Lee Van Cleef with a jet pack.
Just wanted to say like so many others in the previous comments, you really need to do another one, you can't just stop at one. Well done to all who had a part in making In The Twelve Parsec Stare.
Great job. Nicely done and i see real love for Star Wars. True fans.
Awesome film! I loved all of the details, from the astromech doing the whistle from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" down to the accurate Boba Fett boots! Well done and super enjoyable.
Hei täähän oli ihan jees. Olin valmiina että milloin saa antaa facepalmia, mutta eihän sitä perkele tarvittukaan! Hienoa työtä.
The sound of that droid 😂 That was a fine homage.
Great work.
This is amazing! Incredible job!
I love the little blips of music from Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. This was great! Good job!
I’m going to tell my kids that this is the Mandalorian
