- People say buying a used race car is the cheapest and easiest way to get on track. We're going to test that theory with our $500 Volkswagen Fox.
See the build thread for our Volkswagen Fox:

As a brazillian, it's really weird to see someone working on these in America. These (originally called Voyage) are all over the place here.
Definitely. It would be awesome if someone imports a Brazil-market Gol (not Golf) to the US for Lemons racing.
It was actually all jetta wiring transplant. The left overs were rear harness for fuel pump and lights, wipers. Took some time to cut out all the unused parts cause it was not needed. Did not come with obd1 diagnostic port in original jetta; previous owner cut it out. The oil filter mount had to be swapped too, its very specific to fox. Glad you making it work again!
Man, that VW Fox body is so clean. No rust or anything like that. Here in New England area, absolutely no classic 80 and 90's cars that clean. I spend most of the time fixing rust than anything else.
some cars are most prone to rust than others, the fox is made in brazil and was the most popular car here back in the days. As a poor country we se a LOT of them at the street even today and they handle the years very good, unlike chevettes, escorts and other cars sold here in the same period.
2:50 poor AP
brazil has a big afther market for it
My first car was a Fox Coupe! Kinda wish I still had it now.
This engine has so much potencial
I hope to see more content like this from grassroots. Great job keep it up.
We have more Fox Videos on the way!
The Right Stuff is amazing. stopped the leaking between engine and trans on my mini even in full race trim.
This is pretty much how all my stuff goes too - great to see I"m not the only one that suffers from these kinds of project workflows! Pretty sure my Lemon's car is half made of gasket maker by now too.
Never realized the fox engine bay was so small, especially compared to the audi 4000/vw quantum.
i.ytimg.com/vi/6z67cUVL_nE/maxresdefault.jpg surprise mdfka
the quantum was a passat-variant chassis, much larger than the golf/jetta/fox layout. the big thing with the room is the longitudinally mounted engine. in a jetta/golf theres plenty of room because it's transverse
So the engine just bolted onto the transmission no problem?
Would it not have been easier to pull all of the wiring and do it all over again with the already mounted and known engine?

Fellas, 🤦🏽♂️...I get it but ... I don't think that is the "Grassroots Motorsports" we're into. 🤣
Normally we wouldn't do that but... Volkswagen.
@@Grassrootsmotorsports 😧 Ooh, sod to hear that. ...😶
I bought a new 1988 VW Fox 2 door wagon (sportwagen?). A cheap but nice little car. One of the main differences was that the Fox engine mounts longitudinally with Golf/Jetta mounting transverse. Hence, I guess, differences in oil pan, oil filter, etc.. and width of the engine bay.
Am looking a lsd fa my fox. Am in Jamaica
That aba makes more power than that rv from the mk2... maybe get an obd1 tb and run the aba on the digifant 2 ecm from the mk2 Jetta
Exactly - I run a ABA bottom with MK2 head, all DiGI-II wiring harness - it's pretty easy.
If that was an AP engine you just threw away...go get it back.
You'll need it.
If it wasn't. Then it's all good.
AP-2000, i think.
I'm friends with the previous owner of that car. he just recently blew up his Golf..... man us VW guys have an illness!
