The lightning bolt just means that the locomotive is AC powered. Originally the lightning bolt was put on locomotives that had radios installed. Shortly after WW2 trains started using radios more and more to communicate with and the lightning bolt was put on locomotives that had a radio installed. Over time they stopped doing that because all of the new locomotives got radios. So it died off and then CSX revived the idea of the lightning bolt but this time it meant that the locomotive was AC powered.
I think that brake piston is a thing worth repeating often, since it's a very important thing to be aware of when moving on and around parked trains. Take care Shoestring and i wish you a happy new year and good health, stay safe!

Actually, a gumshoe was a sort of precursor to the modern sneaker (Funny how I never thought of the origin of the name sneaker until now). Gumshoes were worn predominately in the late 1800’s, and we’re noted for their stealthy attributes. The term “gum” was nearly interchangeable for rubber, indicating they had a rubber (or like material) sole which, compared to other footwear of its time, was rather quiet on hard surfaces. The nickname stuck for police and private detectives due to the nature of their occupation and is still in use to this day.
CSX 10 years or so would advertise to move freight for .02C per mile that’s pretty incredible! Good luck shoeString with good results on procedure and great recovery, I’m anxious to bid on the coins 😊

they might use those engines with the AH designation, like the one you pointed out, on coal because coal trains are heavy and AH is a designation that indicates extra ballast has been added to the engine to increase its tractive effort
12:00 I think someone has painted Stobe , the one who died a few years back. That's some impressive art. Some people are quite talented, it's a shame they consider it vandalism. I suppose it's both vandalism and art at the same time . I always liked all that spraycan art. You don't see it as much these days on the trains.
@@MegsHappyLife Art has always been subjective, and a lot of art in museums is ugly to many. A portrait done with a spray can and not a brush makes it less art? It becomes a question of 'where' it is painted, but not the painting itself.

The “AH” on GE locomotives denote a “Heavy” version of the regular AC44/AC45 locomotives(44’s and 45’s are the same thing, UP likes to be special). With the added 20 tons (220 to 224 tons) they’re uprated to 14.4 equivalent powered axles instead of 12.1. They pull significantly harder at slow speed. Easily an extra 20,000lbs of tractive effort at 10 to 14mph. They are a relatively new locomotive. The engine numbers are assigned by the Railroad and have do have a code. In 20 years on the rail, I haven’t figured it out. Especially with all of the very recent electrical updates(PTC/EMS etc).
I can recall going to shopping malls, etc and there were machines there into which you inserted your penny/nickel/whatever and you cranked the handle to flatten the coin and impress an image into the coin. What a shame to think that all those machines were "illegal" ... smh Hang In There, Shoe
When it comes to eBay I never do auctions cause people just mess them up on purpose. I always just do buy now. Learned that lesson along time ago. Don’t do auction just use the BUY IT NOW ✌🏻🚂🔥🔥🔥🔥
60 years ago over here in UK near Basingstoke, Hampshire, us lads would put 1/2 pence pieces on the main tracks to be pressed to double the size.. Big pacific locos such as the Merchant Navy class would do the job. We then used the coins in chewing gum machine. It really worked. Love the videos Mike

Good luck on your auction! I would bid but more than I can afford at the moment. Stay safe!
Modern day Woody Guthrie....Bound for Glory,Shoestring
they might use those engines with the AH designation, like the one you pointed out, on coal because coal trains are heavy and AH is a designation that indicates extra ballast has been added to the engine to increase its tractive effort
Good video ,I'm slowly getting my grandchildren interested in Shoestring videos
12:00 I think someone has painted Stobe , the one who died a few years back. That's some impressive art. Some people are quite talented, it's a shame they consider it vandalism. I suppose it's both vandalism and art at the same time . I always liked all that spraycan art. You don't see it as much these days on the trains.
Vandalism pure and simple. Urban Art, my ass.
smh... I disagree with you... its NOT ART.. its freaking disgusting in my opinion lmao
@@MegsHappyLife Art has always been subjective, and a lot of art in museums is ugly to many. A portrait done with a spray can and not a brush makes it less art? It becomes a question of 'where' it is painted, but not the painting itself.
I love seeing the graffiti on trains
Hey shoestring you should be able to go to the VA and have the doctor there get a hold of the doctor you were seeing to have your things sent to the VA you should check it out.we watch your videos all the time keep up the r/r hopping and we will keep our prayers for you.

Happy New Years Shoestring 🙏📸
I can recall going to shopping malls, etc and there were machines there into which you inserted your penny/nickel/whatever and you cranked the handle to flatten the coin and impress an image into the coin. What a shame to think that all those machines were "illegal" ... smh Hang In There, Shoe
Yup i have few of those Do they still have them?
Cabelas and bass pro still have them
When it comes to eBay I never do auctions cause people just mess them up on purpose.
I remember doin' that, lol.
Mark have you ever considered traveling on amtrack and making videos comparing different ticket classes?
Haha hobo shoestring dont ride the cushions
I just looked at the coins on eBay!!!!!! Holy cow congratulations on the bids!!!!!

Awesome!! A new video. Good to see you. Love the flattened coins. It's going to be mad fun seeing what those coins do on eBay. Love seeing you out in the yard. Before you know it, you'll be healthy as a horse and riding the iron rails. If I ever see a train rider, I'm not going to say anything. They aren't hurting anything

I'd say get something that films 1080p so your videos age 'well'. I don't watch much 4k but I do apprecaite 1080p. You're the only fellow I watch in 720p. I'd really like to see 1080p!!! Especially when you be showing country.
Take care of your health first SS, enjoy your train yard info vids. You will be riding very soon stay patient.
CSX has ran a Q652 north and a Q653 south the last few days on the Clinchfield, maybe just reroute trains. They run Russell KY to Rocky Mount NC, and the same back. I was able to make a video of them today.
Happy New Year Shoestring , your videos will never be Dull or Boring.
Wow!..Did You expect the Flattened Coins to do that well!?

Happy New Year!! It’s great to see you!!
You were not kidding about the wind I was moving from Pennsylvania to Southern Kentucky that day my vehicle was getting tossed around on the highway a lot it started around Columbus Ohio and didn't die down till I was almost home near Russellville KY my big SUV was like driving on a waterbed yeah it was over loaded a bit 😂. Hope you get your test done soon everyone is using COVID as a excuse today when they mess up.
There's always great rides when you aren't geared up;) Best wishes in every way for 2922.
The man is a living legend but I don't think we'll be getting 900 more years out of him.
Every time!
When you roll out too
Hey Shoestring! Glad you're back! Been missing your vids! I wish I had discovered you years ago. Just wanted you to know the best video I like is the Minnesota to Nebraska one. You didn't want to go back to Fargo. Most favorite video! Take care! FEB, 11 2022, Hey at 30:13 did any one else see that frog jump along the rail as he panned back from his pan up start point? Did you see the frog "Shoestring" in real life or do you see it now in the vid. Just caught my eye today. That's why I watch videos over and over cause the brain doesn't always catch everything!! Have a good one!!* p.s. Minnesota to Nebraska still favorite and solid rocket / planting seeds probably the 2nd best.
Happy New Year Shoestring! Pity about the dates getting pushed back all the time. It's happening over here too. I'm glad you're in out the wind for now anyway. Take Care and Keep Warm! All the Best!
Ebay sucks! Shame on them! People have been flattening coins FOREVER! Ponchartrain Beach's arcade had a machine that did this. That was illegal? So, use another item. One that's yours personally. Make sure it's an item that flattens big enough to sign your name on it...then, sell THAT! (My husband started me watching your videos, I've ALWAYS been fascinated by trains...totally captivated by them!) Even when you're not riding, your videos are always interesting! You're very knowlegable on a LOT of different subjects! Stay safe, take care & HEALTH FIRST! We'll be here waiting patiently for your next ride video! P.S. In the future, can you let us know the time at the beginning of each ride? I'm always wondering if it's morning or evening! Thanks!
