The funny part is i do know what I'm doing. I installed insulation and drywall on all the walls in the basement and put down vapor barriers and carpet with carpet insulation and this whole time I've just been finding the stud. I haven't needed the plastic drywall anchor. I already knew about wallering or a hole if the bit is too small. All the hammers get lost all the time so I've use a bunch of random things as hammers lol im a handy woman

I’m a single mom with a house and seriously appreciate this! When you picked up the hammer, I mentally put it on my list of things to purchase. It’s like you read my mind and gave us the option of the other end of a screwdriver! Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️ Will more than likely still pick up a hammer because it’s probably something I should keep on hand haha
You are so welcome! So glad I can help you get the job done. If you do pick up a hammer you can usually find them at Walmart for $5‐$7. There will be regular size and smaller head ones (same handle length). I have both but find myself reaching for the smaller head for installing drywall anchors, easier to hold and swing for me. At the store you can pick them up and see which one feels most comfortable to you to help make your choice. Best of luck! And keep making that house a home!
ive been putting off my project that uses wall anchors and this has given me the confidence to finally get started. looks much easier than i thought! thank you so much! EDIT: i did it!! thank you so much for your advice!! the drill bits i had were either too small or too big and knowing that i could bore out the hole with a smaller drill bit saved me from so much frustration. thank you so so much for giving me the confidence to finally complete this project ive been putting off for 6 months!
@bdluejay That is so wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing. That makes me so happy to hear it gave you the confidence to do it!! Great job on tackling it and getting it done! 🙂
Simple and to the point. I’m not in the least bit mechanically inclined, and putting holes in the walls is intimidating because with my luck, I just know I’m gonna demolish the house. Thank you for explaining this in a ‘language’ I can actually understand.
Thank you! This was just what I needed to identify the right drill bit and, more importantly, see how to install the drywall anchor. Looks easy-peasy! 🙂
What a great video. You explained in a patient and non-intimidating manner. Some of us were never taught these things and dont always have the right tools to start with. Great job, thank you!
Thanks so much for your simple, easy to follow instructions, along with potential problems! I recently bought a home that was built in 1939. I just subscribed to your channel in case I need to watch any of your other videos. I really appreciate your videos!! God bless.
Thank you so much! So simple, love the workarounds for the non pros. Just what I needed to get over my fear of ruining the wall with un-necessarily large gaping holes.

This is the only video I could find that explained EXACTLY what I needed to know! Thanks so much! Can’t wait to tackle my shelves, but need to go buy a drill bit 😂
A whole set of Ryobi bits was barely 15-20 bucks. Cheaper per bit than piecemeal and probably grabbing the wrong size... Home Depot had sets of Ryobi for 100 for like a Sawzall (yeah, I heard that's a Milwaukee tool trademark, but no matter), drill and impact driver w a bag, 2 batteries (big and small), a blade for the saw and a light. 100.00. Not the same as Dewalt, but who has 100 bucks for JUST a drill (albeit a pro-grade one...)? Also, spray paint all your nice tools BRIGHT, NEON pink. Trust me on this. Even decent people tend to "accidentally" grab your tools. But I GUARANTEE YOU, they will NEVER walk off w a BRIGHT PINK one. Avoid Aldi tools, unless you like the bits breaking and nearly taking your thumb w it (it was gross). Their stuff is ONLY for real light work. You'll also want an N97 mask (buildings before 1978 are full of lead paint) and safety glasses. The bit can break or you can wind up w plaster bits everywhere. It kinda sucks to fish paint chips out of your eyes. Lol. Hint: lick your finger so it sticks. I thought I was clear of that happening. I was mistaken. You'll be happiest with very nice tools, but Ryobi isn't bad for most people. HD has open box sets on the end caps of the aisles. Suggested next purchases: Milwaukee (it's an UGLY red) tape measure w a finger safety. Then you don't have to worry about pinching it on retracting, like you would on your dad's very old Craftsman one. They make ones w huge numbers. Think ahead (when you're older and your eyes change--way sooner than you think: late 30s-40s), or low light. Digital one is great, too. Cheap 10.00 head band light. Omfg. This is the GREATEST ten bucks ever! You can use it for a closet light. Or your car. Or anything. Mine came w 2 cheap flashlights. They'll also blind tf out of anyone bothering you (always be prepared). Menard's in the cheap junk aisle by the door. Dewalt tool set where the bits go in the handle. You have to be careful opening it, but in general it was a great 20 bucks. Craftsman socket set. Allen wrenches, both metric and American Standard. Hammer, both bigger and small. Tiny screwdriver set (think eyeglasses and such, also removes small battery covers). Flat/box wrench set. This is great when you need to remove your car battery. A socket won't remove the battery strap (bolts are too long). Knowing how to charge your own battery in the garage or jump it will save hundreds of dollars, easy. Plug red to red, black to the nearby bolt in there (not to the black/negative terminal, to the bolt is safer), THEN plug into the wall at 50 amps. 100 is for a jump. Less won't hurt, just takes longer. Might be 3 hrs, might be more like 8. Should shut off on its own. Don't skimp on this. Mine was about 100.00. Knowing how to replace a battery if it doesn't start after that is worth 100 bucks by ITSELF. That's what they charge now. Especially if you're female (assumed stupid, of course). Takes 2 minutes, btw. Be sure to plug the vent hose in too, and have water and rags in case you touch ANYTHING. Battery acid likes to wait awhile to burn. Lol. Only buy Interstate batteries. I don't know about Die Hard, as Sears is gone. But I'll go for Interstate any day. Don't buy Duracell under ANY circumstances. It's a waste of $$ and won't start when it's cold (wait'll it warms up a little; it might start then). They admitted it's their name sold to some moron in China. Duracell battery is GARBAGE. I fought them for months to get a WARRANTY refund, too. 2 years and they wanted to give me another of THAT battery after a big one died in SIX MONTHS. Driven 35 years. Never HEARD of one dying in August, either. I fought them for a CASH refund, so I could go buy an Interstate, like I SHOULD have to begin with! And I said that 5x... Good razor blades and a scraper (city sticker removals, gently lay the blade flat to the glass and push forward. It won't scratch.) You always want fresh blades. If you miss, you won't feel it and won't have to worry about lockjaw (over an old one, which will work, unless you miss, then...) Vice grips in a few sizes are also great in a pinch. Needle nose pliers w a cutter. And a hemostat. Good for small things and grabbing the CD out of the player when it's stuck (CD/.wavs are way better than MP3S). Wire strippers. For wiring up speakers or rewiring a lamp... Beware of anything in old houses. Could be asbestos. It was in wall board. Pipe insulation. Flooring to 1985...extremely nasty. Don't touch it. It's bad stuff. Encapsulation. Only if needed. It's fine if it's not coming apart, tho. And a great box cutter. The heavy Milwaukee one. Not the stupid little things.
Thank you for showing us this simple process. I use to do all this before I got married, afterwards I let my husband do it because it made me happy that he felt he was providing for me by doing all the "heavy work" & I actually didn't mind sitting back & just watching him do it all. Thanks ALso, how do I know what my wall is made of? I can tell if it's obviously drywall.. but this wall..i'm not quite sure.. it's a bathroom wall....Thanks
My takeaway… do NOT try to go next drill bit size up. Then you risk the screw not tightening.
“Grab a Hammer”
