- Have you ever been under Syreeta's SPELL? This is one of her most underrated projects, yet, it's one of the best albums she ever did. She wrote not only this song, but the title track, and another rock tune called 'Freedom', which tells me that Syreeta was more than just a sweet voice that could knock a ballad out of the ballpark. This woman also had a Rock edge to her musical personality--and for a brief moment in 1983-- Motown allowed her to venture in a new, funkier direction, and with the help of producer Jermaine Jackson, they produced this SPELLbinding album, which ranks among my favorite albums of all time.
I thought I was the only one on the planet that appreciated her last album. Forever Is Not Enough kept me from suicide when I was a teen.
Wow...that's deep..glad you decided to stick around...the transcendental power of music, especially the voice of Syreeta is powerful ain't it? Here's to living and enjoying more music!
forever is not to show you what I feel in my heart, every time I look at you it feels like a brand new start!
Man, I LOVED this song as a teen! It was on constant rotation. The copy I have is not good quality, thanks for posting (although I'm 6 years late)!
RIP Syreeta Wright 1946-2004,Syreeta died of congestive heart failure on July 6,2004 in Los Angeles,She was 57years old,She is survived by her 4 children grandchildren and half sister Brenda Moore.
Very sad - Thankyou, Rennard, for posting this.
I recorded and mixed this record many moons ago. Syreeta was the Sweetest. Wished the vocals were a little louder
You really did? I envy you
Has some prince funkyness about it. I just discovered Syreeta by reading about Stevie Wonder and man she had a lot of great Songs. Why did she have to leave so soon? :( i guess even forever is not enough.
Rest in Peace Syreeta Wright - All her music is wonderful to listen to
Dayum - been searching for this one high & low for many moons; thanks ever-so-much, DionnesDiscography, for posting this most excellent and extremely rare song. Would you happen to possess the original 4-part blend of Syreeta's "By Your Side/Universal Sound Of the World" beginning w/Stevie Wonder telling his kids to "Get their a** upstairs!" & ending with the sweet lullabye? If you do, I beg you to please post it for the benefit of all humanity ... & my very own sanity. Peace, peoples
Who you tellin???......I damn near got " Indiana Jones" trying to find this classic jam from the late Syreeta Wright.
Sweet preety Syreeta.
R.I.P.
Hearing this brings back great memories!!!!!
Berry Gordys hidden jewel.
Her albums for the Mowest, Motown and Tamla labels were Syreeta('72), Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta ('74), One to One ('77), Rich Love, Poor Love (with G. C. Cameron) ('77), Syreeta ('80), Set My Love In Motion ('81) and The Spell ('83).
OMG I have loved this album from the moment I found it in a crate at a local record store. It is SOOOOO good! The only track I can't tolerate is Freddy I'm Ready. Every other track is a gem!
I also love this album. But where is "Freddie Um Ready". Nobody has uploaded this track in all these years.
Who will ever know how much farther she might have gone in the music world?
Thank you so much for posting this! I've always loved this song and Syreeta's song "Freedom"! I went to hear a band play shortly after I bought this album, met some of the band members and found out that one of them was the Arranger on this album.
that's a hot song
Great album, I prefer the precedent one but I love both
Oh those were great days. I bought this at the time in 1984 because I liked the look of Syreeta and I had heard her before and I wanted to give this a try and it was indeed a wonderful album.
you took me way back on this one. thanks for posting
