I always did them in my driveway with ramps and I'd always rent a transmission jack to put it back in. Having a huge warehouse with lifts, air, and all the tools would have made life so much easier and congrats for having all the cool toys to do it. @@SpeCifiC0507 already replaced, the car is paid for years ago and sits until I fix it or scrap it. Manual swap isn't practical, especially on something with such a low value. If I fixed it, I have no plans on keeping it.
But just in case you don't think I know about these transmissions. One of the points of failure on these was actually the cooler shown in the video. It's not efficient enough to cool the high pressure and high temperature CVT. There's a service bulletin about this, the dealer actually is supposed to be checking the glycol in the coolant with a refractometer because if it goes over 55% glycol, the bulletin warns that the transmission will be damaged. There's an updated cooler available at still transfers heat with the engine coolant but also has inlet outlet that allows you to install a second transmission cooler. When Nissan fixes these, this is their fix.

Who's gearbox is more likely to fail first , neighbour A with his 4 speed auto or neighbour B with his CVT ?
Is comparing a 4 speed auto with a CVT a bit like comparing the gears on a modern day road cycle with a 28 speed derailleur gears that are great but need a fair bit of attention compared to the old fashioned hub sturmey-archer gears ? Sure one is so much more efficient but the other needs far less maintenance .

GM CVTs are trash too especially in the Saturns. The Saturn CVT was made by FIAT. The CVT Malibus are trash too. Ford CVTs in the 500 and Freestyle are junk too. When a Saturn CVT goes out, they put either a traditional automatic or a manual transmission. The Ford CVTs are made by ZF which is similar to the Audi CVT transmissions (Multitronic) and they are junk too.

@@watchjaredwork1487 It’s called preventative maintenance. I don’t know a single mechanic that wouldn’t take the few minutes to just change the seal. If it isn’t leaking it’s only a matter of time before it does being a used car. And that’s exactly why you have to be careful who you buy a car from.

JR , Nissan has been using a one piece rear main seal design that only needs removing the flex plate and the ring of bolts around the seal retainer plate- on just about everything from the L series to SOHC V6 I am sure. But your Cube is an automatic and usually those are kinder on the rear main seal. FR
