I think because I posted a link my comment got removed. So, HAMRS at build-time pulls a CSV that POTA provides, converts it, and saves it for offline use. The newer version of HAMRS will still do this, but also have a live DB to talk to if you have an internet connection. In the interim, does anyone know if the POTA folks plan to update the CSV they provide when the prefixes change over?
Hey good to see you here. Yeah, RUclips does that. And now we have our answer from you too! Can't help you with the CSV info though. Hopefully someone will see this and get you the info you need.
FYI about Open Source. Just because an app is Open Source doesn't mean it needs to accept all contributions. Whoever leads the project can decide what is accepted. All projects need steering. The difference is anyone can make a new copy and go their own way adding what they want to it under a new name. Regardless, Jarrett doesn't need to open source it. It is his code and his choice. Managing an open source project is a HUGE commitment and I can understand why he might not want to. He made it, its his baby. We are grateful for it no matter the license, because more software for hams is better. If people are upset by that, they should make their own and open source it. That is the way of open source.
Thanks Mike for letting me and others know about the changes with POTA and the new classifications and how to get around it. Also, Thanks to the Hamrs developer for what he did. I did send him a donation when I downloaded it. I only got into POTA after finding out about the Hamrs software through your channel, since I didn't know how to convert to what POTA wanted. I did SOTA as their logging was easy for me. Now I don't have to bust my butt climbing mountains to have fun, I can drive to my activation.😀 Thanks for being there. Steve, k7ofg.
I have a question. It’s about the sent/received box in hamrs. Kinda a 2 part question. Does pota require matching number for both parties and or is there a way to change the default 59 in both boxes?
In POTA only the activator submits a log so matching signal report numbers aren't even a thing. You can change the signal report in HAMRS by simply touching the field and entering in whatever you want. But still, signal reports don't matter for confirming contacts. I give real signal reports on the air but I log everyone 59 because it just doesn't matter. Now when I'm at home on my computer using my main logging software I will record the actual signal reports, but that's mostly because I'm not trying to rack up as many contacts as possible.
Yep ! I heard about it Thursday from a Canadian operator when we done a park to park no more VE now it’s CA thanks brother for putting it out to us POTA operators !
I have been arguing with people online forever about how we dont need park numbers and Im always met with "You do for 2-fers, etc" and I am glad you finally are proving me right. I hunt from parks all the time and never call "park to park" or let them know Im in a park and it always shows up as a P2P in my POTA logs.
How do you log P2P 2-fers to get credit for both parks ? Please let me know. I know if just a normal P2P ( one park only) yes it is down automatically.
Mike, Mike, Mike just got my General upgrade today N6BAR/AG. Thanks, for all your content, reviews, suggestions and that energy. Keep doing what your doing... Looking forward to QRP POTA!
Mike, my pota map was not working. So i tried switching the data base it uses. Using Ham DB and also, after each time i hit Enter, I hit the cog wheel and hit look up next to each QSO. Now it works
I agree 100%. We're Hams we make it work. Side note: I know the park # doesn't matter on the pota page but I like to log all my hunter qsos too. Let's say you are activating a park in Italy...when I log you it shows you in your home QTH. Is there anyway around that? So the QSO show where the activator really is at?
I use a notepad and pencil/pen to manually enter my logs into the POTA portal. /shrug, no big deal for me. Also, when I'm activating I've given my park due to the hunter not using POTA to spot the parks, so they may hear me key POTA and not know what park I'm activating. Why are you against open source?
I gave up using HAMRs on my Mac anyway. I couldn’t export the log. Just using RUMlogNG and exporting from there. Not sure what’s wrong w it, but I know there’s no support. Bummer.
Question, when I'm activating and I work somebody in a twofer, won't I lose the park to park on the second Park if I don't enter it in the app, k-1234,K-0000 ? Isn't that the purpose hammers make it a duplicate log and it shows up twice automatically? And can I log aprs contacts. Haha
When using an iPad (or any device with built in GPS?) I still get the grid square by clicking the locate icon next to grid square. This worked from a new 5 digit park last month even though HAMRS did not know what park I was in. Agree Mike, we will adapt and overcome. I do hope for a new and improved HAMRS version soon. But the one I have works and I’ll keep using it until it doesn’t work or I find a different PATA logging program I love more.
When I activate a new 5 digit park, HAMRS defaults to a 4 digit and plugs in the wrong GRID SQUARE Afterwards, I use ADIF MASTER to correct my log. I hope he updates it someday, because I really like HAMRS

For Activators ---- In HAMRS on iOS, when activating with a 5-digit park, don't fill in the park number if you are planning to upload to LOTW to give credit to huntes for grids/counties. If you enter the 5-digit park, it will pull the grid for the first 4-digts of the park, i.e. k-12345 would pull as K-1234, which will not be correct. When I create a log, I don't enter a park number in HAMRS and create a new location in TQSL for that location, which will populate the upon upload to LOTW.
The current version of TQSL has a checkbox to tell it to use the location from your log instead of having to create a new location for that grid square in TQSL.
OMG! Everyone run around like chickens with their heads chopped off! The sky is falling! LOLZ! It's about time that POTA entities align with the ISO standard. I've dealt with the ISO standard with my job for a few years. The issue with the US 5-digit parks was if you where activating such a park, HAMRS only recognized the first 4 numbers, giving you the incorrect grid square .All you had to do was enter your proper grid square in the app. BADDA BING! BADDA BOOM! I've heard that Jarrett jumped up to fix HAMRS (had hired a developer, but think he's going to do it himself to get it done quicker) with the recent changes to the POTA program. 73!

That's all you need to do (or should) in WSJT-X settings. Everything else is just making contacts. Again, park numbers mean nothing. You could do an entire POTA activation on FT8 and not tell anyone you're there. Once you load your log to POTA, anyone who works you will get credit for working you at that park. But I always change my grid square in WSJT-X to reflect where I'm operating from.
I got all excited with the "Big Changes to POTA!" and after you said the prefixes were changing, and that's it, thought to myself "That's the big changes??". I guess if one is excited about watching paint dry! 😆
Thanks for the video… Unfortunately, I would guess that 90+% of the mobile populace is not aware that JG doesn’t generate much of anything off the iOS App Store… So, you have a whole bunch of people who have paid money for a seemingly unsupported app. No matter the excuse, that’s not good and serves as a solid argument for pushing it to open source… potentially. Granted, I believe the ask price for the app was on the cheap, but people are still paying for it and downloading it off of iOS to the best of my knowledge. If I am wrong, I’m totally up for correction. In concept form, the software is sweet, in delivery, it’s a different argument - unfortunately. Anyway, just my two cents. It’s kinda like a great family recipe, hard to let go of it if you ever have aspirations of any sort of monetary profit. Hat’s off to all the GNUists and the like. 73
Hi Mike, POTA changing the park references in the “UK” is absolutely the wrong thing to do. The “UK” is made up of 7 different countries/entities all of which have separate ITU prefixes. To put them all together as the “UK” is a very poor decision. It’s like having all North American countries as US.
Good video. The Hamrs devs should still update their software though. Edit: Looks like yhe Hamrs dev is on it but the Pota folks need to get their act together still. Jarret should include a tip or "buy me coffee" link inside the app. I dont mind tipping for a great product.
Excuse me? What exactly do you think "the Pota folks" need to accomplish? We've been running a completely free system for nearly 6 years with similar uptime to the Google search page. Our act is together sir. We've scaled from supporting 1,000 users to over 50,000 users in those 6 years.

Thanks for the update and assurances about HAMRS and changes to POTA. I love HAMRS for general day-to-day logging both in the shack and on /P activations - it's simplicity is it's strength. I can export logs and put them anywhere else (for me it's QRZ & eQSL) or edit them etc. Do I have my own pet ideas I wish it had - of course I do but so does everyone else. KISS rules for HAMRS. Excuse me? What exactly do you think "the Pota folks" need to accomplish? We've been running a completely free system for nearly 6 years with similar uptime to the Google search page. Our act is together sir. We've scaled from supporting 1,000 users to over 50,000 users in those 6 years.
@@de_w8tam I don't know. From another reply it sounded like the dev was waiting for something from y'all.
@@froal4579 He never contacted us directly. I only noticed this thread because of someone screenshotting it and posting it on Facebook. There's many published ways to contact POTA support, but RUclips comments are not one of them.
Uncle Sugar!?!
Oh that's a new one!
@@hamradiotube I thought of it during your video and near choked on a tater tot!

I don't know though...we're hams. We kinda want to fix the things that already work lol!
NO. Everything doesn't work just fine ... until grid squares are populated.
You lost me at hamburger.
See...now I want a hamburger! I hope you want one too now.
Thanks for being a calm voice of reason on the migration! Also the little call-out, glad you remember me :) de W8MSC
One never forgets their POTA Elmer.
Our prefix changed from OE to AT and HAMRS still works fine.. 73 de George AH6UN / OE4JHW
Oh Mike, sad hams solving their own bitches? Maybe when cats and dogs... anyway. 🦧

I wish they did something that required activators to list their radio, antenna and watts used.
Why?? That has nothing to do with making contacts.
We're not likely to ever REQUIRE that, but in the future we might make use of some of those fields. 73
Because if somebody is in my skip circle, say Texas or North Carolina, I should typically hear them unless they are running QRP or something.@@hamradiotube
