Within the ADV category, yes. If you look at motorcycles as a whole, the segment isn’t a huge one. It’s why BMW do prototypes like this to see if they’ll produce enough sales to warrant putting it into production. It’s a niche within a niche.
@@amaldev4150 If BMW won't come with the 21-inch option in the size/category, many customers will give their money to the KTM 390adv.R and CF-moto 450MT, or Kove or or... I have had 3 BMW:s and all was replaced with better competition regarding off-road capabilities. But let's see what the final product will be, and what else will come also to the size category, some rumors have been also going about a "baby-Tenere"
Yeah. It's genius to finally make the lightweight off road oriented ADV bike with enough power to comfortably cruise on the highway after your customers have begged, cajoled and threatened you for years to make this bike. Such genius. How did BMW Motorrad come up with the idea for a bike like this? They're geniuses. 😀
@@costofexpansebrain8025 - Sorry. I didn't mean that as a dig at you. I'm a bit of an excitable boy on this topic. We've begged for years and Big Moto ignored us and told us to buy their heavy and expensive mid and full size ADV bikes. It wasn't until the Chinese tried to give us what we wanted that the Big Moto cartel was finally forced to follow suit to avoid losing market share. I was trying to take a dig at the weasel greed head management and marketing at the big motorcycle companies who tried to sell us what they wanted us to buy rather than trying to make what we wanted.
Competition pushes you to do good things.. thanks to mid range adv bikes and people loving them- bmw finally realised what they were missing from their lineup.
I love my G310GS. I was hoping for a G450GS or an R450GS or R650GS, but if this has a large enough fuel capacity to be a *real* GS (15 liters or even better, 20 liters) and it's 175 kg , then TAKE MY MONEY.
@@gzahnd - Despite its looks that are too pretty for dirt, the G310GS does surprisingly well off road. It's definitely not a dual sport and could do much better with upgraded suspension and tubeless spoke wheels but there are a few videos on RUclips showing the factory stock baby GS ridden hard off road and it's surprising what it can do. As usual, the rider is almost always the limiting factor. While I love the added 14 HP and more off road capability of the F450GS at the same weight as the G310GS and I've wanted a lightweight more off road oriented ADV bike with the power to comfortably cruise on highways, I'm glad the F450GS has the 19/17 wheel setup. 21/18 would provide even better off road performance but at the expense of road performance. The F450GS is an ADV bike, and I think the 19/17 setup will be the best solution for on road and off road performance, particularly given the off road oriented suspension travel and ground clearance of the F450GS. The production version will no doubt have 90% street tires but the 50/50 tires of the concept bike should make the F450GS the unicorn ADV bike we've wanted... assuming BMW doesn't make one stupid mistake such as giving the F450GS a tiny 12 liter fuel tank.
@@gzahnd - The G310GS needs tubeless spoke wheels and better suspension for more serious off road, but it's an ADV bike so it's mostly used for urban transportation, secondary roads, gravel roads, dirt roads and light off road for moto camping. That's how I use my G310GS. However, put some 50/50 tires on there instead of the stock 90% street tires and it's surprising where it'll go off road, if you aren't trying to race it. I've seen a couple of videos where a talented rider takes a stock G310GS off road and rides some surprisingly rugged terrain. As usual, the rider is the limiting factor.
@@gzahnd - Since 1975, I'd always ridden small dual sport thumpers. For my 60th birthday four years ago, I bought myself a G310GS. I wanted a lightweight ADV bike for old man adventures on back roads, gravel roads, dirt roads and mild off road. It's been very good for that. I intentionally didn't get a small dual sport because I wanted more road comfort and better road manners and the G310GS has been a very comfortable and easy bike to ride. It definitely doesn't have the off road capability of a dual sport but it's a good compromise for how I now ride. The F450GS will be even better off road and I suspect it'll be better on road as well.
YES !!! A lightweight bmw gs again … still riding f 650 gs dakar because nothing like this is available from bmw. I am really looking forward to this ❤
@@martyn_gyeah. But seems like they are serious about putting it into production. Now if they can get the cost performance ratio right this bike is gonna sell
Yes. An upgrade to the G310GS in off road capability and range, without added weight. If they do this, the F450GS is a huge winner. I have ZERO interest in the BMW Motorrad marketing department's desire for me to "upgrade" to their big heavy F900GS or R1300GS. This off road oriented light mid-weight ADV bike looks perfect.
What great news this morning! Thank you! BMW finally listened to its customers after the entire motorcycle cartel telling us for decades that we can't have a lightweight off road oriented ADV bike with enough power to cruise on the highway. I suspect the market made you do it. The Chinese listened and responded with the CFMoto 450 Ibex, Kove 450 Rally.... 300+ mile range, please.
The F450GS is rumored to be manufactured at the TVS plant in India, like the G310GS. The F450GS won't be cheap because it's not a cheap bike, but it should be reasonably priced, relatively speaking.
It's an adventure bike. It needs to be good on the street and the dirt. It has a lot of ground clearance and suspension travel and should be good off road. The F450GS is more of a lightweight off road bike than other ADV bikes by overwhelming customer demand but the 21/18 wheel setup would make the F450GS handle like a dual sport on the road.
hopefully the exhaust wont burn the back on my shoes anymore on this one vs. the 310gs. hopefully abs can be turned off as well, and not like the later model g310gs. whats the fuel capasity? hoping they can shave off a few kg, since its quite heavy for a 450 with 48hp, if they can manage to cut down the weigth to 155-165kg range it would be perfect
I truly love these adventurers. I thought I should have one, but there's no perfect limited engine for Indian roads. Please build these machines with a 300cc segment too,🙌🙏
