I'm a Trader Joe's employee. This is the scoop: Manufacturer is trying hard to catch up with the demand. Right now, they can't even give us a date of when we can order again. So I'm crossing my fingers that it will come back as a staple in our skincare aisle. Because with my 20% discount, this is the cheapest sunscreen I own that doesn't give awful white cast (and hasnt broken me out yet)

@@HelenFire420 that's the first time I've heard that claim. I don't know. But I can tell you this - most of the manufacturers corporate contracts are midsized companies. Some of them folded during the pandemic, thus delays/shortages/discontinue of the usual fan favorites. I did have a customer who bought like 10 of our moisturizer with SPF & told me she works with cosmetic chemists in the beauty industry and apparently our skincare is made in the same place as the big brands. I guessed she was talking about L'Oreal.

I’m not a cosmetic formulator but my guess as to why the Supergoop one didn’t break you out as much is because, unlike the Trader Joe’s sunscreen, the Supergoop one contains Zinc Sulfate, an anti-inflammatory, anti-blemish ingredient that gently exfoliates the skin.
Ooo that’s actually interesting 🧐 do you think they’d be equal if there was another product using zinc sulfate + the Trader Joe’s?

I'm acne-prone & the Trader Joe's sunscreen has worked great so far for both my face and body. I actually prefer the less oily formula & this might be my new holy grail SPF - so cheap & makes my skin look so good! I'll be buying one every time I make a Trader Joe's run now 😁

I got the Native sunscreen, $20 for a much larger amount (5 oz). I cried when I heard supergoop was only 1.7 oz for $38 (hell no, I don't care how good it is). so far the Native one doesn't burn my eyes or break me out!
I'm interested in the Native Body Sunscreen. Is it mineral? Are you acne prone? Is it a matte sunscreen and when you apply on your face you say it dosen't break you out? :o

Someone mentioned the bum bum cream dupe didn't have the retinol and caffeine in it, if that's true, get them from the ordinary and mix them in.
Trader Joe‘s is a ALDI brand in the US. I‘m from Germany, and what you described is a typical way how so called „discounter“ supermarkets here in Germany. I recognised it especially in food, but I never tested cosmetics or skin care 🤷♀️
Didn’t know that it was such a secrete over in the US how they can offer such a good price to the customers.
But one thing is sure, Trader Joe‘s has a nicer stock than ALDI here🙃

Trader Joe's started in Pasadena, California in 1967. Although Aldi Nord operates Trader Joe's in the U.S., the brands are run separately & are a completely different company than the Aldi we know in the States.
Can you switch sides and see if the same thing happens? I wonder if your left side is actually getting more sun exposure (due to being more exposed when you are driving in your car perhaps) and therefore more prone to breakouts because of that. I myself have noticed that as I am getting older I actually break out mainly in more sun exposed areas, and that I breakout more when I am in the sun more. Took me a while to realize that because it was sort of the opposite as a teenager.
I think when you're a teen, the acne causing bacteria gets reduced by a little sun exposure, but then when you're older, the sun just BEATS on you and creates damaged proteins which lead to inflammation. As a teen your body can keep up more with inflamnation, but older skin benefits more from pampering with antioxidants/sun protection.
I was looking up review videos on supergoop and came across ur video. Really appreciate that u did days of the review. Most ppl just try it on and review. But we always need to see how stuff wears
I love Supergoop because I wear foundation over it and makes me look flawless. I know it pricey but worth it to me . I was never able to try Trader Joes because it was always sold out in my area. But Dr. Drey did a video on Neotrogena who came out with a new mineral sunscreen available in 4 shades, hurray! Will have to give that one a try. I use different sunscreen on my body.
I love your personality. Let's stick with the goop baby boop. I personally use thinksport everyday face sunscreen, it feels oily but I have dry skin so it's kinda nice and glowy.
I was so excited for the Trader Joe's dupe! For me it cause burning and stinging in my eyes. Supergoop doesn't.

Thanks for the extensive comparison. I was excited about the Trader Joe's until you got to the ingredients. Mineral sunscreen is my choice due to the possibility of the absorption of the chemicals in the chemical sunscreen. I prefer Biossance Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen. It's mineral, and goes on clear with NO FLASHBACK on brown skin. It's very moisturizing and I can actually skip moisturizer when I use it.
The Trader Joe's hasn't broken me out, oily skin and acne prone. But I only use on my face and neck.

L&L Skin has a pricey but very very satisfying UV mirror to see at any point in the day if you’re SPF covered!! Gothamista touched on it but wondering you thoughts. Especially for the full removal of the SPF after washing. Thanks for you deep dives lovely!

Hey Cassandra! I feel like you're the best person to ask for my question! I saw this video of dupes, and was reminded of a product I've been trying to dupe myself! I have been repressing broken eyeshadows, or "re-panning" powders into smaller pans, to make my makeup kit lighter for travel. In my depotting journey, I was using "Fixy binding solution". Imagine my shock when I realized there was only 2 ingredients in this solution : isopropyl alcohol and cyclomethicone.
So... I thought... Why not just buy both of these products separately, and get WAY more bang for my buck, since Fixy is charging an insane amount of money for this solution....
My dilemma here, is that I have little to no knowledge in chemistry, and no idea what the ratio should be, to create my own solution. Do you think using alcohol and cyclomethicone is a good option, or isopropyl Myristate? Or am I crazy and should use something else? I basically just need a liquid solution that would help wet the shadows and help hold them together.
I know you're not a makeup chemist, but I figured with your knowledge of ingredients, and knowing what is in the fixy solution, you could give me a little advice! ❤️ I plan on filling up a 2oz bottle, just want to make sure I add the right amount of both liquids! Any help or info you could give would be amazing! ❤️

Super goop burned my eyes but otherwise I liked it for the couple days I tried it. It’s Korean/Japanese sunscreens for me nowadays as they don’t irritate my eyes. Thanks for the video. Very thorough! ❤️

I really love Supergoop! as a brand and will continue to be a regular customer. They have a subscription and rewards program that make it easier and more affordable to always have spf protection. It's my partners favorite daily sunscreen that doesn't leave his beard looking white. We layer our Supergoop! products for the body and face, including makeup.
I know I’ve said this in a previous video, but it makes me feel so much better knowing even Cassandra Bankson can have the same acne scarring I have 🥰 I just wish I wasn’t so insecure about them 😅 and definitely don’t want to wear foundation or concealer as a guy and be judged (self consciousness + insecurities = fun times).
Maybe a tinted sunscreen over a good pore reducing primer? Elf has putty primers that tend to fill in acne scars and difuse redness, but they are clear. Just a thought, if u didn't want to go the full make up route. I'm not much for make up in the summer months, so I use the pore less putty primer, some under eye concealer (the nyx can't stop, won't stop is pretty great and affordable), a tinted sunscreens translucent pressed powder (Maybelline fit me is great and affordable) and a matte setting spray (nyx matte in the black bottle). None of these items cost more than $10-$12, and most are $5-$10 on Amazon, except the sunscreen of course. I used a k beauty toner sunscreen (it is meant to replace a primer and has some color correction) in the summer, A'pieua (think I spelled it right, lol) it is $15 or less for the 1.7 oz tube. I have combination skin, which gets a little oily in summer and dry in winter. These are products I use while working in the heat. Hope that helps!
2 thoughts: A dermatologist may be able to perform procedures that would help with the scarring. You can consult one and see what can be done, and then save up to have the procedures.
And something I realized about 25 years ago: People have their own problems and often don't notice the things you're horribly self conscious about. One time, I went on a job interview with a nasty pimple on my face, and I got the job.
It's unfortunate that you won't use anything with bee products! Equate (Walmart brand) has an spf 100 ultra lightweight sunscreen that's honestly fantastic! The only thing in it that's not vegan is beeswax, but it's so so good, and this is coming from someone whose skin is practically translucent 😁
What is the name of the sunscreen from Walmart? Waterproof? Does it burn or sting your eyes when you apply on your face? I'm super interested because this would be a great sunscreen for days outside or the beach! Chemical sunscreens are 50/50 for me they either irritate my eyes or don't. Which is why I tend to use mineral on my face and chemical on the rest of my body.
@@zoeysayed8710 it's the Equate Beauty Ultra Light Sunscreen lotion, in spf 100. It's water resistant, doesn't sting my eyes. It's been fantastic for when I have to be out in the sun, especially keeping me from getting a driving tan lol.

Loves this dupe review. I hesitate to try it because my skin is acne prone like Cassandra’s. My ride or die daily chemical sunscreen is Neutrogena Clear Skin Break Out Free SPF 30. It’s matte finish and fragrance free. Alas, lately it hasn’t been stocked where I live. I will have to stock up when I visit stateside next month, along with some other skincare goodies. My skin has never broken out while using this product. I suspect that the ingredient Chlorphenesin is working it’s anti microbial action here🙂

I was literally the first customer at my TJs to purchase this the very day they showed up in boxes. The employees had been waiting with bells on for them to arrive. I had a different SPF at the counter and she mentioned it. I asked and she was like “wait I’ll check and see if it’s in…” it was. I was customer #1.
I'm British and been using Altruist Sun Cream spf50 5* 4+ it cost £9 for 2 × 100ml . I'm waiting on a StyleVana haul where I will be trying BoJ rice one . 👏❤🇬🇧🌈
I splurged on supergoop a while back and I love it. I use the matte screen so it goes on like the smashbox primer. I use that indoors and neutrogena hydroboost spf 50 while im out
I bought it once when it was plentiful after hearing it was sold out in many locations. I've been back twice, and it's been sold out both times. I thought people must be stocking up or reselling. I've been using Japanese brand Rohto Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture, which is different but just as good--more moisturizing, not clear out of the bottle but goes on clear, plus it's SPF 50+ instead of SPF 40. It's also a bit cheaper per ounce than Trader Joe's. I may not even go back to Trader Joe's.

Have you ever try HOLIKA HOLIKA aloe waterproof sun gel? I LOVE this one, and they have sunscreen spray from the same line- SPF 50 and it doesn't ruin your make-up. Highly recommend!!!
I've been using the Dollar Shave Club oil-free moisturizer, it's got SPF 30 and is typically $10 but I got it for free with an order of a razor and blades. I'm so pale that I can't tell if it leaves a white-cast or not, but it doesn't break me out, doesn't sting my eyes (I haven't cried enough while wearing it to know if that would make it sting but just chilling, it's fine), it doesn't seem to do the pilling thingy, I can wear it over acne and rosacea and nothing bad happens, and I have very sensitive skin typically. 1.7 oz, broad spectrum, pump dispenser, avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene, shea butter, multiple different olive ingredients,. I personally really like it, it does have fragrance but it's the very last ingredient. I don't know if you've ever tried it Cassandra, but I would be interested in your opinion on this!
In the Midwest we have a store called Kroger and we have dupes for both this product and the supergoop sunscreen oil as well. If you can get your hands on it try it!! They’re the Kroger brand. The normal sunscreen dupe looks almost exactly like the supergoop one so I feel like it’s more of a dupe than this product

Loved the Trader Joe's sunscreen. Literally the best feeling sunscreen I've ever used. My one hesitation with it is that it has the same weakness as every other American sunscreen: subpar UVA protection 😩
I'm loving Japanese brand Rohto Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture after not being able to get more Trader Joe's the last two times I went. Cheaper than Trader Joe's, too.
J or K beauty are the way to go. Inwill never go bsck to US sunscreen. I do use the baby sun sticks from copper tone since they are all mineral and work for my little one and for my body, but only on days we are actually outside.

Can you please recommend a good mineral sunscreen, without white cast, that is water-resistant? I find most mineral sunscreens aren't.
she has a video rating the cast-i-ness of mineral sunscreens. I don't recall if she was specifically doing water-resistant, but I'd still suggest looking for that video both to give it the view and to see how they worked on her in real time.

So I’m still stuck with the tinted Australian gold, but the shade is off for my skin tone, so still ever on the lookout for some.thing better. I have yet to find a chemical sunscreen that doesn’t irritate and break my skin out :/
i recently found the skin aqua uv super moisture gel from japan spf 50 pa ++++ and its been very good!
Biore is really good, the best I have found. My eyes are super sensitive and it's not too bad for non mineral. If you have dry skin apply a good moisturizer first.
I highly recommend the Summer Fridays SUNMILK. It’s amazing! It’s certainly a pretty penny but it’s the best I can find for the price!
The aussie gold sensative skin for kids formula is good with some face powder. And cheap :)
I just bought a small supergoop unseen yesterday to try. I think I paid 17.00. I want to make sure it won't break me out, but if you're recommending it, I feel better 😊 I also was thinking about trying the eltamd tinted as well.

@cassandrabankson I have a question concerning the breaking out on one side but not the other as much. Are you perhaps a side sleeper? Is the side you break out on more the side you sleep on as in the side that touches your bedding? I personally am I side sleeper myself and I keep my bedding very clean as I imagine you do but the side of my body that touches my bedding is definitely more prone to breaking out. Maybe this situation could be playing a part in why one sunscreen appears to break you out vs the other? Just curious about your thoughts. That thing about the products isn't really a secret. Here in Europa/The Netherlands its with things that mass produce like supermarket or pharmacy kind of basic knowledge that the difference between the 'A+' brands or lower brands that most off them come from the same factory but that just some ingredients are different and/or packaging like this product but for like 90%-95% there the same product.

Hi! Can you do a video on how to layer makeup like foundation on top of the sunscreen and how to reapply? I don't know why, but my foundation/concealer seems to get patchy over sunscreen

I heard or read somewhere that Trader Joe's business model is to introduce new products with buzz and not to restock them when they sell out. I don't know if that's true.
I will say, they sold a cleanser many years back that I liked. I bought a bottle to try it, and went back and got another bottle, and was never able to get it again. Idk, maybe it didn't sell well.

I LOVE the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen so I will absolutely have to try the Trader Joe's one when I get a chance. I usual use the Unseen on my face then use then I have the Play lotion in the pump for the rest of my body.

How often do you reapply every day? On days where you aren't particularly spending a lot of time outdoors? I've always wondered if we are supposed to reapply every 2hrs no matter what.
every 2hrs in direct sunlight, i know cassandra and other derms like to apply at times like 9am,12pm,4pm

Wouldn't this more depend on what you are doing and how much you sweat? And also how much time you are actually in the sun or shade.

Cassandra you should try skin 79 waterproof sungel uv. I m not a fan of dimethicone on my skin but, i should say I never tried anything more lightweighted.
