Congrats on learning how to play Heart of Gold by Neil YOung on harmonica. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Rock on,

That was so fun. I’m not even done yet but I had to tell you that! I’m 53 and I lost my daughter, so I need happiness again. My dad bought me a guitar. Then he bought me a harmonica. And tambourines. And a drum kit for my grandson. Music has always healed me. This will never go away, but I will grieve her properly. It’s the last thing I can ever do for her. And I am so grateful for the lesson.
If it’s true , all my heart to you.
@@ikust007Thank you. That’s very sweet.
I'm so sorry for your loss. The very worst thing that can happen to a human being in my opinion. May God bless and comfort you my friend. 🙏🏼
My condolences to you. I’m 65 and my wife passed away 18 months ago. Learning guitar and harmonica has been a big help in getting through tough days. I’m thankful for videos like this as well.
Bless you my friend
Xx
I’ve always owned a harmonica and I’m only now trying to learn to play properly. I got my bend in a day! I love playing so much! Thank you for making these videos they’re super helpful ❤️❤️❤️
Good for you for committing to it! I'm glad the vids are helping. I you get really serious about wanting to grow quickly, you might consider my Beginner to Boss course: www.harmonica.com/lessons/
Otherwise, lotsa free stuff! 👍🏼
Aloha,
Luke
10000% recommend Luke's beginners course. I am only a dipped toe into it so far and already I can keep up with this video thanks to his techniques (I was a level 0 beginner before I started) Great job Luke
Aww, thanks so much Wade! Congrats on your progress. So glad it's all working for you. ROCK ON, MY MAN!!!! 👊🏼
Only just found you, as a 73 year old and an average guitarist I can comfortably play the guitar part. What I've always wanted is to play the harmonica part with it, after spending an hour on your tuition I'm fairly positive I can crack this at last. Thanks for making an old man's dream a possibility. I have subscribed.
Awesome! You got this! 👊🏼
Hello, I am 66 years old and I just started playing mondharmonica a month ago. This is so much fun this lessons with you Luke, you are a great theatcher. I can not understand that I waited so long for playing this instrument! I always loved hearing this my whole lifetime! Thank you Luke. Greetings from Belgium!
Awesome Eddy! Thanks for the note. Aloha from Hawaii.
You're just awesome 😎👍! I bought your course, have not actually started using it because I'm a darned procrastinator but instead I never fail to tune into your spontaneous tutorials like this one! Thank You Bud!
Right on John. I hope you love the course man. Keep me posted...
Luke, I've been cross-harping for years but never really straight-harped, but am now getting into it. This is a huuuuuge help and well-produced. I dig your vids and have learned lots. I'll keep watchin'!
Awesome. Thanks for the note Greg.
You never cease to amaze! Every time I get keen on a certain song it appears on your channel within days :D I have been so busy with my Masters the past couple of months and have played almost no harmonica. It is time to get back to it! Rock on Luke!!!
Congrats on working on the Masters, Wade! I'm so happy the vids have serendipitously been appearing my friend. Rock on! 🤘🏼
OMG!!! This is really a very patient teacher!! And for the first time (since 6 months on and off practicing with various RUclips teachers), bending seemed like a no brainer, INCREDIBLE! I admit that I stopped in the middle because no more breath :-D I will return tomorrow, promise, cross fingers! ;-)
Aw thanks for the kind words, Axel. Glad the vids are helping!
This is a great service you are providing to us beginning harmonica players. Thank you so much for such an amazing, patient, and thoughtful lesson.
Aw thanks for the kind note, Rahul. You are most welcome my friend. Keep on rocking! 🤘🏼
Nicely done! I really enjoy your method. You're a good teacher. I have much the same issues as other older guys that wanted to learn the harmonica but couldn't figure it out. Subsequently, I have been invited to join a band, but I was warned that they wanted me to sing and play the harmonica. Singing was okay, but the harmonica has always been a challenge, but not anymore. Thanks!
Thanks for the complements, and Awesome!! Congrats!! Sounds like you might be a perfect candidate for Beginner to Boss: www.harmonica.com/lessons/
Rock on! 😎
Thank you very much for this extraordinary lesson. You are a great harmonica player and teacher. excellent pedagogical skills. Bravo! Many greetings from Barcelona.
Muchas Gracias y Aloha de Hawaii.
Thank you soo much Luke! For just being out there and doing what you do! 🔥😎👍🏻
Aw right on, my friend. My pleasure!! I really appreciate the note. Rock on! 🤘🏼
Thanks so much for making these video's. Makes learning fun and easy one song at a time😊
Cheers
Glad you like them! you're very welcome.
That I have ever seen..
This is one of the most articulate lesson styles I have ever seen.
It is the best music lesson I have ever seen.
I think this being a harmonica lesson also adds to the demonstration of how massive sounds are when you organize them even when you are limited to 10 holes x2 draw and blow...
Just having all of this arranged and demonstrated precisly is alot of work, but it is a finite amount of work also accuratly demonstrating to people who want to play but become overwhelmed at the complexity they were not expecting in the difference between listening and loving music, and making music..
This lesson and your cool style is the best demonstration of what playing music is..
Massive but doable.
Great job
First of all if I did not know the first thing about playing music
Thanks Glen! I appreciate it. Rock on my brother!
After finishing the related lesson in beginner to boss I've enjoyed being able to come here and learn the full song!
That's awesome, Steven!
👏👏👏 El mejor y más completo tutorial en harmonica de esta fantástica canción.. 👍👌👌
Muchas gracias amigo. 🙏🏼
Nice ta ta's, LOL you give an excellent lesson on this song I've played guitar and harmonica individually, now Ive got a good harmonica holder. Thanx Man
That is a great lesson! In a Neil Tribute Band in Vegas and this lesson will help me greatly!
Have fun John! So happy to help, and glad people are gonna get to hear you do it!
thanks for being so cool and down to earth with what you do
I appreciate that! 🙏🏼
what a beautiful song by neil, thank you!
Yes indeed, Danny! Glad you liked it. Aloha. 🏝
Great lesson! Also If you haven't heard Willie Nelson's cover of this song it's great, there's some great Harp playing in that one too.
Oh wow, I hadn't heard that. What a cool take on it. Thanks for turning me onto it! Micky Raphael is such a great player. I love that he approaches it here in 2nd position to switch it up.
No body teaches better than you. Thanks from my heart.🙏🥰
Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it! You're welcome. It's my pleasure. Rock on! 😎
Luke, I really enjoyed playing along, nice lesson
thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it, Patricia! My pleasure. 😁

Aw, so glad to hear it!
Thanks for your easy lessons , I'm gonna do my best ,
You can do it!
Thanks Luke, you da man, nobody does it better
Thanks for your kind words!
Thank you for the video !
If the original song chords are Em-C-D-G with a G harmonica, what chords should I play on my guitar to match my only C harmonica ? should I use a capo somewhere? I'm lost..🙏
You're very welcome! Yeah, just capo on the 5th fret and you're good to go with your C harmonica!
sensational tutorial but it would be good if you also did the backing track with the key of G on your website, for me its easier to hear as i play along as im new to harmonica
Love your teaching techniques
Thanks mate
Xxx
You're welcome. It's my pleasure. Rock on! 😎
Great lesson, i bougth a harmonica in the key g, dont know why, lucky me i love neil young, and the song heart of gold is amazing, and i search and learn the intro, and now im ready for the full song and its in the A key, sounds a litlle diferent but it will do lol
No man, you're good to go! It IS in the key of G!
I'm just curious: Why did you choose to use the C harmonica in this lesson? The lesson is fantastic! Thank you!
I love the way u teach!
Thanks Sam!
Once a person joins up to a course with luke are we able to photo copy papper work like blow draw notes numbers and print out song and lessons which wold save tapping phone to keep it alive while learning thanks for any answer
You don't need to buy the course for that. Just go here and scroll down and copy and paste the tabs into whatever word processor you use: www.harmonica.com/tabs/heart-of-gold-wlyrics-chords-by-neil-young-harmonica-tab/
Cool first time I ever had the right the right Harmonica for the song . I even got some notes right .
Congrats!
You're a great teacher and I really appreciate your videos, my friend 😎✌️
Glad to hear. Rock on! 😎
how do i know if intake or blow.
if there is no minus sign, how can I follow if it's just an ordinary chord chart that I bought in the market
Great
Thank you so much for this lesson ❤❤❤
You're welcome. It's my pleasure. Rock on! 😎
thanks Luke, really clear lesson cheers
Glad to hear it Gary! Rock on! 😎
you the man , If I learn to play it's because of your skill
Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it! You got this! 👊🏼
You are so awesome thank you!!!
Thank YOU Liz! Thanks for watching! 😎🙌🏼🎶 Keep on blowing that harp!
Man o Man this is solid!
Ha! Makes me smile. I knew SOMEONE would appreciate it being thorough, LOL. Thanks, Wade. 👊🏼
Thanks Luke
You bet, Neal! Glad you liked it.
Cool luke ,enjoyed that ,you made it seem simple ,i will try that ,will see?
Have fun Mike! 😎
Thanks bud.
I’ll be following you for sure
I appreciate it
Thank you so much for this lesson! I just have two questions:
1 - If I was going to play this song on a G harmonica, do I blow and draw on the same holes as you did on this video?
2 - I saw you telling someone that in order to play guitar along with this version you need to capo on the 5th fret, but on the beginning of the video you were just playing the regular chords and sounding great, was that because you were using a G harmonica?
Thanks in advance!
Hey Cris -
1 - Yes indeed!
2 - Yes, exactly!
solo 3 is so hard compared to solo 1 and 2... i will get it though. Really appreciate these videos!!
Cool Austin. I wouldn't worry toooo much about note for note. But always good to pay homage to the source for sure. I salute you.
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Awesome guide! I'm enjoying it a lot. Thanks Luke!
Why is the video unlisted though?
Hey Carl - Glad you like it. You're welcome. I sync the publications of these vids with my newsletters. My next one goes out next Tuesday which is when this one will be public. I'm wondering how you the heck were able to see it already?
Oh, ok great. I can see it because it is added to the playlist "beginner harmonica lessons" 🙂. That made it reachable by browsing the playlist, but not searchable on youtube.
Thank you 👍👍👍
Welcome Claudiea! 👍
i have a G harmonica and want to be able to play with other ppl and along with a backing track and things like that. Can I just use the same notes, same holes + draw/blows that you use here? Basically, can follow the vid exactly just with a G harmonica insted of a C?
Yes the tabs stay the same!! One of the great things about harmonica!
Thanks!
No problem!
드디어 나에게 잘맞는 코치를 찾은 것 같네요.
감사합니다
So glad to hear it! Happy to be part of your journey. Rock on! 😎
My new coach!
👊🏼
I would love to learn how to play the harmonica part from terry reid to be treated rite
muito bom
👊🏼
Omg...I love it
Yay! Glad to hear it. Rock on! 😎
thank you!
You're welcome Bob! Keep on rocking in the free world. 😎
What chords do you play on the guitar now that you play with a c harmonica instead of a g?
C, Am, and F
What do you do to make a harmonica slicker so my lips slide on it smoother?
Lip balm is fine. Just give her a wipe down when you're done.
If one has a good C harmonica, what would be the next best key to get?
You might like to try a lower tuned harmonica like key of A or key of G. (G would let you play along with Neil on this song, so if you love this song, that might be the one!)
Just curious...Going to try this one in a local open mic. How can I find the backing track (used here) that would be without the harmonica parts that I would fill in when performing with my harp? Need a link if available to this backing track so the tempo is the same when practicing. This was wonderful to learn from Luke! Thanks.
Hey Dr. Rick. Sorry fot the delay. Just uploaded for ya!

@@Harmonicacom thanks for that backing track! which of the three are the speed that neil plays it? Is it the medium one? Thanks!

Hey Dr. Rick - uploaded the jam tracks for you. Thought I'd sent you the link, sorry. Here it s: on.soundcloud.com/c8vcP
@@Harmonicacom thank you Luke! Do you have one that is the full song uninterrupted?. No worries if not! So grateful for what you shared already.
Thank uoy!!!
You're welcome!
goood stuff
I play a chromatic 12 hole c-maj harmonica where 4blow and 5blow are identical which means that you start with 567 and not with 456... means you have to raise all numbers greater than or equal to 4 one number. The double stop 45 become s 56 but 34 stays 34.
Anton, my man, consider buying a 10-hole diatonic! You can get an East Top 008k for $20 if you're on a budget.
Even if chromatic is your main axe, be nice to have a diatonic for stuff like this!

Do you have some problems with Canadians ? hahahaha
You know, I’ve never seen anyone do it better ! Continue your great teaching !! I took a course with face-to-face sessions and I've never been able to play well. And now, I'm very surprised of the way you teach... It's great !!!
🇨🇦🤣 Thanks for the kind words, Mike. I'm glad you didn't quit. Never quit, eh!!! Sounds like you might be a good candidate for my Beginner to Boss course? www.harmonica.com/lessons/
Yeah, I'm already interested but I wait to take the course after Christmas.👍@@Harmonicacom
Is there anyway you could add" he ain't heavy , he's my brother , just the small riff , I might find it easier to learn , I'm having trouble with heart of gold . Thanks ,LUKE
Cool Luke
👊🏼
❤❤
👍👍👍
I wish I could play this song..!!
You can do it! Don't give up!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤️
❤️💛💚
With bending, how am i meant to blow and draw in one word?
Cannot blow and draw on the same time. But you can draw 5 and 6 at the same time and bend them which would be notated like this: -56'
Does that help?
@Harmonicacom hmmm I'll give it a try after work, thanks for the tip!
if i use harmonica c, does the guitar chord change too?
and if it changes, is it ok to use the original chords?
YES, guitar chords change!
Use a capo on the 5th fret, play the same chords (key of G) and you'll be in business with the C harmonica. 👌🏼
okay, thank you so much!
Bending challenging, but I will get it
Yes you will Patrick! You got this! 👊🏼
thanks for the c harp choice. i ain't got g yet. just a c harp special 20 and every natural minor baby fat key.
Oh wow that's so sick I didn't realize Baby Fats come in minor keys. Love it bro. 👊🏼
👌😎👍👍👍
I keep blowing more then one note :( how can I improve I’m so use to guitar
More than one note is fine at the beginning. ruclips.net/video/v4mDMJzsnoU/видео.html

The orange arrow is slightly off and it annoys me so much. Apart from that, great video thanks!
You're welcome. It's my pleasure. Rock on! 😎
You are psychic. Exactly when my draw 6 wouldn’t bend, I was about to pause and adjust the gap on my harmonica. Then you suggest I bend it after drawing…
🤣
awesome man!!!! love that shirt!!!!!.
Thanks, Jimmy!!
This is a bit embarrassing, but the first time somebody told me that I needed to bend my harmonica, I swore at them and said, "This thing is made out of metal, you idiot!"
🤣
A quick question: I am playing on an A key harmonica. How do the key numbers change in this case?
Number don't change, just won't sound good playing along with me!
why my -34 sounds not the right tone
Try saying "dwah"
It’s in G
Correct. Same tabs on a G harmonica to play along with the original recording.
why not a in G
Most beginners start with C and don't own a G, so just trying to help out those folk.
why do you never play the whole song to train on? Theres nowhere a place I can train the whole song in C
I don't think it's really important to be able to play all 3 solo's note for note. I included them all figuring, since I was making the video, might as well have it be comprehensive, but I think learning one of them is good enough to give you the vibe of how to play this type of solo, if that makes sense?
@@Harmonicacom Sory for my tone there I was kinda frustrated but I made it through the song thanks to your tutorial, thank you so much for the free knowlege :) its my first song
Why not play it like Neil i. The G harp😢😢😢
Most people don't own a G harp. Tabs are the same.
@@Harmonicacom Ok
Loving the videos. Trying to learn single notes better it’s hard with the rack for the guitar
Yeah for sure! The rack is not the place to first learn single notes!!! EVERYTHING is harder on the rack. 👊🏼
Wow, fantastic.
You are the best Trainer ever.
Thank you.👍👍👍👍👍👍
Viele Grüße und vielen Dank
Manuel
Right on, Manuel! Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it! Rock on! 😎
