To be fair, Lakhta is relatively boring place to dive - no other buildings around, tower looks pretty much the same all the 460+ meters way down, dive takes too much time (around 15 seconds), only two climbs were safe to do with 1300mAh lipo. The coolest parts were the tower cranes dives and acrobatics around supporting constructs. Sadly, those cranes are disassembled already. One more interesting thing I noticed there - the tower is high enough to notice quad getting out of tune because of too low PIDs coefficients (maybe somebody will implement altitude sensor based PID attenuation some day?).
On safety: whole complex was under construction, it was relatively safe to fly there - normal safety rules were applied for skyscraper construction workers (helmets and so on), little 500g+ drone can't cause serious damage there. Even diving speeds were not as fast as I expect them to be - quad reaches terminal velocity in about 3-5 seconds and pretty much stops accelerating. I also used reliable TBS Crossfire connection (LQ 99% at ~700 meters) and 500mW 5.8Ghz vtx was enough for crystal clear video.

This is AWESOME! So tall you need fins or something to guide yourself down. Ever touch the building by accident? Maybe the best building dive I've seen yet. Just so extreme and from a good distance.

Low Sky 😂. I just got done explaining to a friend that works for a first responder drone contracting company why they should forget about any sort of wings or otherwise air funneling mechanisms for their applications. I was kidding with the fins but I'll drop a little secret I've been dreaming of. Activate 3D flight so you could carefully manage distance from the surface you're diving against. I've been wanting to try 3D for years. I dunno why I have bothered to flip a switch yet.
Low Sky I've discussed this with Kalyan already too. A sort of park distance control that just doesn't let you get closer than ~6" from something. It'll have the ability to hover if you drop the stick to zero unless you turn it off. Could make for some super crazy building dives.

It’s because the building is the same for most of the way down, the only interesting bits are the top and the cranes.

Mactac after first two packs I was shaking A LOT… but the wind situation was fine, video quality and rx link were quite good - all this helped to gain enough confidence in what I’m doing, so no much shaking after :)

Superb flying, amazing spot, but the final cut is dissapointing.. This is a perfect example of "too much editing" in a video. It would have been much better with longer , uninterrupted sequences of complete dives from top to bottom.
To be fair, this is the perfect example of judging by the final edit without observing how boring and problematic the whole original footage is :) The uninterrupted dive of 460+m building is just BORING and it takes so much time you can only fit a few of those dives in 3 minutes video (and it's already far too long for typical FPV video, nobody watches >2 minutes videos). Plus I've left two best uninterrupted dives (one crane dive and one building dive at the end) hoping this would be enough for short cuts haters :) Climb footage is awfully boring, acro between support constructs have is like 2 seconds of actual trick + 20 seconds of shaky (because of the wind) climbing to other support construct + 2 seconds of the actual trick... - who wanna watch those 20 seconds? Longer uncut sequences are perfect for typical acro freestyle to demonstrate the pilot skills uncut, but nobody said this applies to any kind of flight videos :) Maybe this is not my case, but I believe short can be effective, attractive and more energetic, I don't see much problem with short cuts :)
@@controlflow89 I guess it depends on your target audience. I am not an hyperactive teen with short attention span, therefore longer videos are not a problem for me. I'm a fpv quad pilot myself, but I never had the opportunity to fly around and dive very tall buildings, that is why a video with fewer edits would have been much more interesting.
@@controlflow89 The dives are great, but I agree with zaran1. Maybe the most exciting part is the culmination when you come to the bottom of the dive and they were cut short. It leaves the viewer with the taste of unfinished, if you know what I mean. Amazing skills and great taste for acro and flying. Keep you awesome job!

I agree as well, its a great video, but being a pilot as well, id love to see the full unedited dives in their entirety, if there is wind shakiness, that adds to the whole aspect of how cool it is. leave it in!

How do you maintain control when you are going down so fast? Doesn't the wind go up and down quickly on the sides of buildings?
Drone's PID controller is doing what it can to preserve drone's angular position despite any external forces being applied. So it controls basically the same way as in ordinary forward flight, except you "feel" gravity pulling you forward instead of down.
