      @@richarfbunn5883 he has congestive heart failure 😫 he is on meds now twice a day, and doing a LOT better. But his heart murmur (that went unnoticed by his old vet!) would cause him to have palpitations and lose oxygen to the brain briefly. Definitely bring it up to their vet!
      We just went and had him have all of the tests and everything for the heart murmur- and yep. It’s CHF. (Congestive heart failure). The vet recommended we get all of his teeth removed now, because chihuahuas are sometimes born with too many teeth anyway. And he got an abscess even with brushing. She stated that the older he gets- the more risky mouth infections will be for him. They could go straight to his heart. So we removed all of them and he is doing really well on the meds
      He “coughs” sometimes when his meds are starting to wear off. We were really confused by this but the vet stated that there’s fluid around his heart and it pushes on the lungs/esophagus. So keep an eye on your dog’s breathing as well. I didn’t know they were related. Best of luck! Respond if you need ANYTHING! And I will try my best to help! 🖤

    This is sad to watch, I'm sorry for you and your dog... I have a blue eyed very tall siberian husky, over 10 years I have had him, I have three days in which to decide if he risks going under to be observed for a possible heart condition, as he would not allow the vet to listen to his chest.. I was told he may not pull through that and if it is a heart condition he will need to be allowed to g this Friday , if I agree.. This comes just days after burying my little brother's first dog.. it's hard to tell people who aren't dog people how your feeling about possibly the only truest, bestest friend your likely to ever have in your life.

      Hi, Sunrise R. I completely understand. It's already difficult for me to open up to people. So, when it comes to my dog and his health I'm very private. The last thing I want to hear from anyone is, " It's just a dog..." My dog has been with me for 10 years and has been more affectionate, loyal and loving than most people I've met at this point in my life. It's hard to have people dismiss 10 years like it should mean nothing. I say all this simply to let you know. You're not alone. There are tons of dog lovers out there who understand 100% the love we have for our pets.

    Thank you for sharing as well as updating the post. I was searching for reasons my Golden Retriever would suddenly be unable to stand up. I've looked for 12 hrs as he began being stiff last night and has progressed this morning to not being able to stand even with assistance. Stroke had not occurred to me. As soon as hubby gets home from 3rd shift we will figure something out as I cannot lift this 75-90lb dog! I raised him earlier and he just fell back down. Shouldnt be busy bbn 15 mins until he is home to dog seems comfortable and calm but we have a major problem suddenly.

      @@rominac4242 no we never did. It resolved itself within 48 hours. A friend came by and suggested I give him aspirin I think and we started that a few days to wks as I recall. Our assumption was that playing with our other dog he got hurt. Maybe his back. He had severe rickets when he was a puppy and never totally recovered that he limped and hurt from arthritis. So he was extra suspectible to injury. My son sd he lived about another yr in good shape. He did eventually return to that state slowly but we don't feel it was related. We & our vet feel at that time it was his natural dying process. But when he died it didn't come on suddenly over night. I think you shouldn't worry. Tucker recovered beautifully! Best wishes. I'm saying a prayer for your dog now. 😘💛💛💛

    My small pup just turned a year last month and last night she woke up with her mouth all dry and when I put her on the floor she couldn't walk nor keep her balance! She would move a little and her legs would give up especially her back ones they would just slide down the floor till she was laying on her belly, seeing her stumble and look as if she was gonna pass out broke my heart but she has since slept it off and is now running all over the house super energetic with no problem.

      I have a girl now that a neurologist diagnosed with Cryptogenic Epilepsy. Something you may want to look into for your boy.

    Any updates? My older lab is going through something similar. We are going to start with antibiotics with the possibility that it’s an inner ear infection. It breaks my heart to see of four legged friends struggle like this.

    • @SeniorChisRock
      @SeniorChisRock  8 лет назад +5

      +bd67315 Since this episode, he has not had any others. A neurologist should be able to determine if it's inner ear and not just prescribe antibiotics until that has been determined for sure. My dog had an MRI and there was evidence of a stroke. One neurologist wanted to start him on Keppra stating it could be seizures, but another was adamant it was stroke related. Our dog has not been on any medication and it is just a watch and see if the episodes happen again. My advice- don't give your dog any meds until you get opinions from at least two neurologists (not just a regular vet). If we listened to the first specialist and given the Keppra, my dog could be worse off right now.

    My dog is struggling with balance just like this one. She’s almost 2 years old and is supposedly a pit bull/Akita. She pants a lot and doesn’t want to eat but she drinks plenty of water. I don’t know what it is and I can’t really pay for a vet. So if you have any ideas I’d appreciate them.

    Look into Ideopathic Vestibular Disease/Syndrome. Often mistaken as a stroke. If your dog has a stroke it would be far worse than IVDS. Older dogs get it.

    • @SeniorChisRock
      @SeniorChisRock  6 лет назад

      Yes, Vestibular disease is always a possibility with symptoms like these. It looks very similar with most people describing their pet as walking drunk. A vestibular episode mimics a seizure, but when it's a vestibular episode, the eyes dart back and forth. My other dog experienced vestibular episodes and this was most certainly not that. The issue is that seizures, vestibular episodes and strokes (especially mini strokes) can all cause similar after-effects. Makes it very confusing.

      It may be a good idea to take your dog in for a basic exam and have full bloodwork done, just to rule it out being caused by something that can be easily be fixed. If bloodwork comes back fine, the vet will just tell you to watch and see if it happens again. If it does happen again, at that point tests and options will be discussed.

      It sounds like vestibular disease, which is something my other dog had. If you can take him to a neurologist, they can give you a better idea of what's going on.
