- The band OMD - Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - helped define the electronic pop sound of the 1980s. Their catchy, danceable and substantial electronic music blend is built on melody and melancholia, created with keyboards, synths, sexy saxophone and drums. OMD reformed just over a decade ago and picked up where they left off - and they have a new record, "The Punishment of Luxury," which is out on Sept.1.

100%. The problem is that you'd need several more people on the keyboards here. Not much to see if everything's coming back from a sequencer. If you want to see an impressive performance there's the one on here from Portishead performing Third live (the entire album) on French tv.

They passed the torch to Liverpool, and it couldn't have landed in better hands. OMD is the premiere electronic band, surpassing the tired, bored offerings of Erasure and Depeche Mode. I can't believe I'm saying that, but it's true.
@@thirdlantern pet shop boys are also as great as them at the same level although OMD didn't get as popular for some reason
@@thirdlanternI feel like after the disappointing spirit the recent DM album memento Mori is actually really good. I'd rate it an 8/10 the same as I'd give Bauhaus staircase. Both great releases!
@@dominicaaaaa5547 I agree! Memento Mori is special. I hear so many elements of their prime, but it sounds new and engaging.
Omd's new stuff is a poor mans Kraftwerk .Listen to their first 3 lps and this in comparison is tripe.
