That low frequency rumble around the 3:00 mark is one of the things I love most about those old turbo EMD prime movers. That sound used to sing me to sleep at night when I lived close to an MKT line as a kid in the 80's. Love the SD40-2's.
These are the sounds I miss. Takes me back about 25 years to lying in bed at night hearing three or more 40-2’s clawing unit coal up grade. Sometimes even a couple on the rear screaming and purring in run 8 for about 5 miles fading into the distance before reaching the grade. 645 ‘s are still the best sounding EMD’s. They can be on their knees and somehow get it done 👍
That's pretty crazy having the track run right next to the road at around the 3 minute mark. So a total of 6 engines running to power this train? Also, can you end up stalling a locomotive where the engine isn't directly turning the wheels but just generating power for the motors?
If the wheel's aren't turning then it's stalled. On an engine with DC traction motors, continuing to feed power into them will burn them up. AC motors on the other hand can sit all day stalled at power and not be destroyed. I agree about that road being so close. No different than street running I guess.
Nice video brother ... Love the EMD's but you definitely got ripped on the K5LA ... Just a few blurps at each crossing instead of a full blast of that beautiful thing ... Yeah you got ripped ....
This has to be one of the worst sounding train horns out there. It's so shrill and it sounds like it is a push button solinoid activated horn rather than a regular pull valve. God awful sound I can't blame them for not wanting to lay on it.
I've actually worked on that particular engine@@dylandopsovic7045. And it's only shrill like that because of the electric horn button if it would still have the air valve you could feather it to a most melodic sound.

I watch this video over and over again!!! Nice work and catch!!! Loved them EMD prime movers at Notch 8!!!

Low revs or high revs, those EMD's are music to the ears! Nice video.
Great audio! Thanks for sharing!
At 9:04 what a great place to live.
Whats even better is that it used to be a station

I want to know who has the house with the porch overlooking the whole connection!

You'd blurp it, too, if you sat right under it. I promise.

Good catch. Love the prime mover sounds.
why are they backing up the
train, at the end?
Probably backing into a siding
was that house in west bethel a former depot? I cant imagine anyone building a house that close to the tracks
I would
sucks that NS has sold LOTS of the SD40-2s this year
such clean engines.
Thanks airing and sharing the outstanding vid.Bliss
i love that roar is so awesome
GP40’ is the baddest loco I swear they are
CP Rail and Canada tanker cars way down south.👍
There are no tanker cars
Yer probably referring to the maroon bulk grain carriers coming from Canada's western prairies.
Canadian grain being exported to the USA 🇺🇸.
Sounds more like 6 or 7, but your sources may be more credible than my ears lol.
5:30 - 8:21 is definitely run 8
5:24-5:25 is the change from run 7 to 8
