David Gedge has one of the most emotive faces while he sings that I've witnessed (alas, only on video). I've noticed it on multiple songs, particularly this and the version of "What Have I Said Now?" that's floating around youtube. Oh, and I agree with all previous commenters.
I'd be very careful about saying things like that. He isn't at all is he, he was David Gedge, is all. For an atheist to make that comparison would have zero meaning. For a believer to it would be blasphemy. Either way it's both obviously wrong, contradictory, flippant, disrecftful to those ppl who are into all that, in the way you wouldn't have dared use any other religious figure in that context, and I'll kindly ask you to reconsider that statement. Because as I've pointed out, those who don't believe are basically just saying Gedge is nothing and not very important, and if you do believe, well, you don't need me to spell that out. I'd expect such a comment from maybe a 15 year old, but you don't look 15, or seem to be 15, in fact you're probably only slightly younger than me, maybe. Food for thought though isn't it, at least if you want to be a logical and, consistent type of person. @herbertrichard614
