Such a good song. It's actually a cover of a song from Maya released in 2003. And the chorus is originally based from a Korean poem by Kim Sowol in the 1920s during the Japanese occupation. It's one of my favorite songs to this day.

      It's not a cover.
What is it is more complicated.
To start a poem called Azalea, it was written in 1922.
That poem started a new style of poetry, aply called Azalea style.
The style, like the original poem, is an expression of powerful emotions stirred up by memories.
Simply having the same name doesn't make them the same song.
In fact, the subject matter of heartbreak is the only thing the 2 songs have in common.
This version is written in the Azalea style, but it is based on RQ's past experiences.
Maya's is based on her experiences.
But both songs are registered as originals in Azalea writting style.

That is my favorite song from Rolling Quartz. On a sad note, Hyunyung the blue hair guitarist just got declared positive for covid-19 yesterday and their online concert of tomorrow got postponed, so let wish her lot of rest and a fast recovery.

Azalea, I should point out that it's actually a Maya cover. The poem "Azalea" is known by all Koreans as having a political message. After 1922 when poet Kim Sowol first published it, the poem was an influence during the 80s and 90s in South Korea during pro-democracy movements. You see, as crazy as it may sound, South Korea didn't actually become a democracy until 1997. When Maya did her song "Azalea" in 2003 by using the entire original poem as the chorus to her song (the verses around the chorus are new to Maya's song) every Korean understood it as being a political song. 2003 was a big year because that was the year when worldwide protests were held against the Iraq War. In Maya's video, some of the images you see are of the protests against the Iraq War. The poem "Azalea" is an anti-occupier message. Kim Sowol coded it as a poem about a break up because Japan did not allow Koreans to have freedom of speech so any overt criticism against Japan by Koreans at that time would've meant death.
Since the lyrics in Rolling Quartz's cover are exactly the same as Maya's, there is no difference in meaning. The significance with Rolling Quartz's version is the year that they released their cover. They released their cover this year in 2022. That's the 100 year anniversary of the publishing of Kim Sowol's famous "Azalea" poem.

You are a damn good reactor brother! Just discovered you today. Watched all your Rolling Quartz videos. Great band! 1st. This song is epic. That clean Strat tone is pure Korean Skynard! They are so good!! My favorite Asian girl band is Band Maid from Japan. Seeing them October 25th Washington DC. Can't wait! There's like 20 Great Japanese girl band's. What makes RQ different is that they're Korean. Not a lot of K-rock. They've got the Korean music industry behind them. What's cooler than Black Pink? Black Pink with guitars! This band has J-Rock skills with Kpop style and connections. They have a legit chance of being the greatest girl band ever! Check out that Gaga cover. First video on their official! Rock on!😊😎🤘🤘🤘

It's not _every_ song on the album; they said they're releasing _five_ MVs. I assume it's Higher that's being missed, because I find it hard to believe that they're going to do an MV for that over one of their _own_ songs; the two remaining ones are Rock and Roll Paradise, and Holler (and that's not just _my_ favourite song, but also that of 4/5 of the band... 😜).
Visually, it's beautiful; of course _they're_ stunning, but the scenery echoes the theme perfectly, and there are lots of little flower motifs in their outfits tying into it as well...
Arem's bass is so thick I can actually _feel it in my head_ alongside Yeong Eun's drums.
As much as I love Iree's guitar solos, I really like Hyunjung taking the lead here and getting herself some focus...
And of course Jayoung's _incredibly_ versatile vocals, from subtle to powerhouse... and that harmony crescendo going into the last chorus..? _Literal goosebumps,_ mate. 😙👌
I actually finally got round to listening to Maya's original at the weekend, and while it _is_ a fantastic song, for me, this is another example of RQ taking it _beyond._
Hopefully Hyunjung recovers quickly, and they can reschedule their launch party soon; the last time we saw them live at "home" was on her birthday nearly five months ago..!

P.s. The drummer for RQ teaches the drummer for Dream Catcher. Gotta be a label connection there. Could get your collaboration wish.
