Thank You, Billy, for covering Blaze Foley. You are the best guitarist I have ever heard. I'm so thankful our Heavenly Father allowed my time on Earth to include all your fantastic performances and RUclips for making available entertainment to the masses! We are blessed. Peace / Love / Happiness to All!
Awesome Blaze Foley cover. Billy Strings is the man, I really love his guitar 🎸 playing and singing. Funny, he’s the same age as my youngest son, but he’s an old soul, for sure. He plays all my favorite songs and I dig bluegrass so much. Makes me want to borrow my oldest son’s guitar and start playing again, even though my poor hands hurt so much, but I still want to play again.
Damn son and I mean that in a very kind way , you never stop amazing me . I know I been listening since sometime round 2016 and I just wondered what you felt when you covered Blaze Foley , I'm sure your aware he was a gifted man a lot like you but in order to cover him I'm sure you had to slow things a bit and Blaze was a man hated by most but damn the man sure could write a song so I wanna think you kindly sir and I'm sure he's smiling as you play his songs , now I'm leaving here to go listen to the trilogy you made from his songs so peace be with everyone who comes here and to you Billy and all you hold close !!!
Billy an boys take my pain an worries away 💙 Michigan mama luvs billy an boys so glad I’ve seen them twice an I sure will many more times 💙💙💙been a fan for many years
Billy Strings thank you so much for sharing your amazingly awesome talent with us. If you are doing your own or a cover of other amazing talent you NEVER DISAPPOINT!!! I love you!!!
Might be true, might not be. Townes Van Zandt said that he and friends dug up Foleys body to retrieve a pawn ticket for Townes' guitar that was in Blazes pocket. "Blaze wouldn't mind."
It is true. The pawn ticket was retrieved and so was the wonderful guitar. I am sure Blaze was laughing his head off the whole time. He only had one suit.
The sorrow of life wasn't in the performance. Modern era helps people like Billy Strings, Tyler Childers, etc to sellout quick now. Blaze died poor. Definitely a difference. That sorrow came out different in Blaze than it did when Billy covered it. Couldn't afford to see Billy Strings last time he played in New Orleans....same with Childers.
This is my favorite Blaze Foley cover...he is in my opinion the most underrated country musicians of all time. Too bad he got murdered in 1989...for calling out his friends son for stealing his father's money for heroin. Rich Men North of Richmond is a great song for today especially. Blaze started poor and died poor unlike him though.
Looks are deceiving.... His family and the area he grew up in all had too much fun and he had to find a way out of that mess. Seen an interview him talking about it. He smokes a little green stuff.
The way he sings and plays he's a young man with an old soul. Love his music! Very talented
Yes!
And when he's old, and still playing, we'll say he's an old man with a young soul. A very old soul and a young heart.
Blaze was the real thing, and and so is Billy.

Just beautiful. He's clearly conquered the fretboard. Live long and prosper!

Cool
This guy understands nuance
He sure can make that G Maj.Chord sing.
Ty Billy & Blaze. What are some of yall's fav blaze songs?
What can you say about a guy who strips a song down to the bones and simply presents it… and yet it is totally complete and full?

Really authentic singing in an old timey voice
I ended up 80 miles from the farthest west you can drive in North America. Homer Spit. Homer Alaska. Billy come play Salmon Fest 2024 wont ya?
Pick this over rich men north of Richmond every time
This comment wins ❤

BUT unlike blaze I didn't feel the extreme sadness in his voice.
Pick any Blaze Foley song over any other song.
Best I’ve ever heard
Listen to Blaze Foley, sing it.
As a child of the 60's I recognize the look of Billy Strings, doesn't look to healthy and looks like he is having too much fun.
