    Thanks for watching guys, and sorry for the syncing issues. My network connection apparently was not very stable. My ISP really oscillates with the performance it seems.
    Anyway, what do you think about the DF54?

      Haha, tell me about it. Happens too often. But yes, this is pretty sweet. Feels a fair bit nicer than the D40, too. I think it'll be a good seller when it's in stock.

    This price point blows my mind. Especially if they release more 54 burrs for this unit in the future, it still keeps it at an affordable price after those upgrades! Well done! 💯

    As someone with a DF64 gen 1 with mods and SSPMPs it is cool to see Turin/Mii innovating so fast. And that they seem to be taking feedback from the coffee community in real time. Though it does seem like the reviewers are the alpha and beta testers and they eventually get it hammered out. Nice video! I would be interested in your follow up on what the popcorn device looks like and to see if it works.

    I think this may just be the upgrade to my ESP I didn't know I was looking for. The DF64 is just too much of a price jump. Or at least I think so, as someone who likes a typical Neapolitan blend and is not big into SO.
    As always, thank you for bringing the enjoyable and informative content!

    Turin/Mii's abillty to churn out so many variants since the original 64 is amazing. This 54 is gonna challenge the likes of Baratza and some hand grinders even.

    I have the DF64 Gen 2 with DLC burrs and I'm very happy with it. This new DF54 looks like a very good value for the money. About the only downside I see is that, being 64mm the standard, I don't think you'll have the option to install a different set of burrs like SSP if you want to upgrade in the future. Or maybe the manufacturer will launch different burrs for those who want a different flavor profile.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  7 месяцев назад

      That's true, 54mm is kinda uncommon afaik.

  • @hansjorg7828

    Thanks Tom again! 54mm? The same size as the Eureka-Mignons. (?) I think this is an interesting competitor....
    ECP and DF54 seems to be the ideal starter configuration at the moment ;-)

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  7 месяцев назад

      The Eureka Mignons are either 50 or 55mm, some are larger in their Turbo line. But yes, very similar.
      ECP + DF54 would make an excellent bargain combo. Cheers!

      I think this will quickly cannabilize the D40+ sales.

    • @TexRobNC
      @TexRobNC 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner So make of this what you will, but they had been listing open box D40+ for $149, now they have one for $139. I wonder if the D40+ is gonna drop to $179 or 189 US sometime soon? It makes sense, and makes it extremely attractive. I'm loving mine, just sat down after grinding some more on day 2 with the 40+. EDIT: it just dawned on me, yes, the D40+ might drop in price, but there is zero reason to do it since the DF54 doesn't hit until almost April. My guess is they will stock up on D40+, and drop it's price right as the 54 hits so that when it sells out, people have a nice fallback option.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  7 месяцев назад

      Well I would have to compare them side by side with the same beans, and the encore is a conical grinder vs this flat.
      That being said, I think this will ultimately do better on taste, and while I prefer products that are designed in the USA, this one is undoubtedly better build quality and sweeter design all around. The "plasma generator" is pretty sweet too, and the grounds come out looking fluffy and beautiful. At least those are my initial impressions.

    Looks like the dial will make more sense than my Mignon. That thing has ZERO sense of the grind step its at. Nothing you can really mark and repeat. Always waste a couple pulls to get it back to the right spot. If you do any grinding with drip range then back to espresso...FORGETTABOUT IT!.
    I wonder if the burrs are "standard" height and screw or blind, so they can be replaced with other brand burrs...?

    • @philindeblanc
      @philindeblanc 7 месяцев назад

      I guess you touch on the burrs towards the end, and since its only 17 hours from upload, I doubt you know too much more about that, LOL. cheers. I do love the Mignon, but I hate that I dont know what setting its on, and that I dont like this ones dosing. But, not willing to shell out too much for one that is as good in performance. The 55mm(its actually 54mm) runs with a 300 or 320watt motor, so this being 150 is not really a confidence booster on its long life, and like you did do a cold start, which I have been running this grinder for years on a cold start with zero issues on the densest of beans, so maybe some tougher beans, maybe out of the freezer can stump it? lol. I actually think the 53-56mm range would be the sweet spot for single dosing, but, I dont know...and I cant see a reason why a 84mm would make better espresso? I have YET to see a video explaining anything in this area; 54mm vs 60 or 80+mm burrs making any flavor difference that you cant get with smaller burrs. Even if the conclusion is undetermined, Y has no videos of this, and would be a popular one (hurry before Lance does one).

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  7 месяцев назад +1

      You're right about the Mignon dial - they are super tough to dial in between brew methods. I just leave it at espresso.
      I agree that the Mignon's 310 watt motor gives me more confidence than a 150 watt motor, but it's still better than most grinders in this price range.
      Finally, I also don't think that I can determine a difference in 83 vs 54mm burrs. For me, it's just a time savings, to have larger burrs. Maybe they make a slight difference in heat dissipation, but I highly doubt that would make a difference that I could perceive in taste.
      In fact, I think that the burrs for home grinders have just been getting larger and larger to increase revenue for manufacturers.
      All that being said, I imagine someone like Lance could point out differences between burrs (their geometries for sure, but maybe size too?). But for normal users, I don't think it makes a veritable difference.

    • @philindeblanc
      @philindeblanc 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the feedback, gives me a bit of reassurance :-) Im enjoying your perspective, and I will chime in, in the future about taste profiles, on how suggestive wording actually makes you think of the notes descrived, and your brain is usually the one recolecting the falvor, and why you think of it, as the tastes we get are not much of what we really get from the cup. But more on that and the psychology another time. Cheers!@@TomsCoffeeCorner
