  • California Chanterelle Hunting That's the name of the game! We never really know what we will find when we enter the forest looking for mushrooms, this time we did have a goal we were looking for king boletes and chanterelles. lucky for us we found some. we decided to take a break from fishing because we have had some rain here on the Mendocino California coast and we knew the mushrooms would be popping! we were right!

    We've gotten another good rain here in the Pt Conception CA area, and a second flush is happening. I love chanterelles for those of us just starting to forage. Easy to ID, and the similar looking, toxic ones are easy to tell apart. Not to mention the flavor.

    What kind of chanterelles are these? Sorry if my question seems elementary. I'm brand new to mushroom foraging and thought chanterelles' false gills an stalk would be same color as the cap or slightly lighter. These seemed to be white or was that just how the colors came through tge video? Thanks

      Most of these are Cantharellus californicus The color does slightly change with how wet the Mushroom is or how old the Mushroom is definitely be a 100% sure before eating any mushrooms 😃😄

    Looks like you were in redwoods, is that true? What other trees in that area?

    • @LostCoastLiving
      @LostCoastLiving  Год назад

      That's correct we were in the Redwoods, also a lot of oak trees around us in this area

      Usually we like to stay closer to the oak trees than the Redwoods we find that the Redwoods leaves are very acidic for most of the mushrooms that we're looking for
