    In this video, we visit Cabello Lake State Park and Pie Town, New Mexico. I show you a sat view of both places and some on the ground footage in Pie Town.
    Pie Town has a free "dry camping" campground and several little cafes the sell good home cooking and plenty of delicious pies! It made a great overnight location as we have begun our journey back west and north.
    More info at this blog post - sweets.serious...
    Had an excellent breakfast at the Gatherin Place cafe watching the days pies being made and loaded up on some 6" pies. I got the New Mexico Apple that contains some Hatch Green Chiles.

    Any place called pietown is a town I could get behind. About the time I think I'd like to boon-dock I see the places you go and I just don't think I could get myself to take my truck down those roads. Have fun and don't get a stomachache eating all those pies.

    This has probably already been covered , but there is some very famous photos of Pie Town NM taken in 1940 by Russell Lee. A collection of Excellent color pictures called ‘A slice of America’ . I would think that is their claim to fame, and the pictures would be all over town. Sorry if this had already been brought up.

    Thanks for bringing back fond memories. We owned a cabin in Overgaard, AZ (Hwy 260) and in late summer would head over to Pie Town for the festival. Great time and extremely crowded. Also, an interesting fact about the Hatch Chili growing season - the drier the season, the hotter the chili. And in dry years they are VERY hot. Enjoy the pies!!!

    We drove through Pie Town November 2017 on the way to South Rim Grand Canyon. We didn’t realize all the pie shops until we were almost through it, stopped at the last one and it was closed so we continued onto Flagstaff. The VLA was cool to see unexpectedl and later found out it was a film location for the movie Contact, with Jodie Foster.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  5 лет назад

      Not much difference that I can feel. I usually put down the rear stabilizer jacks and sometimes put the front down a little taking some weight. I usually only leave the truck hooked for overnight stays and if the ground isn't too unlevel.

    I visited Pie Town last October. Great pies! However, I came from I40, past El Malpais and then followed Google's recommended route of Pie Town Rd. It had rained recently and it was a long white knuckle drive over washboard roads and slippery mud! I didn't arrive until after the cafes had closed and didn't know about the campground, so I was grateful to have the wide shoulder to park on for the night. Visit, but don't take that route! The Acoma Pueblo and El Malpais are worth a visit, too, if you're in the area.

    Hey Ray , a totally off topic question. Do you use grease on 5th wheel hitch or one of those plates and pro’s or cons...

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  5 лет назад

      The hitch has 3 zerk fittings for adding grease, the inside of the jaws gets a thin layer of lube, the pin box has a Teflon lube plate.
      I've used the Teflon plates now for 8 years and never had an issue. Work great and no mess.

    • @nonrevhogan8938
      @nonrevhogan8938 5 лет назад

      Love Your RV Yes I’m talking about those teflon plates. Cool , I know people use but I haven’t heard if anybody has had it fail. And not using it too long. You get a yr out of it? I like the part of not having all that grease all over plate. Seems that would attract dirt too. Thanks Ray.

    Do you think we would have problems with that large of a trailer

      Your choice of campsites would be more limited but there looked like a few that you could get into. Being dirt though things likely change with weather and how often then get a grader in there and trim back trees.
