Sign-off of the Disney Channel recorded sometime in late 1986, at the time a premium cable service. Before December 7, 1986, the Disney Channel signed-off at 1:00 AM Eastern & Pacific Time, returning to the air at 6:00 AM.
The off-schedule time would usually be used to feed channel promos for the cable operator to air during unsold local avails on other channels, but on these nights, Disney was testing its scrambling abilities. (Notably, this was a few months after the infamous Captain Midnight/HBO signal intrusion incident, instigated by that channel's decision to scramble its satellite feed.)
Also notable, the operator at the satellite uplink facility almost immediately recognizes and corrects a spelling error in the scramble notice just before the cable operator's (Viacom Cablevision, sold to TCI in 1995 and now part of Comcast) character generator automatically kicks in, promoting a free preview of the channel-Disney would convert from a premium service to a basic service in 1999.

Thank you for unearthing this rare recording! I don't recall seeing TDC"s later sign-off of this era with the newer logo so this was nice.
I don't believe it was ever used for long [in comparison to the previous sign-off bumper with the Mickey Mouse satellite puppet/prop] seeing as the network would extend it's programming to 24 hours a day later in the same year (1986)
The Disney Channel actually went 24/7 on December 7, 1986, as indicated by the "testing will continue nightly until 12/7/1986" advisory. From then on, test scrambling took place during programming on a part-time basis before the entire service scrambled full-time in May 1988.
Thanks-updated. That timeline makes sense, considering that's when testing ended; I was going by info from Wikipedia.
@@Channel37TV You're welcome and thanks. The December 7th date was announced in The Disney Channel Magazine.
why sell it to viacomcbs?
This is creepy as heck! Just imagine staying up until like, midnight and while you make your way towards your bed the screen goes black. “Huh, does the TV just turn off by itself now?“ suddenly, this weird BSOD-looking screen comes up. Telling you to come back later and then spouting off some practice stuff you don’t understand…
😣😣😣
Back in the '80s, it was pretty much a given that if you were watching TV past midnight, you were going to see some weird stuff.

Why Is The Dark Sky Looking Like 3AM or 4AM ?
I love Disney Channel I watched it when I Was Little
Viacom bought Disney rival Nickelodeon that same year.
I bet the satellite operator felt no embarrassment since pretty much nobody saw them having to correct that typo.
The Disney Channel wishes you a wonderful tomorrow. And remember, you always have a place to turn to, your family place, The Disney Channel. And now, Good Night.
At 1:07 It was renamed a "NIGHT" to "NIGHTLY"
Someone could remake this, but with modern HD footage of EPCOT towards night.
Very rare find of the Epcot sign-off! Thank you for uploading this. Was there any hint of what the last show (or movie) might've been before TDC went off the air?
I wish I saw the Disney Channel sign off!
