Can someone build a fuel tank with quick releases? You wouldn’t have to wait for a tank to fill if you have a system for quickly swapping in a full one.
Not sure why you would do that....that would require fuel planning to have the tanks ready and people to help do the swap. If that type of thing were part of the challenge, you could just fuel them with the specialized rapid refueling setups like NASCAR or other race cars.
@@ian3580 true, but that might require even more modification. I really don’t know how that is setup, but I think there is still opportunity in the fueling portion of the run
Steve, your voice is great do so audiobook or narrator work. Its very calming, great work on your truck!
Awe, thank you!
I’d love to see one in a “family truckster” with luggage and grandma shaped fuel cells on the roof and a leash tied to the bumper 😂
Congratulations!!
This is the best GMC commercial
these gms are ridiculous trucks. had a 2000 ext. in highschool i put in a pond water above motor above door speakers flooooded!!!. pullled plugs turned the motor over pumped out the water out put the plugs back she fired right up drove 30 mins home. blew a rear 10 miles from the hous eno phone drove her ass back in 4wd hahaha they dont care what you doo theyll keep going
Diesel, two pumps at every truck stop can put 220+ gallons in less than 5 minutes. Someone in the cannonball community sleeping on this ?
If it’s 4 wheel drive you could save significant weight by getting rid of the transfer case. Without too much trouble you should be able to put 2020 or newer front brakes on the truck to improve stopping.
Southern truck with Z60 = 2WD. But the parasitic drag from the front CVs and tcase are more of a concern than the weight.
Wow, this is awesome, congrats! I’ve always wanted to do a run in my truck!
You should! It’s a blast!
@@CannonballGMC Oh wow! Thanks for the response and encouragement! I’ve met Ed several times at cars and coffee too. Maybe someday we can get something together and going for me!
I thought he was Jared from the questionable garage at first. Awesome story!
Reminds me of the Polish Racing Association of America...
My best long drive, is Dodge City ks, to Baltimore md, 1449 miles in 21:30 hours.
100% needed hazmat plaques😂
This is a great idea! Cant wait to see a diesel truck one go for it.... have the ability to average over 100 mph and carry the fuel!
Mischief Represent!!
Is that Beassler welding, the one in central Illinois??
I am in San Diego-- the west bound times should be better as you typically get better fuel economy heading eastbound (there's nearly always a head wind going west bound in the desert southwest). I want to do the coast to coast with my Silverado. What was his average speed for the CtoC?
I had to stop for that power line too. Weirdest traffic jam ever.
Imagine a run again with 4 men and helping support across many states?
Pretty sure it’s gonna be close to covid run
ok i am kinda new to the cannonball world and in another a video i literally left the exact message "someone should do this in a pick up with a huge tank" lolol i feel called out
nothing worse than having lifter failure while trying to do this
I am curious if he added any coolers. I gotta think the trans, oil, and rear diff fluid temps need it at sustained speeds like that.
Truck go vroom
Such an accomplishment! I can’t even go past 110k without needing a new trans and needing a new trans every 10k after that 😂
I’ve had GM trucks before and I’ve NEVER heard of the Z60 package. Pretty cool
Keep the cannonball content coming Ed , this is great !
@3:10 i recognize that car show...... live in the same area
Great story!
Big question, how do you take care of bodily functions on a long trip?
Vacuum pump wired up to a 12v toggle switch and a hatch for solid objects 😂😂😂
@@sirseven3best thing I’ve heard all day
Google “external racing catheter” from Rugged Radios!
@@CannonballGMC Bingo.
Congratulations on your records. I hope you can have a little less bad luck next time.
He stopped in east peoria! My home town!
In the first run from Florida to San Diego, did he have to stop to fuel up at all? I’m a little confused. He said, “throw gas in the truck” right after he was talking about ventilation issues. Can someone clarify for me? Thanks!
I’m guessing the fuel cell in the bed was supposed to automatically refill the OE tank, but due to ventilation issues the tank would stop filling automatically, so he’d have to stop and do it manually
A pump in the tank transfers gas to the factory tank. Negative pressure would cavitate the pump. Had to stop and fill the factory tank and vent the big tank about 4 times.
