Alone in the Dark (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S) is the new and improved 2024 update of a survival horror classic. Let's chat. - Игры
I didn't love it, but I still think some of you should check it out eventually
Definitely, I can't get enough of Resident Evil-like games
I definitely will check it out at some point. I do take Jake's reviews with a grain of salt like he says. I've got some good games from Jake also played ones he likes but they were not for me .😅
I will but I still have to play Alan Wake 2 and RE4 Remake first 😵
Def looks like a good 20-30 dollar game. Patient gamers unite!
I’m expecting it to be on a subscription service eventually.
I got it, because I want to support developers that try to do the more OG survival horror titles and I dig the New Orleans backdrop. I also like the simplicity of only having 3 guns.
Praying it inspires more old horror games to get remade, here's to hoping the devs from Obscure make a remake of 1 and 2.
Good luck on finding that second gun
NEW SET UP IS AMAZING
Thank you!!! Still tweaking it but I'm really happy with it so far
@@JakeBaldino You went from after-college apartment to dad cave lol
More like gothic Victorian academia 😅 and it’s awesome 👏
It’s got Alone in the Dark vibes
The Jake Cave
I still want to play it because I want to encourage these devs to take the feedback and improve themselves if they plan to make sequels.
Damn. A reasonable gamer. It's increasingly rare these days so congrats
It’s $60. I’m happy to support a dev but the price point has to make sense. It doesn’t in this case
This is the 8th game..
People should support it because this game helped to inspire Capcom to make Resident Evil.
@@bizmonkey007it’s on sale on Steam already, for some reason in Malaysia it’s around US $30 (RM120). Very tempting.
Honestly, I haven’t had so much fun playing a survival horror game in years.
I love that the puzzles are actually difficult and the story is intriguing instead of all the resident evil games with go get the bad guy explosion at the end. It had twist and turns I didn’t see you coming. I like that the combat is finicky.
You had me at difficult puzzles. Getting it
Damn Jake, I love the dark ambiance of the new room.
I literally just finished Alan Wake 2, Dead Space, Callisto Protocol (now doing DLC) so Alone in the Dark couldn’t come at a more perfect time for me. Gonna pick this up sometime soon
Why would you pick this up knowing that it isn’t a complete product?
Don’t. I just refund the game on Xbox. It’s horrible, unplayable
In my opinion this is a MUST for horror fans! So creepy and scary. Especially in the swamps.
It’s not perfect but if you’re a hardcore horror fan, especially as a fan of Lovecraft. You’ll love this.
I'm a hardcore horror fan an brought it yesterday like. So many gamers are spoiled with triple aaa games with big budgets put into em. An not many gamers likes or appreciates double aa games.
My 8 hour experience agrees with you. So glad I tried it. Deserves an audience.
@@raynerkane7478 Except that this "AA" game is priced at $60.. that's simply not a price fitting for a AA game
@aerosw1ft I paid £47.00 in my local game store I personally think it's a decent price, could off been £70 if you know what I mean like majority of games are price at now a days. I'm absolutely" loving it an I'm happy paying £47 then £70 if you feel me pal. I think THQ Nordic done a Great job with AITD Reimagine. it's not perfect' of course not but it's good like with the Atmosphere, sound, acting, the story writing good well personally' imo it is like I dunno about others like. all I've mostly been seeing is positive stuff about AITD Reimagine like then negative stuff about it and I'm glad I've hardly seen any negative stuff about it. cuz I'm a hardcore survival horror fan' and I'm absolutely loving it and glad I get to Experience a Reimagine version of the og AITD as I Didn't knew about it as a kid nor did my dad like. but I guess it's each to there own how much double AA Games should be at but like I said I think THQ Nordic done such an Great job not saying they done a perfect job. I'm saying they" done a great job and I'm happy with paying £47.00 considering most games I do get I'm having to Splash out 70 on em like.
You’re 100% right
Almost ignored it but gave it a chance. Just came away from an 8 hour streamed play. Absolutely soaked in cosmic horror noir vibes. Love the tone, writing and pacing. Unique horror game. Deserves to find its nieche audience.
So you chose to watch instead of Play? To each their own
@@Alien_isolationist Not that meaning but rather I streamed my own playing of the game.
duuude the setup looks incredible!!
Thanks!! It's finally coming along
I was never expecting this to be on the same level as RE2 Remake not even close , but as average as it looks there's some special vibe about this game that reminds me of games like Grim Fandango.
60.00 is just too much for this. It should have retailed for about 30-40 dollars.
@@MLK-KAEFENTERPRISESyeah $60 is crazy, there’s so many expensive games that come out now that are just, meh
This game is not even close to Days Gone and I give Days gone a solid 8 .
I’m really liking the game. Great graphics, smooth 60fps, awesome atmosphere and setting, and the combat is very similar to the Resident Evil games in terms of shooting mechanics. It actually surpassed my expectations, but maybe mine weren’t as high as yours.
I’m currently midway through Chapter 3 and I’m enjoying it a lot. The puzzles and exploration are great as is the variety in environments.
Combat is frankly bad, but it’s manageable and can be fun sometimes.
It’s a solid 7/10. I’m enjoying how twisty and extravagant the story is
Did you ever finish it? What’s your rating now if so?
1. That’s too bad. I really was rooting for the game as I have fond memories of playing (struggling) with the original. Still will buy and play it, just to encourage the devs.
2. Jake’s office is looking really nice! Good to see he finally set it up.
Went in blind and loved it. Bugs were the only thing that holds it back imo.
I'll get it on sale when it's patched hell yeah
Horror in movies is literally all about something being terrible and loving it.
You're not the only person that I watch reviews from but you are the main person I watch reviews from. You're the only person I've found that has the perspective of 'I want to find what I love in life... and this game', which is the perspective that I find most useful. Life is to be lived.
The survival/action horror genre is on a roll right now. With the Dead Space and RE4 remakes, Alan Wake 2 (My GOTY) Amnesia The Bunker, SIGNALIS etc.
At least its not a Callisto Protocol. I'll be getting it knowing that it has its problems.
After playing Alone in the dark I think the roll has stopped . This game is awful .
whats wrong with callisto ? i just got it on sale but havent played it yet
I beat one of the campaigns. Gonna take a break and then I’ll do the other. I give the game a C. I enjoyed it! But i felt it needed some improvements. And while yes. It’s not as big a budget game as say the Resident Evil games, Alan Wake 2, or Dead Space remake. Some of the flaws aren’t related to the budget but the design choices. Games like Alisa, Signalis, and Tormented Souls are lower budget games, but I still would rank them higher.
I think my biggest issue in the game is SPOILER
Once you realize no enemies will spawn in the mansion itself. You always end up going to an alternative reality. Granted. Some of these do happen at random. But they’re so rare. So once you realize this, you can just run around the house solving puzzles and getting collectibles no problem.
Bought it because I love this genre and I love cosmic horror. I’m excited to play it even if it’s not perfect I remember seeing the reviews for sinking city and I actually really liked that game so I take what I hear with a grain of salt.
My parents and older brother would love the game for sure.
Your room is looking GOOD! The vibes are spot on for what I thought you’d do!
If anyone is interested in this game AT ALL show support. I hope this series comes back and sticks.❤
Im waiting for an "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem" remake. Game was a masterpiece, still replay it this day on my GameCube.
That game is amazing, I used to own it.
We need a Beyond Good & Evil Remake too, and a Rayman 2 Remake.
@@leadme2thebliss21Yeees! I love Beyond good and evil 🥰
And Dino Crisis too.
Still can’t wait to check it out.
As a horror game fan, I think this actually was a top 10 all time for me. I was engaged from beginning to end.
The new room is starting to look incredible! 😮
Shame to hear that it wasn't as good as you hoped. Maybe if it wasn't at full price, more people would buy it, though, since it does have potential.
Between this and Dragons Dogma 2 the answer might be easy. I hope they recover the money
I thought the reviews for DD2 were pretty good ?
@@ethanak123 They are. It's just that the vast amount of negative reviews are just people complaining about the microtransactions that don't matter at all unless you want to get items early rather then finding them ingame.
One thing I have heard is that this is a great gateway drug to survival horror. Skill up said that he's kind of a scaredy cat and this game was really a nice entry point for him and now he's actually kind of hungry to go play more
It wasn't Ralph (Skill Up) that did that video.
@@cmdr.jabozerstorer3968 really? My bad I watched a lot of reviews
@@cmdr.jabozerstorer3968 wait a second yes it was. I just rewached it
It was Austin lol
I’ve never seen a game with such massive contrasts in review scores
I think my favorite little thing was the character putting his hand on the banister. It never occurred to me how many games have banisters and handrails and no one ever uses them 😅
I didn't even notice that, and I've already played through the game twice! It's a nice little detail indeed
New office room is lookin' good Jake. Vvvv good stuff
I am really enjoying it!
Great atmosphere!
Really good graphics!
And most of all its Survival Horror!!
To be fair, I never expected a game from a smaller developer with history involving SOMA's development to operate at the same level as, say, the Dead Space remake or the modern Resi titles. Having played the original back in the day, I expected a game that developed its atmosphere using something other than tense encounters - and I got exactly that. The tension was in Derceto itself, in the patients all having that distinct "Roaring Twenties Antebellum Sanatorium" thing going for them, in the VO'd documents and the sense of history provided to the place.
Yes, the shooting model was subpar and the enemy designs aren't jaw-dropping, but this isn't exactly trying to be a Resident Evil. I never played the initial "Alone in the Dark" because I expected inventive models; we barely had fifteen polygons to work with for the entire game! I'm deliberately exaggerating, yes, but the initial game expected you to provide a lot of imagination and forward thinking to its combat encounters, both in how to solve them and how to handle them more traditionally. If anything, I'm actually sad that the game calls "'tossing a rock or a brick" an "opportunity attack", seeing as you're never really given a chance to exploit the environment to get rid of the rank-and-file baddies, the way the first game asked you to.
Good take. I’m in the ‘support it anyway’ camp, and I’m not that far in but so far have enjoyed the game. Perhaps after I’m done I’ll have stronger opinions. I’m feeling the missed potential thing, though, and absolutely loved ‘New Nightmare’ - this was one of the very first video games I played on PC when I started to get back into them as a young adult. Laughed very hard when you in the ’BYB’ vid kept saying “Older-School,” basically calling out people like me who are … well, Old. And that’s fair. And funny. 😄
Huge set up upgrade Jake !! looks lush
Just by looking at this game, it seems they did a MUCH better job at rebooting their series more than Konami has with Silent Hill so ill give them a major break.
Thank you for all the effort you put into this video s 😊🍕
It's a hidden gem. Gmanlives gave a great and detailed review. He really likes the game a lot. I think gamers should look at his review to see the other side of the coin.
The Vessi sponsorship was cool to see. I remember backing them on Kickstarter a long time ago. I will check these out with your link
I bought the game earlier yesterday then end up falling asleep waiting for the release 😅 finna play now and just enjoy the experience for what it is. I dont expect this game to be objectively better than the new resident evil remakes or dead space especially from a smaller team of devs with no prior release of this magnitude from what i researched.. im just happy i get to experience this game in some form of fashion now modernized yet still feeling traditionally old at the same time..i hope anyone else who picks it up will enjoy it as a survival horror fan..
Ooh wee that room lookin good! 👍
The reviews of the main game seem to reflect how I felt about the demo….wispy and bare branches substantive-wise, yet simultaneously many different visuals going on.
I love puzzles, horror and period pieces, but evidence of it being very mixed probably means this one is going to be bought later on in a sale.
Room is looking good Jake 👍👍
I pre-ordered digital deluxe edition days ago for Xbox. I haven't played the game yet, but im sure I will enjoy it. I like David Harbour so yea
Things are on the walls! Looking forward to the inevitable room tour video!
Really enjoying this game so far want more of these games coming so they got my money!
The room is looking good!
love that black setting behind you! really nice!
I bought the game because I want them to have another shot at a sequel to build on what they've done and address the things that don't work. So far I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.
I'm a fan of the Alone in the dark series, so this was always on my hit list, I had a feeling it my fall short of expectations, but I'm a very forgiving gamer, so I'm still gonna give it a chance, but taking all your points on board from both videos
The office is looking nice man!!!
Cant believe I was never subbed to you, love your gameranx videos!
thanks! glad you found me
Alone in the dark a new nightmare is what got me into horror games, i remember being like 4 or 5 and peaking into my uncles room while he was up late and i asked what he was playing and he said scooby doo and invited me in and i remember pissing my pants when i saw one of the cutscenes. Been obsessed w horror and that feeling ever since. Im ngl i love playing horror games on lsd
I'm only about 3 hours in but I think it's awesome. Its got a classic survival horror feel to it. The combat is pretty bad but my favorite game of all time, Silent Hill 2 has terrible combat but these types of games you don't play because of the combat. It sucks cause rise of the ronin and Dragons dogma 2 come out tomorrow so it's gonna be a busy month but I'm definitely excited to get back to alone in the dark.
Let's talk about this SET! JAKE! The set is looking MINT! I can smell the leather bound books and rich mahogany through the screen!
But legit, if you were going for that Bruce Wayne sort of vibes, you NAILED it! Great job!
Love the room in the background Jake
Look at that Batcave finally on shape 🔥🔥 nice studio Jake 👌🏻👌🏻 where is the Metal Gear collection behind you? 👀
Just because someone likes/doesn’t like a game, doesn’t mean it will be the same for you. Just play what you want and don’t worry about everyone’s opinions. Make up your own minds.
He already said that lol
bro finally got the setup. it looks dope so far
Love the background aesthetic on this video
I imagine Jake purposely walking in the puddles then acting like it was nothing😂
Everything I'm seeing from people I like to listen to indicates that I shouldn't buy it now but should probably check it out when it's on a deep sale.
I was pretty hopeful for this one, this series deserves its place in gaming history even though it's not as prolific as other horror titles. But ultimately I don't think it's been good since the PlayStation 1
I loved it actually ... as I expected because I played a similar experience like Call of Cthulhu ,Sinking city.. psychological horror is right at my alley not just jumpscares.
Its one of these games where right now mostly got ngative scores but after like 5 or 10 years people will be like " Yeah this game was great, yes it has its flaws but the oldschool vibe etc etc:...''
Yeah, something like Silent Hill 4: The Room imo. Hated at first, but lately only heard praises about it
Can’t wait to play it this week! Hopefully it’s just uphill from here for this franchise.
DUDE your backdrop is SICK. Good stuff.
I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition of the 2008 Alone in the Dark... which ended up at a pawn shop a few days later. The original game was a long time ago, I can't remember specifics... but I do recall the game pulled you into it's eerie atmosphere. The game was fascinating, graphics and perspective was revolutionary (for its time!) and if I recall... it wasn't easy to survive! The 2008 version was none of those things.
The office finally done ey, looks dope!! How about a tour?
7 hours in and I agree 100% it’s so close but the combat mechanics miss but I love the puzzles(no googling) and lay out of the house was fun and save system was very smooth.
How do you feel about the story I haven't played the game yet but did you at least joy the story?
The jazz score is a complex reference to Twin Peaks, which has the same mystical vibes.
Dude Room taking shape! It's looks awesome! Right out of the resident evil Manor ❤️
Never heard of it but just saw it on steam, seems interesting. Still gonna get it
People don’t mention Evil Within as much as they should
Love your reviews
thank you!
We are totally opposite. Just finished it. And i blew my mind 😂😂
Room looks classy as hell 🎉
I see this game like Frogware's The Sinking City... a janky AA horror -- with some problems -- that I still want to buy and play because I want the series to continue. Now, will I pay almost full price for the experience? No... but I also won't wait until it's rock bottom pricing either. I want to encourage AA (and indie) game development as much as possible.
Arriving today looking forward to actually finishing a game due to its normal length:)
I personally love horror !weather it's movies or games I'm still going to check it out!!!
David Harbour was also in a movie called End Watch its a pretty good movie
I’m definitely a horror fan that’s more forgiving. I’ve sat through a bunch of bad horror movies in the past just because I love the genre.
The room in the background looks lit, Jake 😎🔥
I plan on picking it up tbh, love the setting and I honestly never wanted it to be similar to RE. Because as much as I love the RE franchise I just wanted something different.
Thq-Nordic is the so much potential almost there company but can’t never come true all the way
This game sounds cool! I wanted to play an Alone in the dark game for a long time. I will definitely buy it on sale in a few years.
Been getting that DIY down Jake? 😆Set looks great!
Your room is looking sweet, man!
Thanks!
This game will look great on sale. 😊
the background looks sick af
I enjoyed it a lot. Combat was mid but didn’t bother me that much. Definitely recommend it, especially if you like Lovecraft
I grew up with my dad playing the original alone in the dark trilogy before jumping into the new nightmare, years later.
I cant remember which game it was but there was a clown thing in a room with a kid and a guy tried to save the kid but this clown would move closer and eventually get him... That was my introduction to the franchise, behind my dads desk chair, in the mid 90s
It had a much smaller team and budget than a AAA Resident Evil title. If it had been a 40 $50 game editions rather than 60 $70 game, I think the reception would’ve been totally different. If you want a pricing structure like the big boys, you have to bring equal equality to the big boys. If they would’ve used combat like a puzzle mechanic in the first game and gone with Code Veronica or RE1 remake camera presentation, it would’ve been easier on the budget and it would’ve been a much more unique experience in this landscape. It’s like the high school kid that takes on all the trappings of everyone else and gets picked on even more for it when they could’ve just been unapologetic with their own identity.
Edit:
I did pick it up only because I want to support anyone even trying to do anything even 10% different than everyone else and because they are including all the DLC Deluxe Edition nonsense for the same $60 right now on Steam as it should’ve been from the start for adding 15% discount to make an acceptable price.
I remember playing the original Alone in the Dark on my Panasonic REAL 3DO! The REEEAAAL 3DO! I loved that game even with all the jank.
Loving your new setup, Jake! Any chance you have a gramophone to accompany that wingback chair?
Oh! Your room is randomly completed! How good does it look!
New setup goes so hard
I’m not a fashion guy at all, I have like 5 or 6 t shirts and Walmart blue jeans I wear on cycle. But I’ve got to say, that jacket is really nice. I’d like to get one of those.
Evil Within 2 is my favorite horror game. No one talks about it. Silent Hill Downpour, love it. Hated by nearly everyone. I hate 4 and people love it. Loved Parasite Eve 2. People seem to only care about 1. Alone in the Dark 4 was good from the little I played. It's never mentioned. Soma another obscure favorite. PT a hall way Sim. Beloved. Was trash. I only cared about the trailer at the end. So yeah I don't trust opinions on horror. Should have gave the Inferno game a chance
Am loving it
What ive found out about these types of games is that they are SO much more fun when youre not paying for them. I played The Order 1886, Alan Wake and Callisto Protocol all in the last year from PS+ or for less than $5, and i honestly really loved them. But i would be kinda disappointed if i spent $60-70 on them.
