I watched the game yesterday, and I just now understood how snow was able to come out with so many more archons in the last game. Snow took the extra gas in the base while Free seemingly forgot to, and that’s why even though Free always seemed to have a better economy, his unit composition just wasn’t as good. All those zealots in the big maxed battle got owned by those extra archons from Snow’s side. Really epic battle
idk what it is, but I certainly heard that phrase somewhere. In a movie or something. One dude comes up with a crazy idea, and the other guy is like "oh yeah, you can do that". And then the first guy keeps getting hyped up and coming up with more unrealistic ideas and the second guy "certainly, you can do that". Damn, I can't remember where it is from.
@Ginnungagap Why would that be? It's much harder to play random at the same level as a single race. Rather than knowing three match-ups inside-out you have to master 9 match ups. There are just not enough hours in the day to become as good as someone who dedicates all their time to one race. No one's ever been suggesting that Flash got an unfair advantage, in the contrary everyone agreed that he was heavily handicapping himself. Yes, he does have the advantage that not knowing what Flash is playing means that the opponent can't use certain build orders as they might get blind countered by the wrong race but beyond that Flash is at a serious disadvantage. Being not allowed to select the race based on opponent and map I agree with which is indeed banned, not being allowed to chose random? I really don't see why that should be a thing.
@Ginnungagap the reason why it's incredibly rare is because you are only going to be 1/3 as good as the competition because you only get 1/3 of practice time with each race. That all information should be known at the start of the game is your personal opinion. Nowhere in the game is this being made a thing. SC also isn't chess. In chess all information is available to both parties at all times. RTS have fog of war in particular to make things hidden and to force constant scouting. I think all in all we can agree to disagree
How is brood war actually getting better? These games are fucking great. I used to skip certain matchups but not the last few years. Thanks everyone at afreeca!
That last game showed why SC1 is so much better to watch then SC2. That type of game (with the turn arounds) would be impossible to have in sc2 due to the mechanics of each game.
It was a great game, but I do think there's ample potential for turnarounds in SC2, as well. In particular, often one player does crippling economic damage but goes down in army supply, which gives their opponent a timing window to win with their army advantage before they get buried due to the resource advantage. I do agree that the fights are often much more watchable and comprehensible in SC1, though.
ruclips.net/video/7Hkzq4_Gp8U/видео.html game one, 40 minutes back and forth. I was in the camp of broodwar> sc2, but it's different now. I would say both of them are distinct depends on what you are looking for.

He lost so many probes and had so much econ disruption from fighting with his probes that his 2 base economy never fully kicked in. Flash maintained a pretty solid army supply advantage after the initial skirmishes. Sure if snow was positioned properly he would have been much more likely to withstand the attack, but it was still far from guaranteed. Flash had a ton of goons
Same here. He lost way too many probes. That second Nexus didn't pay off at all. I've seen 12 Nexus in PvP but after that you make gates at 12 and 14 and pressure with 5 zealots so he can't freely transition to dragoons. He chose to make cannons so Flash could transition to w/e.
Yeah I feel ya on that. But I think they also try and talk from the perspective of the player during the game sometimes. As in, the fact flash could calculate it and act on it is insane as people like me would assume I'm fcked and do some stupid move.
That last push from Flash started with 12 dragoons and 2 reavers vs 10 dragoons and a zealot back home, plus cannons - pretty even except for the reavers tipping the balance. There's definitely room for Snow to hold that if he has different positioning on his dragoons. Far from guaranteed, but he could've done better than getting split off from his reinforcement line and subsequently eating scarabs directly in the face with a whole cluster of dragoons. Frankly I think Snow got a little overconfident after holding off the initial push and wrecking Flash's first two reavers so fast, assumed he'd be fine, got punished for taking an exposed position.
@@ShjadeNexayre right. And as often as we see the momentum completely reverse in PvP after one engagement, no reason Snow couldn't have recovered in that game too with better positioning.
**SPOILER*** In the fight at 3:49:33 snow did beat free with 9 goons and 2 reavers with a shuttle while free had 14 goons and 2 reavers with a shuttle . Simply incredible!

Free lost 84 supply Snow lost 34 (maybe 2 or 4 more because it seems he used some minerals around the end of this battle). This is because Free army was mostly zealots and the problem with zealots is that they are bad against every unit in the game with equal supply when in big numbers ( I experimented with 2 groups of zealots vs every type of terran units at the same supply and zealots lost to every type of unit - they lose to marines , ghost, goliath ect). Same is vs protoss and I would say zerg too. The zealots lose to literaly everithing in the game that can attack them except workers. The use for zealots should be for scecific purpose or timing attacks with tempo(when they are ahead in upgrade and the opponent has not reached next tech) and never as main body of army.
Yeah you only need a small group to tank a few shots. You definitely need a lot of other units to shoot over their heads, otherwise Archon Reaver will just splash them to oblivion.
Commenters and flash both expressed that their surprise at the low unit count. There were two supply blocks blue Protoss ran into right as flash was waiting for the double reavers
it's painful to see so many zealots of Free died because of a single scarab at 4:04:35, not to mention they are so badly friendly fired by his own psi storms a few seconds earlier
That last PvP has to be one of the best games of all time. I have no idea how the winner came back from behind to win it. Also I have no idea why the loser didn't take their free 3rd gas.
I think it’s the fact that Free seemed to forget getting his second gas in main that’s why he had less archons and that’s how he lost the maxed battle though
That upgrade paid dividends for him. Probably more than shuttle speed would have, but still I don't see why not get both upgrades when you rely so heavily on reavers.
@@7thquark309 Large numbers of HT will make shuttle/reaver combo obsolete and therefore you may not get the benefits of this upgrade at all. This match storm was late and not it in the huge number though so snow made a good call.

I was thinking the same thing. Watching those battles over and over again, I can't help but wonder if it wasn't actually Snow's micro that really made the difference, but just the unit compositions of the 2 armies. Free had too many zealots, period. They were just melted by splash damage.

HOLY SH** FLASH
Great game at 3:39:30
these games are amazing!
I can't believe that Snow came back in the last game. 3 times in a row.
great games, what an amazing group, and the video is exactly 420 long
holy crap. Really good games here.
FLASH ERES EL AMOR DE MI VIDAAAAAAAAAAAAA TE AMOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Where can i find one of those ASL jackets!!??
4:20 video length, in honor of flash being baked out of his mind while declaring he was going random this season 😂
Free had way too many zealots against practically mass archon with reaver.... Free NEVER took that extra gas in his main even after losing his fourth. Very strange way to lose imo...
I was thinking the same thing. Watching those battles over and over again, I can't help but wonder if it wasn't actually Snow's micro that really made the difference, but just the unit compositions of the 2 armies. Free had too many zealots, period. They were just melted by splash damage.
@@abstractdaddy1384 Ya, since Snow was down a second gas he took the one in his main, but Free didn't.
snow. while an awesome player. struggled to get through. though that may be due to stronger opponents. queen and larva breezed through the cans.
WHAT IS HAPPENING
Incredible games. 🙌
What? Why are they playing starcraft 1? What happened to sc2? Did I miss something? Does the gsl still exist?
Remastered graphics. The team colours are already hard enough to see. Who the heck decided that blue and green are good colours on a blue background?! Baffling. Have fun figuring who's Zealot is whose.
Yeah they’re generally good at turning the colors to red blue if the colors are bad. Dunno why they didn’t here.
Dat PvP... unbelievable!!!
If you're watching this right now, *_you'd better watch until the end._*
2:15:15 “There’s other actions you must perform this game” is on par with “You must construct additional pylons” lmfao
is this the north Korean boy band tournament??
FLASH ES EL PORONGA!!!!!!!!!!
Saludos desde Paraná Argentina
Don't normally ever watch ASL, but they got me hyped about Flash playing random.
Why on earth do they do best of 1? I feel like that would be really stressful for the players and also take some strategy out of the sets.
Is it just time constraints?
Time constraints, the important matches are best of three.
DO NOT READ COMMENTS BEFORE WATCHING THE GAMES, SPOILERS BELOW! TRUST ME, WATCH THE GAMES!
Edit: Also is it just me or is Tasteless clearing his throat A LOT these days?
