CDs for me. I originally had Gish and Lull on cassette. I had Siamese Dream on CD also, but later got the vinyl. I drove to the record store(remember those?)like a mad man the day Siamese Dream was released, thinking that there'd be a huge line and I wouldn't get one. I ran to the counter and asked the employee "Do you still have any of the new Smashing Pumpkins albums?" He looked at me like I was an alien and pointed to the section. Of course there was no line, and a stack of new CDs, LOL. I wanted to stand in the middle of the mall and scream "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!!"😆

Of course I will be biased, I was growing up and young. So it was awesome, for those of us who had a decent childhood or better, would say the music/movies and so on of our youth was and is the best. Nostalgia is a very complex emotion and every generation is biased. @@neilmccarthy1868

I live in Japan. I flew to Seattle last November to see them live. Billy was sick and couldn't sing well but it was still an incredible experience. There's a certain magic about this band's music that's difficult to define.

My favorite double album ever, and I've listened to the White Album, The Wall, Physical Graffiti, etc. The Pumpkins at their absolute peak, and Billy finally let his bandmates contribute to the writing and performing process. Timeless album; a kaleidoscope of creativity.

I've noticed a lot of influence came from Pink Floyd as well as the Beatles, but mostly Pink Floyd. Everytime I listen to SD in particular.
People need to hear the bands Can and This Heat. They are the 2 greatest bands. Their music is beyond anything, and your favourite band's favourite band. Listen to Tago Mago by Can. Maybe that's a double album. No band can do what they did. The amazing vocalist died last month which sucks. Only the keyboard player remains. He is the oldest as well. Long live Irmin!

After living thought the 90’s Grunge and Alt music scene, this album stands up to the test of time.
Pumpkins bring back memories of days gone by. Alt music festivals. 20-something adult love. Hanging with your friends at the bar on new alt music night. No worries. No cares. Summer nights at the hot club patio deck with your girl.
I miss the 90's too.
No politics no social justice just a manifesto of fun and laughs.
The Smashing Pumpkins 🎃 will and forever be the greatest band of there era, and beyond.
This album is a strong argument for that claim.
I had this on cassette tape and listened to it on the bus to school all the time. Cassette players did not go through batteries as fast as a CD player (and didn't skip.). I love this album so much.
The opening of this album is a masterful use of minor scales.

TODAY, and it would do very well and nobody would notice that it was recorded in the 1990's,
whereas "Siamese Dream" is OBVIOUSLY a 90's Record,
I mean it could only have come
from that place in time.
"Melancholy And The Infinite Sadness"
has a timeless quality to it...
within reason,
it's certainly a post 1980's record,
but it could have come out in 1992,
or 2015, or even tomorrow and it would probably be just as successful.

Man! Who doesn't love the smashing pumpkins and this album. I had a chance to see them when I was a kid downtown Minneapolis block party, and my aunt never bothered taken me because she figured I was to young. I sure wish I would've gotten to see them. . I'm wearing the smashing pumpkins Mellon collie and the infinite sadness. I'm an 1983 baby born March 31, and 41 years old. This album takes me back to my childhood when I was a teenager and makes me feel young again and free spirited.

It has six sides. Dawn, Tea Time, Dusk, Twilight, Midnight and Starlight. For the cd version it's Dawn to Dusk and Twilight to Starlight.
