- In this Episode I thought now I have had the pleasure of playing both Scum and Day I would put my experiences into a little vid so I can look back on it in years to come and be like...who was that with those opinions?? Let me know your thoughts on these 2 games!

Subbed, great video. Dayz is the only game in town. Im UK based too, I have my own server, its 20 slot and I have the map mod, ive kept it as vanilla as possible. I only get 2 or 3 players on it at a time at the moment, ive only had it a couple of months. If you are free sometime and fancy joining me then let me know. 🧟♀️✌️

Similar feel in both DayZ and Scum - Dayz has a better atmospheric feel from the audio I think. But SCUM graphics are just so bright and beautiful.... it blows DayZ out of the water with cooking, hunting and fishing. I'm slowly becoming more and more #TeamSCUM for sure ;)
Also my buddy found me a Knights helmet in Scum...sooooo ya know now we just need swords 😁😆

thats the only thing I think Dayz does better is the atmosphere, it outmatches scum A LOT in that aspect and most games in the genre. I hate walking around in scum and theres barely any noise some times its completely silent besides my footsteps and it really bothers me.
I probably have 1000+ hours on both games (I played DayZ on PS4 before I got my PC and got SCUM).
SCUM feels like an upgrade from DayZ, and the lore deserves it's own iceberg deep-dive.
I have heard some of the Lore from both games. DayZ is like a comfort game for me as I have many many hours there so the sound effects and views make me feel like home. It's sort of unfair to compare them as Scum is so much more in depth survival wise among other things. But I'm very fond of them both 😊

Scum is a more of a modern game but Dayz is much much much better in what it does well.
Dayz is about social interaction and survival. Much better than Scum

SCUM is just better all around in my opinion and I def dropped DayZ for it. The loot rate on an official server is similar to DayZ but the only thing DayZ has a better rate on getting is guns and ammo.
The bunkers and abandoned bunker mechanics with Mechs as well guarding the good stuff is just a nice challenge too.
It looks better, feels better and combat is much better in my opinion.

Yeah, the SCUM Mechs are freaking terrifying. I LOVE them being in the game. Mechs did not seem to be mentioned at all in this video, only the zombies...

Nice video, I think I'm going to try out Scum. I'm like you and Dayz was my first taste of a survival game.
Scum is basically polished to perfection version of Day Z. In Scum also you will die from million variation of meatbolism-health problems!!
The worst thing that could happen metabolismwise would be that you just dont eat anything and then get unconscious for 15 seconds while you are runnig away from puppets. Otherwise you will still somehow to manage to find food even in such a bad state. You just shouldnt use 100% of your stamina because you dont know whats around the bush. Preserve some energy
@@qreepyQT i died trillion times in unbelivable ways,one example is when I was freezing so I started a fire but soon I died cuz I was too close to that same fire which saved me from freezing,Irony!!
3000+hrs on dayz and I’ve just recently hit 700hrs on scum. Love them both but scum has crazy potential and I can’t wait for 1.0 release and mod support!

Hey from Wales 🏴 Very informative video. I have played DayZ on PC since the DayZ Arma 2 mod (Which was amazing In my opinion) so I've always been a fan. I know when DayZ Standalone was first released, It was left needing work for years, but since the mod implementation and the modded servers have come out with the different maps, etc and the use of DayZ Launcher on PC, I think It's great. I've always been a fan of Bohemia Interactive games. I love ARMA 3. I might look Into Scum at some point. Nice video 😀.
Hey buddy... you're kind of a stones throw away from me... I'm not far from Wales in the big scheme of things! I totally understand what people are saying about Scum being a better game overall but I'm still a sucker for the DayZ ambience. ..if I ever rent my own server would you want to hop on? I need to learn how to mod. Scum was way too easy 😬🤔👌🌟
@CoffeeBarbarian Yeah If you ever make one I would give your server a go. I don't play as much as I used to be honest, & I'm pretty old school, I don't use Discord (Not a fan), I prefer talking In-game VoIP haha. The DayZ ambience is really good, sometimes It makes me a bit paranoid. Half of the time, I have trouble telling if the foosteps are mine or someone elses 😂 I don't really know anything about modding servers, but I like the fact If I want to play something different from the official servers, DayZ Launcher installs all the mods I need for that specific server. I prefer simple Vanilla servers with unlimited stamina and more loot, but sometimes I do play a more modded server depending on how I feel. I might give Scum a go at some point, and I've also been thinking of giving Escape From Tarkov a try, been on my radar for years but never bought It 😀.
@@Skillerboi8 I'll be honest you sound like me.😆 I have constant panic in dayz at the sounds but I love it. Didn't realise you can choose mods before looking for servers. If I get a server it would be mainly for wandering and base building. Pvp gives me ptsd and mods scare me cos of the updates kicking everything askew 😬😆 I do have a Discord server but it's not mandatory.
@@CoffeeBarbarian Haha. Yeah DayZ SA Launcher Is really handy. It automatically downloads all the mods you need for a specific server. You open It, pick your server then It installs the mods for that specific server. I hope this helps! 😁
Played both over 600 hours, SCUM is way better, more fun, more scary, way more complex and of course superior.
I've played dayz on console but im debating between buying scum or dayz now on steam but this video and your comment ive made up my mind , not to mention scum is 50% off right now ... thank you
@@camperlou1i bought dayz recently and its pretty bad - official servers are very laggy compared to community servers,there isnt much content in vanilla so you need mods for that - also vehicles are very laggy
In DayZ, once you've been in one house, you've been in all of them lol. I prefer SCUM.
I've played both and in my opinion Scum rules.
I mean when dayz started to almost work, with the big update, scum had already been around for a while and figured out most of their bugs. Although dayz was released five years earlier they couldn't get their shit together with a game that's not half as detailed.
Kudos to the dayz community though who stuck around waiting all these years. I think that's why most "long time" dayz players won't play scum, their loyalty.
Let's face it, if a gamer, new to booth dayz and scum, had to try them booth and then pick one, it would be a landslide victory for scum!
Scum is a so much more in depth, yet still fairly easy to learn, survival game!
All very good points. Scum is definitely superior in so many ways. I don't think my pleasure at dayz comes from loyalty. Almost a sense of...it's easier. As in, you can switch off a bit when you play and just try to avoid being shot in the face. With scum you really need to be on it at all times! Soooo many ways to die 😆
@@CoffeeBarbarianHm... not actually. In Scum, it depends on type of server, and server playstyle set. There are Battle riyal severs, which is almost completely different game, but looks like scum. Role play servers usually have easy setting - lots of good loot, easy puppets. Than there are PVE servers where you can find every possible combinations of settings - from hard core survival, to grab and shoot. Than PVP - all kind of styles, all kind of difficulties (one guy play as burglar in big city - sneaking during night and raiding bases /flats. And it looks awesome from that perspection.). Fractions are comming into Scum (there are screenshots how the "boss" will look like). I would rather guess that it is unfair comparison, since Scum is not finished yet (but they are getting very close there).
SCUM is NOW the better game, maybe in 2018-2020 DayZ was the better game, but many updates later, SCUM has added more than DayZ, and seems to add more before 1.0

What have you heard. I’m waiting for scum to com to xbox…all I know is it should be out by now.. but, it’s not even in the upcoming games section.
A simple way to sum this up, vanilla DayZ vs Scum as it is now, Scum wins as it’s way more in depth, but modded DayZ vs Scum then DayZ wipes the floor with it. Now take modded DayZ into consideration and how the Scum devs have a perfect example to take ideas from, it’s hard to believe what the current state of Scum is considering it’s due for 1.0 release next year. The only thing that will save scum is for modding to be allowed.
Ya need to remember dayZ is old and more and better things will come to scum

There’s several reason I dont like dayz and it’s only because I started hosting servers and it was all good but I wanted MY SERVER to start everyone WITH A VEHICLE & trying to get that in the data is just horrid

You're definitely a Dayz noob to want a server like that.
* On SCUM single-player you DO have access to admin commands, but using them may prevent getting Steam achievements. Things frequently change, so I'm not sure if that penalty is still in place. Admin commands in single-player is a good way to try out your favorites weapons, etc.
* SCUM vehicle selection was scaled back when they implemented the modular vehicles system, so now you have to piece your vehicle together and different parts will take damage independently of the others. When all of the vehicles are returned to the game there should be: 2 kinds of boats, 2 kinds of rafts, a Volkswagen (called a Wolfswagen), a Lada Niva 4x4 compact car (called a Laika), a dirtbike, a cruiser motorcycle, a mountain bike, a city bicycle (Amsterdam style?), an ATV, an SUV, a pickup truck and and a biplane, some in different colors. They may choose to add or subtract. Vehicles in SCUM have been known to glitch when the game is NOT installed on an SSD, at high speeds, or on bridges (where they have sometimes fallen through the bridge), but I think this might be fixed now.
* I worked on a small part of the original Arma, the game that DayZ got its start as a mod, and the Arma engine just did not handle melee very well and the world was not very interactive, although beautiful upon the release of its successive titles. It does appear that Bohemia Interactive and whatever team is working on DayZ now have been addressing this and working to improve these aspects, so much so that sometimes I can't tell if SCUM seems to be copying DayZ or vice versa. I've tried DayZ when it was a mod and again recently and I've not been able to get into it, although I have been begging Gamepires for YEARS to fill in some of its gameplay holes that are especially glaring on SCUM's MANY low-population servers. SCUM is beginning to make progress in this regard, so I'm ready for it.
* Vanilla SCUM can feel like a pee and poo simulator, which drives me insane, so I created a server set to real-time. I also turned down the metabolism to match. The problem there is that I was eating so much food that I quickly gained belly fat and lost half a full point of Dexterity. My character has been on a Keto diet in order to get that Dexterity back and it has been a slow uphill battle, especially since most of the food has lots of carbs in it.
CONCLUSION: I really love SCUM. Gamepires has the sort of innovative fun-spirited outlook that Bohemia Interactive had when they started out with Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (the original Arma). I think Bohemia Interactive is returning to that. I will always love the Bohemia Interactive team, though they may not love me, but if SCUM were a faction Vs. faction tactical first-person shooter I think it would be far more immersive than Arma, mostly because it simulates the cosmos within the human body. Gamepires does drive me a bit nuts when they remove things that I found very useful, but I really have no option but to adapt to these changes. For PvE content I have really enjoyed Stay Out (Stalker Online) and Will To Live Online. I long for this sort of content in SCUM, because SCUM can become boring once you reach your level of gear satisfaction. There isn't much left to do after that. DayZ never hooked me, probably because of the difficulty of fighting the zombies at the bottom tier. Also, I had experience with Chernarus in Arma 2, so the world felt pretty dead to me. I do, however, see you pulling plums from trees in Chernarus, so that adds a level of interactivity I had not known.
This video its misleading - yes if you compare base games DayZ its trash, but DayZ its all about mods and community - which you getting for free

- different maps (till these days ppl building new ones eg Azalea or Bitterroot) Namalsk, Banov or Deerisle just named few - which have build in quest line
- any game loop as you wish
- hardcore(low loot/no map/one life) / low/high loot, PVE/PVP/RP,
- configs - fully customized experience with lots of new mechanics e.g. any weapons/ any vehicles/ mining/ skills / advanced medicals/ base buildings/ quests / diving / stalker monsters and many many more even zombie who can open doors/jump on high things
- I could list many more things - community DayZ doing great job
This above gives players freedom what kind of server they can play.
So you could go on PVE server with high loot and learn the game easily
Dont get me wrong I love SCUM, but there is so many issues with that game atm - I believe its great base to be great game but its not there yet and I'm watching/playing since release 2018 and can see what decision/what has been achieved in the project"

how to join a friend in day z ? I have a friend and she in a solo created session but both of us dont know how to play together?
Yeah you have to join the same server name...whether that's one of the official ones (there will be other players on those servers), a private server (you can ask to join many private servers...find on reddit pages etc) or pay to rent your own server (i used to use Nitrado) and add your friends/get them to join that server name. I haven't played for a couple months myself so not sure if there has been any progress other than these suggestions. Are you both on PC?

dayz feels more real for me also gun shots sounds so real its scary,also in dayz laucher you have plenty of servers with dif mods plenty to try ,scum is nice but a bit too much c rap, and it feels laggy some times when shooting,.

Yeah I was on one when I played on xbox as mentioned in the vid. Reddit is a great place to find friendly servers too. Some great mods out there!
@@CoffeeBarbarian i dont know about dayz on consoles only pc,"you need to download dayzlauncher" on pc you have pve servers which is nice to learn about the game,some have dinos/monsters/more zeds/traders, easy loot etc.. its fun,also nice to learn building stuff,then you have hardcore servers, and normal servers,the amount of them are crazy and most are free to play on, and depending on the server you have bikes/motorbikes/boats/helicopters/cars/quads/snowmobiles etc... if you play on pc i guess by now you know about dayz laucher,since this was posted 3 months ago surely some one else said something similar.
I got scum back when it came out but have more hours in dayz but the cheaters in dayz is too much some times so I'm moving to scum
Yeah I preferred DayZ when I was on friendly servers or my own server. Just roaming around and exploring... heaven.

The map thing, its far better to not have a map imo, Or have a lootable map. I played a Scum server in hardcore settings with no map. So instead used a 3rd party map. it was cool to have to look at signs of town names then find them on the map to see where I was and to use the mountain range etc as I had no compass for direction reference.The only thing about that is cargo drops, if they were to remove map, the cargo drop smoke should be visibile from much further away and also fall slower/be more visible while dropping

@@thestroyer17 what is it about the current map system that you find enjoyable? If playing with a friend that is not as into hardcore survival, it is helpful while trying to meet up. As they can just send an image of their map location over discord etc.
For me as a solo or more interested in immersion, id like the red dot removed, map to be a lootable item and removal of floating nametags of sqaud mates.
Then, the mobile phone to become a gps similar to the current map that requires batteries and a mini hack game unlock, such as tapping it in to some location like near Brenner and hacking tech1 system. For example. Once done, squad mates should appear on gps with zoomable map, but floating tags should go for good.
Day Z is like this and people are more aware rather than relying on name tags.
never played dayz ,scum was my second survival game firstbeing mist survival. from the dayz videos i have seen, i find the graphics way to well basic for lack of a better word in dayz, much prefer scum, have over 7000 hours on it. now you mention maps. devs had said maps aretemporary on scum they will go away and you will have to make a map ingame
played some Mist. seems cheap and not that great. just thinking of getting scum. was wondering if you think i should? I mean is it a really good one and worth th emoney? its on sale now.
@@Cryptorocker2000 scum is currently 50% off as thursday evening uk time the new update is dropping 0.95. mist hassome decent ideas, one of best crafting setups i have seen but it is still new and long way to go but getting there. prolly a small dev team working on it. personally with 7000 + hours on scum i may be a bit biased but i would say buy it and see.
i did and its pretty painful starting out. cant figure anything out , cant even figure how to make a bag. I Created a stone knife and then i already lost itr somehow , it just falls out of my inventory or something.its like wtf@@razertheopportunist8790

I played 1500 hours in dayz and then decided to play scum one day. im now 9000 hours in scum and have never played dayz again.
Interesting I am a long time scum player came here to determine if I wanted to consider DZ when it goes on sale with the Halloween season. Just from listening to your review I'm probably not going to get it...scum definitely seems like the superior game. I really don't like the fact that they don't allow you to play by yourself and learn the game before being tossed into a bunch of players that have been playing for years. You end up with what happened to you at the end of the video and that is not fun to me. And by the way you can absolutely adjust the single player server settings in Scum... Just start a single player game and then pause the game and go to server settings there is a myriad of things you can change
Ahh that's fair enough. There's no doubt Scum is a superior game, game play wise BUT DayZ has it's own charm that's hard to encapsulate. I was able to play Dayz via gamepass on xbox first so didn't have to purchase the game to have a go per se so I was lucky in that regard.
Their are also plenty of friendly PVE only servers you can join so there's space to practice but each to their own. I was considering renting one again if people wanted to give it a go in a safe space.
I adjusted the single sever settings to start with on Scum but have to say being an actual admin on my own server is much more funsies. 🙃 Thanks for your comment.
Ive got a dayz server that's low pop and usually empty! Play it if you want to learn the ropes. Its on pc though. Dayz is the gold standard which all other games have tried to replicate but failed miserably. No game will give you heart palpations, adrenaline and butterflies like dayz does.
2 completely different games, hard to compare them tbh. dayz is a better pvp/interaction game while scum is a better pve game with more things to do but running into friendly players in scum is very rare. 10k hours in dayz and almost 3k in scum and i still play both because scums pvp/interaction isnt the best with the spawn system thats in place.
DayZ is pretty much a lost cause. 10 years since my initital purchase, the game is still incomplete and far behind other survival game that have surpassed it years ago. After taking the money from the initial launch and running, Bohemia Interactive has the audacity to ask for more money for a map pack despite the base game still being an unfinished mess. I dont care how many mods will fix this game, I dont care about superficial changes to the game engine. DayZ has and always will be a scam in my eyes, play something else, anything else, but for the love of god do not play DayZ and do not give Bohemia Interactive your money.

IMO scum blows dayz out of the water in nearly aspect. After 100 hrs on scum i uninstalled dayz for ever. Unless bohemia change it up drastically dayz is bound to die.
Nice to see some one play as their real life gender. Creeps me out hard when I see guys playing as females. 🤔I probably wouldn’t think that though if I saw a female play as a male. Never thought about it.
