  • Flash Mask Tutorial: Part 1 - SOLIDWORKS. Hey there SOLIDWORKS Community! We’re excited to bring you this 3-part series where we are honoring one of the founding members of the Justice League of America, The Flash, by modeling his iconic mask in SOLIDWORKS. The Flash mask has a unique, organic form so we are going to model it around some reference images using mostly surface features.
    Let’s start running through Part 1 of this series where we’ll use the Boundary Surface tool to model the initial outer surfaces of the mask.

    This is a good tutorial overall but I'm really strugling with the chin and neck shapes. The parts left out by the time skip are key to the shape of the mask and I keep getting error messages for tangency and curvatures. Do you have any tips for less advaced users?

    This is really hard for beginner I can say it took me years to figure out how to make such a smooth surface. Today I can design anything I want for both solid and surface. I use this video as a challenge for me, thank you.

    Feels like a tutorial made half-heartedly. Avoids explaining the tricky parts. I expected a better, more detailed tutorial.

    I would use “trim surface” instead of “split” for 2 reasons.
    1, it fits surface modeling mind set;
    2, it is in surface ribbon, while split is several clicks away;
    Solidworks being great at solid modeling, is lacking at surface modeling.

      I study Industrial/Product Design here in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and we feel the same way at the university. Unfortunately Solidworks is really lacking at it.

    Terrible tutorial. This should have been an hour-long tutorial. Skipping around and not showing some key steps.

    Am a little new to Solidworks, but how do you scale something once you've defined some dimensions?
    I know with Autocad, you just scale and set a reference, but with Solidworks it just seems to make you have to remake the surfaces to whatever scale you want.
