The Lizardmen, sometimes known as the "Cold Ones" or the "Children of the Gods" among themselves, are an ancient, savage, and highly intelligent race of cold-blooded, reptilian humanoids that are the first and oldest civilisation of the Known World. Long before the rise of Men, Elves or Dwarfs, the empire of the Lizardmen ruled supreme. Alien, enigmatic, and without mercy, the Lizardmen were there when it all began and will be there when the mortal world draws its last, dying breath, never tiring nor relenting until order is finally restored to this uncaring, chaotic world. Such is what they were made to do, for they are the ancient servants and first creations of the Old Ones, the one, true protectors and shapers of the Known World.

I dont think theyll see this, but i want to give my 2 cents for this podcast which im very much interested in.
I belive is CRUCIAL that, better sooner than later they make an episode about magic. Warhammer Fantasy is DEFINED by magic and its interactions, it shapes the world, the people who live in it and every component of this setting.
And for all future episodes to be better understood, defining what magic is, its rules, and how absolutley BONKERS it is compared to 40k, the better the foundation this podcast has to build upon the rest of the lore.
Thanks for making this podcast, will love to see more.

A few mistakes.
1) some races survived the attempted purge by the Lizardmen, the most prominent of them being dragons.
2) The Great Plan was to make species capable of fighting and killing Chaos. The Lizardmen were the enforcers and the species, including humanity, were considered overall failures in leading the charge but still useful against Chaos.

Correction at around 27:20: There WAS resistance, namely by the Dragons that didn't like that the Slann and the Old Ones made the planet warmer. The Lizardmen solved this problem among other things by taming and / or magically binding creatures called DREAD SAURIANS. Imagine a Nile crocodile the size and length of a bus, if not larger. Those things are famously the reason that Dragons no longer dwell in Lustria.

Just to give context on how powerful the Slann were. In 6th edition, the actually dead Slann "Lord Kroak" was 1225 points in the tabletop.
I mean playing Lord Kroak in Fantasy would be like a Custodes player wheeling out the Emperor's undead corpse as a unit.
Although Lord Kroak might actually be stronger than the Emperor because he doesn't use any kind of life-support to remain on the mortal plane and persists as an earthbound spirit through sheer willpower. Although it's noted by the other Slann that Lord Kroak actually being dead makes communicating with him kind of difficult because he sees the world as a spirit now and doesn't think like he did when he was alive, seeing things more like omnipresent beings like the Chaos Gods do rather than a individual spirit stuck staring out of his mummified eye-sockets.
Considering he was godly makes sense tbh
Was he good though?
@@luisroberto9416 Depending on edition, the answer was always somewhere between "yes" and a look of terror because he had just solo-ed the army of the person you asked. He was crazy with his unique spell and rules.
To put this into further context, a "standard" fantasy army was 2000 points just like the "standard" 40k list was 1500. So 1 model was more than half your army.

you forgot to mention they have literal dinosaurs in their roster
I forget his name, but I remember in the old Lizardmen codex there was a named character version of their dinosaur riders.
TBH, the Lizardmen being mortal enemies of Chaos and the Skavern makes them pretty based. They don't mind the other races because their gods had a plan and place for them, but if they worship Chaos, watch out! Plus, riding dinosaurs is inherently cooler than most other creatures.
The Lizardmen are the Old One's cleansing force, used to wipe the slate clean for them to make the other races.
Dwarfs are resistant to magic, but equally resistant to change, and reproduce incredibly slowly, as well as physically unable to use magic otherwise it petrifies them
The elves are incredibly adept magic users, and incredibly long lived, but equally as vain, with a tendency towards isolation and supremacy
Humanity was the third draft. They reproduce quickly, are highly adaptable, have the capacity for magic and can go beyond their limits far more than elves or dwarfs. Unfortunately, these came at the cost of a short lifespan and being easily corrupted by chaos.
Their fourth draft was the Ogres. Resistant to magic (though not to the same degree as the dwarfs), yet still capable of wielding it. They are INCREDIBLY strong, and their biology of all their vital organs being in one place makes them a bastard and a half to kill. Unfortunately, the Great Cataclysm came, and the Ogres were left half-formed leaving them with an intense hunger, and somewhat limited intelligence. It wasn't helped when The Great Maw was formed, and multiplied every Ogre's hunger a hundred fold.
It's like that, were it not for the Cataclysm, the Old Ones would have used the Fantasy world as a testing ground for new species, before mass-producing them for the War in Heaven
36:45 it is also implied that this is about the same time the War in Heaven happened in the 40k Universe, so the Old Ones had to abandon all other universes they were involved with to try to deal with the robot-skeletons murdering them
At least, back when the two Warhammer universes were explicitly connected.
Now, ancient aliens building the (Mayan) pyramids is just an isolated piece of Warhammer Fantasy canon. Funny how stuff shakes out.
@@RougeMephilesClone current lore is still that its the same Old Ones. Fantasy and 40k are separate universes connected by the same Warp. Actually there are more than two universes connectected to the Warp, as chaos went on to destroy multiple other universes after the end times before reaching the new AoS universe.
@@RougeMephilesClone the connectivity between 40k and Fantasy has gone through several eras.
Originally Fantasy was a planet completely surrounded by Warp Storms in the same universe as 40k.
Then they were completely unrelated with no connection.
Finally for the past decade or so, the GW stance is they are separate universes, but share a single Warp. Thus you have multiple 40K stuff showing up in the End Times like the Skaven accidentally calling the Eldar on an Old One device they found, or Kaldor Draigo showing up amd saving some elves who attempted to break into Nurgle's garden. Or in AoS when a bunch of elf souls were freed from Slaanesh, a couple of the souls were notedas beinh super wierd and alien.
@@thewerdna Does that mean if I am a human from Warhammer fantasy and I die and go to a chaos god I would see people from the 40k universe such as chaos space marines?
@@sinsnowthe1450 possibly. But the gods of fantasy/AoS have been successful in providing an different afterlife to their worshipers besides "be consumed in the warp"
So this would likely only happen to chaos worshippers, and even then im AoS Nagash may still get them

Petition for the next episode to be on the Norsca. The idea of an entire society built around the worship of Chaos sounds interesting. We often hear about people being corrupted or forced to serve by various means. But the Norsca are born into it. They live, breathe, kill, fuck, and die for Chaos.
They aren't all involved with chaos, some times don't like them, some tribes just worship them as different gods, not all of them wanna destroy everything.
Lizardmen used to be all over the planet, but when Chaos showed up, they got beaten back to Lustria and the Southlands, and since those places are death worlds in and of themselves, they managed to defend it better and keep it. After chaos was beaten, they stayed there because thats where the last of the spawning pools (no eggs yall, only pools) and temple cities are. They had recently constructed a new one, first time in literal millennia, in Albion, where england would be on our maps.
And Be'lakor began using it to try to usurp the everchosen by the time of the end times
Im pretty sure they are in Fantasy Africa aswell
@@KingJunta-n2n they are! that's the southlands, which unfortunately went decades without any real development
@@joemiller361 yeah from what i remember their is quite alot of them there too, like half a dozen cities or so and they may have "catachaned" the southlands also, alot of potentially good stuff there lorewise lol best we'll get for them is probably a total war expansion in 10 years knowing GW.
@@KingJunta-n2n yep, but they're lacking on Slann, so alot of their saurus have gone a bit feral. Their skinks have taken up the warrior position mostly, except for the temple guard. Plus there's supposed to be human cultures there as well, hopefully they both get the Cathay treatment
So fun fact about the Slann; they're actually afraid of touching the ground.
Basically, there is a small amount of Chaos corruption flowing through the Geomantic Web, and the Slann are so afraid of even the smallest amount of Chaos influence getting to them that they refuse to ever touch the ground and levitate constantly, and they're also hesitant to fuck with the Geomantic Web in any significant way without a LOT of preparation, even by their standards.
"So once Slanns are dead, that's it?"
Yeah.... unless you're Kroaq, who continue to fight even beyond death as a mummified undead. And in AoS, he's no longer a mummy, he just resurrected as simple as that XD

Ive always heard it is supposed to be as if its "10 in 1". Theres also Tiktaq'to, tik-tak-toe.

Small addition based on what I remember (so please keep in mind I could be mistaken), but during the Pestilence War, I believe a new breed of Skink started spawning, the Red-Crested Skinks, who were, indeed, immune to the Skaven plagues .
Around 01:33:00: Lorewise there is only really one Slann that's particularly war-like and takes to the field of battle, that being Lord Mazdamundi of the second generation. Big orange toad that craves tendies whom you can play in Total War. He's probably the most active of all-remaining Slann and the most powerful if you don't count Lord Kroak's mummified frog legs.

Some notes on Tehenuhuain
A: Boy is the first Red Crested skink, meaning he is taller, more muscular, and has a lot deeper emotions than regular skinks, emotions he uses to hate skaven and give fire speeches.
B: He is the guy that found the tablet of Sotek and instantly realized. "HEY, IM IN THIS ONE!" and just rolled with it.
C: He managed to get other Lizardmen special characters involved. He got Kroq-Gar, who wields a spear once used by an old one, to sacrifice about a thousand skaven chieftans with it. He also helped Nakai the Wanderer kill a giant mutant rat ogre who no other lizard could even approach.
D: That was no itty bitty creek they filled with blood, that was Fantasy's version of the AMAZON RIVER. Thats lots of dead skaven.
He's everything Lorgar wanted to be and more
I just love how energetic DK's narration and character voices are 😄
Should try to get "Loremaster of Sotek" as a guest for these episodes, especially for lizardmen :D
Also the names for named lizardmen are just so stupid, please check some of them out you will have a great time!
There is one bad ass skink that is kinda the "Doomguy"
fun fact at 1:05:11 the story is even better. I'm pretty sure some of the high elves had to steal a boat to get to lustria, because they wanted to see what was down there. After a few days of wandering the hellscape they are picked up by some skinks. The skinks, not knowing what to do decide to start a sort of celebration with rituals and everything before bringing them to the Slaan. Now Slaan spend about 90% of the time communicating psychically, so even on a good day its hard for skinks to tell exactly what they are saying. After a council of skinks argue back and forth, the oldest skink there hops down to deliver the translations.
"They should Not be here."
Now the high elves are fine, right up until the instant one of them decides to pull his sword out just in case. The instant those manicured elven hands touch the sword, about a hundred temple guard rush them like the quarterback scene from now you see me. One elf makes it out of lustria alive.
Kroak was a named character in the first lizardman codex. He had the same statline as a slann mage lord, except he couldn't cast spells and had a better save. He had some cool magic items, standard that was a short-range battle cannon. Death. Ask meant he could o ly be hit in hand to hand on a 6, his weapon turned off magic swords used against him, he could dispel spells against him on a 4+,and if he did it hit the caster. And undead in base contact took double damage.
The lizardmen have some amazing named characters too, Oxyotl, Gor-rok, Kroq-gar and my personal favourite Nakai
NAKAI MY BOYYYYYYY
To clarify. Its not true the original races all died out. The Lizardmen dealt with are the Dragons (which the old ones allowed to live), the Giants, the Sky Giants, the Dragon Ogres, and several dark races (Fimir) that continued to exist long after the war. Some races were wiped out and we have no record of them.
Remember that alot of fantasy is connected, and especially with total war in the mix. We now have lore on cathay and kislev in detail now.
Allowed is a bit pushing it from what I remember most of the dragons hated the climate change and decided they are gonna wait until it got to an ice age again.
Kislev had lore before, it wasn’t very extensive but it wasn’t like Cathay.
Nothing like walking through the Amazon with your friends before seeing one of them get eaten by a giant T-Rex as three more get pounced on by Skinks and the company next to you gets glassed by a solar beam from the sky.
Ah, Lustria is such a beautiful place with such pleasant locals.
The real question is, do you think their inevitable Lizardwoman pinup is gonna be buxom or the more reptilianly-accurate flat chest but with extremely thunderously thick thighs to compensate?
I hope we are blessed with some liddies (Lizard Tiddies)
I hope it's like the Tyranid one they made a long time ago...
Lustria has Amazons for female representation, tho
If Adeptus Ridiculous is going to be covering topics that are key to the worldbuilding of Fantasy, then they will soon have to cover the creator of undeath, master of Necromancy, and soon to be lord of death. Such is the power of Nagash.

Definitely gonna have to come back to the Lizardmen at some point. Especially once you delve into specific characters. Oxyotl is literally Skink Doomguy and one of the few beings to have entered the Realm of Chaos and returned with a reputation as the Demons Boogyman.
god i hope they get pancreas to guest on here some day (maybe for the elf episodes since he's the elve's strongest defender)
Shy being a dwarf is just perfection and is vary based
I absolutely adore the designs for their Fantasy Sonas. Shy is absolutely one of the Dawi with their grudges. Every "little guy" bit goes in the book!
14:36 on this point maybe it’s worth it for someone on the podcast to pick up the total war warhammer games so as to provide the scale of the topic at hand more easily?
The total war models are pretty good and fairly well detailed and there’s plenty of ways to set up specific armies of say a slann, a unit of saurus, and a unit of skinks and just put them side by side.
WIth a re-sizing mod preferably, so that lords aren't needlessly taller than their same-species counterparts when they should be. I'm reminded of Rakarth's introduction to Warhammer II where he towers over Bretonnian peasants at about twice their height and it looking very silly.
*dances*
Lovin' this podcast so much morrrre! I've been wanting to listen to some lore for a while but sometime others simply don't sound excited whatsoever. Your joy brings us much needed entertainment in our lives. Thank you so much guys for all of your hours upon hours of effort, your research, and your patience. 🫡
Really hope the next time they speak about the Skaven DK is gonna bring up the Doomsphere. I just want to hear Bricky's reaction when DK tells him that the Skaven have nukes.
@@DemonTheDarkHound ah, yes, besides that, Skaven have space program and nukes, after all, how do you get rid of Nagash warpstone pyramids
Basically, they tracked down every single piece of Kroak's body and glued/tied it all back together. His spirit returned and pilots the mummified corpse, chair and all, but doesn't really communicate. He's basically a mobile nuke-machine, and his representation in the Total War games is pretty on-point there. He just floats around and nukes chaos/skaven with the "Deliverance of Itza."
It's a little shame that you guys don't have someone who is versed in fantasy (hell, I know more than DK from back when fantasy was more popular than 40k) still appreciate his effort, but "a Kirioth" would be a great add for this. This podcast was one guy teaching and the other learning, in this case, it feels like one guy did research and tries to teach, but doesn't feel the same.
The new Kroak model is his Mummy. Age of signar is a continuation, and the lizardmen are the only one that made it out 'alive', kinda.
DK! You didn’t bring up the dinosaurs! Carnosaurs were literally bred to (and did) wipe out most of the dragons on the planet
I hope one day you two cover the Chaos Dwarfs
The fact they forgot to even mention the dragons makes me giggle
Can't wait for you guys to cover Dwarfs or the Gotrik and Felix books
You better invite Lore Master Sotek for the follow-up.
Please not LoLMaster of SoyKek. I despise him and his gourd-shaped head.
This is the best first episode do premiere the new series. Lizardmen were my first faction and I’ve loved their lore and history 💙
All according to the great plan
So hype for this, I know so little about this lore compared to 40k so very excited
Dk forgot about the dinosaurs they ride
Also the fun note that all the special character mounts are named after the g1 dinobots
Fun fact: A Saurus warrior’s height usually crests between 8-10 feet while a Kroxigor is said to be in the realm of 20 feet tall.
Skink Moses: Teeny Weeny.
DK using sound effects instead of words is just peak anime.
Yea, based that the old ones in fantasy seem to be lizard/frog beings, I do assume the old ones also this way in 40k
Sorry to um actually you here, but GW was all over the place inconsistent. In some place each Old One had a wildly different appearance.
Loving the new Ridiculous series so far. Looking forward to each addition
Lizardmen are just cool, every boy's childhood dinosaur battles made ten times better and given personality.
