@@RailWeekly That was wonderful - thank you so much! One of my late relatives (Helene Chadwick), at one point was quite well-known in silent pictures. In those days she would take the Golden State Limited from LA to Chicago (sometimes she would advertise for that train) and then the 20th Century from there. It did not stop in Utica, NY, the city nearest where the family lived, but they would for her. The newspapers and photographers would be waiting. She would come to Chadwicks to visit her grandmother and aunt and then continue on to NYC on a different train to visit her sister and friends she knew from her early film days in New York.

“the Hickory Creek is the last surviving original car from the 20th Century Limited”
Maumee River and Sandy Creek have entered the chat

Thank you!! I wasn’t aware of the sandy creek. Looks like it’s on the NS office car train at the moment? Perhaps I should have said “still in NYC livery”. I’m unfamiliar with the Maumee River however. Have any more info? :-)

Great to have discovered your channel, Mike. I've just subscribed.
Hoping to ride Hickory Creek this coming autumn! Meantime, may I ask about a couple of your vantage points (I'm not a competitor; I shoot stills only!), as I also want to shoot it from along the right of way on other days -The view toward the end by the water with Manhattan in tele perspective - is that accessible by foot or only from on the Hudson? Also, the high view of back of train at Breakneck Ridge - where were you stationed?
Thanks so much for any guidance!

Hi Steve! No such thing as a competitor! The more rail fans, the better! The shot you’re talking about is taken from the parking lot of the Half Moon Restaurant at the Dobbs Ferry Metro North stop. I actually explain this photo location in this video if this helps… ruclips.net/video/d1Wko5PvsJE/видео.html

Fun fact the luxurious car actually came from the Morristown in Erie Railway then the Morristown and Erie railway bring it up to Sunnyside yard and then the Amtrak train picked it up I know that because when I was at the Morristown and Erie railway to get some nice videos of the excursion. Does nobody feel that calling this 2023 version of the 20th Century Limited is a push of the imagination that seems to exist to cash in on the name? Apart from the 4-course meal and views that any train on that route will provide, what do you get for your $350 +tax?
It is one old-style Pullman Diner car (that could be argued is a fair representation of the older Pullmans) at the end of modern common Amfleet carriages and pulled by a modern common run-of-the-mill GE Genesis diesel loco. Looking at most of the artwork from years gone by and they highlighted either the E7/8 and J-3 locos because they caught people's attention and imagination, but the 2023 website does not seem to have one single shot of the motive power that is used. It is like they are hiding the fact that it is just a boring older commuter GE Genesis type loco pulling modern common AmFleet carriages found on so many commuter routes. So one single carriage could be argued as having a loose connection but the rest of it!!!!!
You might as well use an RO-RO ferry to represent the Titanic and dress up one of the eating areas to look like the Titanic's 'A la Carte' restaurant. Then charge $350 per 4-course meal.
