I feel like the Lavine trade is recency bias. Bulls have been trying to dump that contract for years because it’s been one of the biggest albatrosses of a contract the last 3 years. Not to mention the nuggets already have size issue, a lack of forward and center depth, defense issues, and a log jam at the guard positions already. Lavine makes all that worse. Plus even though Lavine is a good shooter and the nuggets need more shooting, trading MPJ means loosing their best shooter not named jokic for someone who might not even be a better shooter. Trading MPJ for him feels like a panic move that slightly improves the short term offensive “problems” for greater defensive and depth woes that with lavine’s larger and longer contract, become harder to fix. I love MPJ’s fit on the nuggets, but if you gotta move him, move him for a player that either answers your problems or atleast leaves you the wiggle room to try and answer those problems.
