I noticed someone said theirs comes off with pressure washing. Is this true? Will this project not last? I really want to do this. Do you come to north Alabama?
@sheriwoodfin4929 hello! 👋 If the improper material is used, then it will come off with a power washer and not stand the test of time. The material we use is quite permanent, adds no additional maintenance to the home and will require no recoats. We do travel to Alabama on occasion and would be happy to provide you with a quote if you're interested. Send us an email to Estimates@GermanSmear.com to get started! 😄
@GH-qi1wv the process doesn't adhere to paint, unfortunately. You could get away with it if most of the paint is gone, but if many joints are clogged with paint, then it isn't a great option.
Just to get my ducks in a row: Medievel castle owners (or mid-century Germans) plastered their walls to make them nice, flat and clean. Years later plaster broke off, leaving behind some of the white pigment and exposing the bricks. So it's a ruined, unattended look of a once fine wall. And today, people pay money, REAL money, to get the same "I don't care, just leave it be" look. It kinda feels like purposely torn denim all over again...
@gof666 yes and no to your answer. There's a few different theories to the origination of the term "German Smear" but to go a little deeper, not all styles are "messy" we've done many homes that the mortar we apply to the joints is straight and uniform. Almost like a tuckpointing job but the edges of each brick is also being coated. TL;DR many styles, many preferences, to each their own.
Very informative! Thanks

Great information. Subscribed and liked. When do you plan on coming to Houston Texas? I need help with my brick.
The brick of my house is painted that now is peeling. I love to do this. But do i have to remove all the paint first?

@@GermanSmearSpecialist thanks . I guess I have to go with stucco . Thanks
Do you provide services to do a German smear on stone?
I did Mortar 2022 and I love it 😍
But when I clean my brick with pressure washer it comes off
So yes it is reversible
@erikaalaram thanks for your input, Erika. Did you, by chance, use tile mortar? Masonry mortar doesn't come off with a power washer.
