Saw them at the Bel Air in the suburbs of Newcastle on this tour. As incongruous and at the same time as appropriate a venue as could be possible. Still one of the best gigs I've seen.
By their measure of success they were a huge sensation. Although the music I create today sounds nothing like them this band was a major influence on me and so many other musicians I know. Too bad the music business they despised ended up tearing them apart in the long run. Cool interview!
The tension seems so apparent at this point in the bands life. You can see the look on Ray's and Klaus' face every time they feel interrupted or stifled by Jello to the point where Ray and Klaus are looking away and talking to amongst themselves after being shut out of the interview. Granted, Jello was the mouthpiece of the band, but he still had a rude streak with his band mates when it came to interviews.
@i o The Kennedy's were far better musicians than AC/DC, the only reason AC/DC is "one of the greatest rock bands of all time" is because the commercial music industry says they are. Just because they sell more records doesn't mean their music has more substance, quite the opposite. It's mindless cheap thrills manufactured for mass appeal.
In spite of anything else that might be said about the man, Jello (Eric) did have very intellectual parents and clearly wanted that to be something the average person saw more of, encouraging people to think for themselves and showing them a way or two to actually do it. It's easy to understand whatever frustration comes out of that context. Sadly, the internet could be living up to more of those examples. Time seems to filter out a fair amount of the garbage though....
got to see them in Adelaide during this tour and got to hang out with them as a band I roadied for was a their support act cool fellas although a little straight, excepting the drummer
Because they sold out to a record label which technically something the spirit of rock n roll is against. He wasn't talking about their sound or lyrics.
@pisswizard 1st off biafra doesnt own the copyright for the DK logo...thats his old bandmates who cash in on the shity shirts... biafra was also sued by them for what he said was about not wanting holiday in cambodia in a levis advert because they use sweatshops... on the subject of australian music...how many bands would have been known in america in a time before the internet? and if he did know about others he would obviously use the 2 biggest bands so just chill out babe
@pisswizard he said that they weren't controversial, he didnt say they were shit... AC/DC are far from controversial...especialy when compared to bands like the DK's all AC/DC do is talking about fighting, fucking and drinking...maybe for their time that was controvertial but so was elvis is the 50s he never said ether band were shit...you just heard something that differs from your opinion about a band and blindly started making accusations... isnt that what fanboys do? xxx
"It's more gratifying to be able to survive even if it's at a pretty low-level doing this than it is to slave away working an 8-hour a day crap job *like you are*" Love how he slips that in.
@pisswizard my point was that you can't say something when you have no evidence to back it up.... call him a wanker but you have no evidence to say hes ignorant and the point hes making is that in his opinion rock an roll has always been about being contravertial...and the 2 bands he listed are far from that...so id say he had quite a valid point of corse hes going to use aus bands if hes in aus...in the same sense hed use german bands if he was in germany... noone is asking you to like him
@pisswizard I see the irony in your comments, obviously this has hurt you deeply, spiritually, mentally and has cost you loss of sleep, possibly work as well but anyway, how are you not a hero worshipping person? Would you have preferred him mentioning those bands in another country? Why are you even here? Do you know anything whatsoever? This would be kind of you, I need a good laugh, though your comments are humorous.
robgeepoetry the interviewer wasn't phrasing his questions well and jello seems offended. he asked something like "but shouldn't you be getting fun out of it?" the interviewer was a jerk. and keep in mind this is edited as well so who knows what else he asked.
rip DH!😢 such a talented drummer
Damn, DK went high octane when DH joined the band. That dude absolutely ripped on the drums.
One of my biggest drumming influences when I was young, along with Ted
DK did not invent punk, but they gave it a brain.
Trips They were a completely fabricated joke of a band that only existed to give exposure to Malcolm McLaren’s clothing store.
Yeah, none of you people ever heard of The fucking Clash?! Get your head out of your asses so you can think and hear. For fuck's sake!
DK, Bad Religion, TheClash - yeah man ✅
@Trips Ah..... The fucking no.... Fabricated by Mclaren.....

"Too drunk"? That's not the full title.

I could be wrong, but I think the single was released in the UK as "Too Drunk".
I bet he didn't want to say fuck
those pricks censured it, what can u expect from them lol
Isn't it called Too Drunk To Funk!
We need more Biafra-flavored Jello in our world.

Man I would have loved to see DK's live. I was a bit young in 1983 unfortunately.
Still one of my fave bands by a long way.
D.H Peligro looks so fucking sick here, great fucking drummer

I love jello's voice!!!
Jello actually let Klaus and Ray say something?
When 'pop punk' meant the Dickies or the Crowd. Not sum41
I wish i had been alive and able to go to one of their shows. I was born in 1987.
my band supported them at Valleys in brisbane and it was the highlight of a miserable life.yeh you missed a good one.
Thanks for sharing this!!
"Men against work". lol! Good one
I just got jellos shirt lol he's in Australia
That guy was a force of nature
Was? He is still alive. More like Gandalf these days and less like Gimli but certainly still a force of nature.

And so insues the age old youtube debate over what punk is. Reminds me of that old song "What is Hip" by Tower of Power..
Jello has some sweet shades!
"The band rouses apathy... because there are people who couldn't care less about their music..."
that is not a logical sentence, son.
By Christ I wish I could have seen them live, unfortunately it looks like that is never going to happen.
From the thumbnail I was expecting Sylvester Stallone. I was positively surprised to see people with brains in front of the camera.
