Fun fact: This song took a dive right after it took off. Reason? The Beavis and Butt-head reaction. That week radio DJs dropped it from their playlists, people stopped coming to Winger shows and record sales came to a screeching halt. Fun times.
I saw Kip Winger and the band in Portland Maine in the 90's, with Kiss & Slaughter. I was Absolutely AMAZED how great Kip and the band sounded live! They all did, Yet WINGER is my Absolute fave! So much talent and Such an AWESOME Voice! Brings back great memories of the good ole days, I sure do miss them! I was even born the exact same day and month as Kip. :) This song is just a another masterpiece of the so many incredible songs they Preformed, And still sounds great even now.
this was released when grunge was in full swing...you get that feel here just by the change in the music and the look...kips and underrated vocalist . the band always gets props for the skills they have kips bass playing included, but his vocals were top notch...studio and live..this song has stood the test of time ouliving the grunge era to still sound great today.
@Ronald Rogers They are the best band from that time. Extreme is a close second as they sound great as ever. Tesla isn't far off if Jeff would stay sober before the show. lol
Because only a few years after they came out grunge music came in and drowned out anything they were doing .Rock went away, for a while, but glad to see it coming back and a new generation enjoying it.
To one of the best bands you could ever see. Kips voice is like fine wine, gets better with age. Would love to see them again. One of the best bands ever and not recognized for their craft and talent.
Such an underrated Band, Winger has some of the best harmonies in the business, love everything about this song, except for the fact that the beautiful woman dancing is Beatrice Winger, Kips very pretty wife who was tragically killed in a car accident 3 years after this came out. Feel very sad for him, her and all the families involved. Would of been wonderful to see how they got along together. She was also a talented artist and designed the black and white cover art for the albums. RIP Beatrice
I graduated in 1993. The Blaze in Lincoln, NE played this a lot. Stuck in my mind. Years later when Richie Incognito played at Nebraska, every time I heard his name on the radio or TV, I'd say you mean Richie Down Incognito ? 😅
Met Kip a few years ago in Jeff City Missouri, even got too carry his keyboard, i was on cloud 9, one of my favorite bands from the 80's, Love you 4-ever Kip!!💗
Just saw them in concert at The Mill on Terre Haute, Indiana my hometown. Was an awesome show. Thank you for playing my favorite song which is this one. Much love
I still play this song, in my bar & Griils, AMBIANCE, Parel, every Thursday..... "Rock The Night." WINGER: YOU GUYS ARE MY ALL TIME FAV. ROCK BAND of all time...
You know really not why this song didn''t make a bigger splash when it came out..???? I forgot they made a video for this song....I have the song in my digital collection..good catchy lerics.....got my thumbs up guy's......thanx to winger and all it took to produce this one...and last but not least Rhino for sharing it us....if you like the song give it a download somewhere and take it on the road with ya......BADA$$ 80's.....~XXX~
IMO, the BEST Winger track of their career! The 1st 2 releases went platinum; this one only sold 100,000 or so copies, and this track went #15 on the Rock Tracks. Great song nonetheless!!
Lyrics Winger - Down Incognito Days undercover All out of sync Haven't paid the rent Even talking in my sleep My monkey's M.O. Is all out of commission I'm waiting for a good old-fashioned cure For my condition 'Cos I'm all out of charm And I'm all out of money Hanging Down Incognito Waiting for the sun to shine Fools to the left Jokers to the right Waitin' for the rest of us To come and take a bite But I'll wait it out Call it superstition I'll be fine for now Just reminiscing (Repeat Chorus) I just had to let it go Took all the pennies I had Threw 'em in the wishing well And I wish you well Days undercover All out of sync Haven't paid the rent Even talking in my sleep My monkey's M.O. Is all out of commission I'm waiting for a good old-fashioned cure For my condition (Repeat Chorus) Me and my amigos Down Incognito
Just a kick ass song then and still is. If I was in a good band I would add it as a cover song today. Not like most new stuff isn't weak same/same BS anyway,
So true; this release deserved at least a "gold" certification over some of the popular bands of 93. IMO. But only did 100,000 or so copies. #83 on the charts. Like Mr. Big and their Bump Ahead. Sad.....no accounting for taste!!!
This was their 3rd album. From a hair-band, during the Beavis and Butthead diss era. I'd say Winger made a very good song, here, despite backlash. Harmonica solo, instead of guitar! That's tits.
I moved from Phx to Washington State in 92. Saw as Hard Rock Music like this from the 80's slowly go by the wayside and wondered why it was fading. The "Hair Metal" look was a gimmick; the music was really the point. The Grunge Thing was, looking back, lame. SoundGarden and Alice in Chains were the only decent Seattle bands, IMO. Nirvana was overhyped @ times, as was Pearl Jam. Living in Wa state, I did go w/ the Grunge movement but now regret it. This stuff was steller-musically speaking. This LP, "Pull" only sold 100,000 copies or so, compared the Platinum selling of the previous two releases. Pull is a very underrated LP of the 90's, IMO again. A lot of groups from the 80's were on the downside of their careers by this point. I suggest releases from this period (91-95) of bands like Winger, Mr. Big, Warrant (YES; listen to Dog Eat Dog, Undertow), Badlands (Jake E. Lee), others. For solid, good Hard Rock that doesn't leave you feeling depressed like PJ or Nirvana, making one feel like suicide is their only option, I recommend the bands listed 1st and NOT alot of those Seattle bands. There ARE some decent Seattle/Alternative groups that are decent, but the ones who dominated the charts/airwaves were not all that. Looking back some 20 years later, as an older music fan, can say that. Thanks.
Calvin Craft Madelaine and Seventeen are both incredible songs. Have you paid attention to the technicality of either song? The fact that they can remain so catchy, yet so demanding in terms of skill is amazing.
50 % agree. They did what they had to do to achieve fame; those songs were appropriate for the times. This shows musical maturity on their part. All in it's time, as they say...
+Adam Dean Shafi I completely agree with you! All of Winger's songs are musically outstanding. I think they just evolved from the late 1980's sound to more of a raw, grunge sound in the mid 1990's. But each song is excellent in its own way.
Has Kip ever mentioned that this song is a metaphor for the decline of the hair metal scene? It would make sense considering the time this album was released. Just a theory of mine.
Just your educated guess or do you have some other knowledge of the video? How about the model in "Spell I'm Under"? I think one of the models looks like her.
To add: one thing that bothers me is the anti-christian sentiment that one saw with some of those Grunge/Alternative bands. Nirvana at times were offensive in their videos/publicity. NEVER saw that with the hair acts. Always respect. It is offensive to disrespect ALL religions/beliefs, btw. Just my .02. My right as an American to post this. The 90's felt evil, in music and popular entertainment. Like a movement/shift had occurred. And still does to this day. Sad.
Down in cognito this band should never have been and they woulda been the next leppard had it not been for the driffle that come out out the rainy north west
Screw Mtv and radio in 1993. How can anyone deny this most killer song anything less than major airplay. This bitch is amazing.
It's no Loungin
One of the most under rated Bands of all time!
What a great song
2021 and still listening to this awesome song! Kip Winger talent will never be forgotten!
My favorite Winger tune!!
My favorite too!
Fun fact: This song took a dive right after it took off. Reason? The Beavis and Butt-head reaction. That week radio DJs dropped it from their playlists, people stopped coming to Winger shows and record sales came to a screeching halt. Fun times.
One of their best.

Any rock song with a harmonica is usually awesome, including this one. Probably my favorite song by Winger, along with Madalaine.
‘Pull’ was definitely an album to admire! 😎🎸
this was released when grunge was in full swing...you get that feel here just by the change in the music and the look...kips and underrated vocalist . the band always gets props for the skills they have kips bass playing included, but his vocals were top notch...studio and live..this song has stood the test of time ouliving the grunge era to still sound great today.
They did used to play this on mtv though!
You can imagine Layne Staley singing this song. It's a little "happier" than most AIC material but it's not that far off.
2019 and why isn't this on classic rock radio? This song is smokin...
@Ronald Rogers 2021 and I still wonder, this track is timeless.
Love this one...stands the test of time.
This song is so cool. Can't get enuff for twenty years ! A French fan. Winger rules.
great band..so talented...au revoir
Maintenant trente ;)
To one of the best bands you could ever see. Kips voice is like fine wine, gets better with age. Would love to see them again. One of the best bands ever and not recognized for their craft and talent.

Kip has always been real
Waiting for the Sun to Shine!
Unh!
Took all the pennies I had
Threw 'em in the wishing well
And I wish you well..
the best line!!
Screw Mike Judge, Metallica and anyone else that dissed this band back in the day. They rock
They hated him cuz he was pretty 😂Talented song writer, and Reb Beach is a killer guitarist

Lyrics
Winger - Down Incognito
Days undercover
All out of sync
Haven't paid the rent
Even talking in my sleep
My monkey's M.O.
Is all out of commission
I'm waiting for a good
old-fashioned cure
For my condition
'Cos I'm all out of charm
And I'm all out of money
Hanging
Down Incognito
Waiting for the sun to shine
Fools to the left
Jokers to the right
Waitin' for the rest of us
To come and take a bite
But I'll wait it out
Call it superstition
I'll be fine for now
Just reminiscing
(Repeat Chorus)
I just had to let it go
Took all the pennies I had
Threw 'em in the wishing well
And I wish you well
Days undercover
All out of sync
Haven't paid the rent
Even talking in my sleep
My monkey's M.O.
Is all out of commission
I'm waiting for a good
old-fashioned cure
For my condition
(Repeat Chorus)
Me and my amigos
Down Incognito
Thanks Raffy! Awesome lyrics. I can 'sing' along!
Nice voice
I've been to Mexico before! Juarez and old Laredo!!!!
Good song
I like it... I dont care if you do or not! Dont tread on me...
great song..great memories jamming to this.😁😁..22 yrs old thought i was the shit in 95.😁😁
Just a kick ass song then and still is. If I was in a good band I would add it as a cover song today. Not like most new stuff isn't weak same/same BS anyway,
Like Warrant and Dog Eat Dog, the 3rd album is their best although Karma is pretty killer.
pull is a great album...Just a bad time in music when it came out......
So true; this release deserved at least a "gold" certification over some of the popular bands of 93. IMO. But only did 100,000 or so copies. #83 on the charts. Like Mr. Big and their Bump Ahead. Sad.....no accounting for taste!!!
Pull is a very very good album. Gront to back
Their BEST SONG....17 is Very Close but I'd be called a Perv if I posted that 1 LOL
This song IS for anybody who is in weird financial circumstances & acknowledging their situation to do BETTER!😂😂
👍👍👍👍👍
Amei muito massa

10 out of 10
10.. 10,, 10.. 10,,...... just sayin

Unfortunate Grunge was the in thing.
This was their 3rd album. From a hair-band, during the Beavis and Butthead diss era. I'd say Winger made a very good song, here, despite backlash. Harmonica solo, instead of guitar! That's tits.
Hell yeah haven't heard that phrase in a while ! Sure is tits

Oh.., and FUCK MIKE JUDGE.
If this was the tune they had started with, their legacy would have been much different then it got with Madeline and Seventeen.

Truth
Madeline, Seventeen, Headed for a Heartbreak and Miles Away are way better. Just my two cents.
Do a country version of this,. and you may not need to be down incognito?.. Rock has died for some reason.
Has Kip ever mentioned that this song is a metaphor for the decline of the hair metal scene? It would make sense considering the time this album was released. Just a theory of mine.
Yup ! He ended this video in a very "up yours" I know who I am style. Love it !
Where in Arizona did they film this video?
👍
No comments? Come on!
Bull fight in Juarez! In the early 70's
Where is Reb Beach???
FROM..VIDIO..LAIK..
DIS..AI..COMM..IN..
STYL..PANTERA..
SUPER.TRUPER..!!!
Where was this video shot?
dessert
New York City
Greenland
Canada
Looks like in New Mexico, where Kip relocated in the early 90's.
Ass-shakin tune in my book . . . ❤
Is the model Kip's first wife, Beatrice, I wonder?
okay. Thanks, it does look like her.
Just your educated guess or do you have some other knowledge of the video? How about the model in "Spell I'm Under"? I think one of the models looks like her.
RIP, Beatrice!!
Это гитарист Элис Купер
Is this a Grunge Song
The biggest disappointment on this song is that Reb doesn't rip out a solo... :(
To add: one thing that bothers me is the anti-christian sentiment that one saw with some of those Grunge/Alternative bands. Nirvana at times were offensive in their videos/publicity. Everbody experiences religion differently. If you were raped by a priest how would you feel about religion?
No me gusta la canción!
I'm still like in them
If you can´t post the album for whatever reason TAKE THE SONGS YOU CAN´T POST OFF RUclips.
Really fuckin great song. I love winger
Down in cognito this band should never have been and they woulda been the next leppard had it not been for the driffle that come out out the rainy north west
killer band. such great musicians
