Crazy, my uncle had one of these around '87-88? The exact first laptop I ever used. I was a kid at the time, and I remember it weighed like 15 lbs, but it was mind blowing because it was 'portable'. His backlight I remember being blue? it was a long time ago. Great find, thanks for sharing.

Haha, I see you scrolled past my video a few times for the PC convertible upgrade in your list there :) These are fun little machines. I have videos where I have put mine on the internet :)

My first PC. Played a number of Lucasfilm and Sierra Online adventures on it, programmed in Basic and Pascal. The screen resolution was twice the width of CGA, made all characters short and fat. Also black&white were inverted and that made it tricky with games

Hehe - in my video, I say that a nickel works better to open the keyboard tray. I also didn't detach the keyboard just to get at the memory tray - it hangs from the front of the display. Initially, only the 128Kb modules were available, so you have 512Kb in the four modules. Third-party and the later IBM 256Kb cards help you reach 640Kb, as I show in my video.
There is also information on the PC Convertible at the 'Ardent-Tool' website. I do live-streams every Saturday morning, 10 AM MST (GMT -7). If I would have been aware of this stream, I would have given some guidance (I have been subscribed, thanks for not notifying me RUclips!). Of course, I've moved off the 5140 and the monitors it can run, but reach out to me, I love having been a reference here!

So those 6x AA battery holders that can convert to a standard 9v header actually fit a bit snugly in the battery area, with batteries. I ran mine of some AA's for a bit like that. Kinda neato.

omg thanks, i literally salvaged a beyond repair ibm convertible due to his floppy drives are the IBM Toshiba PS/2 floppy drives, far more reliable than Alps Drives for putting in work a Ps/2 model 25

When I took my drives off the screw holes broke off of 3 of them, more like crumbled off 3 of them. Luckily they aren't really needed the bus holds them well enough.
